if you want hassle free, you can opt for MSI GE60. it is true that the Y410P has faulty units in its history but i can tell you that all units have lemon. so it is really depending on luck most of the time.

in the mean time of warranty, if your laptop is still within it, request a total replacement is better a lot then sending it back to a service center for repairs.

however, i have some options for you too :

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2699
Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5)@RM2449 [2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2649

use the remaining budget to upgrade warranty to 3 years to prevent hassles and peace of mind.

Btw, I heard from many of my friends that Dell is the suckiest brand ever... Is there a reason to it?
Just wondering...
*
no reason for it and please do keep in mind branding doesnt play part in a laptop's quality build. no matter where you go and buy, there are still lemon units in the particular brand.

so thats why electronic products are guaranteed with a limited warranty time. if you want hassle free, choose the one that has the best warranty support, which goes to Dell.

AND, i have always been pursue forumers to insist on total replacement when it comes to trouble with their laptops. even it is a small problem, a big problem will appear soon if you send the laptops for repair.

So i3-3217u 1.8ghz + amd 7670m + 4gb ram is able to play dota 2 w/medium setting smoothly rite?

I tried google and youtube... just always see game test with i3-2xxxm and i3-3xxxm with 630m and 7670m above...

I noe dota 2 is not really demanding on graphics... just afraid i3-3217u is nt able to support it well as it have only 1.8ghz maximum..
*
dota 2 is not cpu intensive game, so 1.8ghz is not a problem for it. smile.gif

i would personally dont suggest touch screen models but it seems that non touch models are phased out and pretty hard to find available units, so i have no choice.

What do you mean? im newbie. msata ssd and ssd big different?
actually size small also ok.
*
mSATA SSD is a RAM like module that is inserted into the mSATA port of a particular motherboard or laptop and provide the performance of a SSD. you can call it a mini form of SATA SSD, while SSD is a normal variant that has the size of a normal laptop hard disk, which is 2.5" form factor. albeit that, the SATA port itself is different from mSATA ones.

keep in mind that mSATA is generally more expensive than normal SSDs.

dont quite get it. do you mean a laptop that has windows installed on SSD? if thats the case, they will be out of your budget.

anyway, the one that sifu TJ suggested comes with mSATA SSD installed as a caching SSD.

both is good for dota 2 as it is not a cpu intensive game.

Hmm... can't quite decide between Z500 and Satelite L40, any major difference?
*
major difference is the warranty life and processor used. the processor on the Toshiba is an ULV processor (weaker), which is used to save battery life and has 3 years warranty, compared to Lenovo's 2 years warranty.

how to know the games is cpu intensive or not?
and
i3-3217u and i5-3317u have very much difference while running dota 2?
i know that 3317u can overclocks but 3217u cannot.
*
if lets say dota 2 is very lag under single core CPU but very smooth under dual core, means it is CPU intensive and will be bottlenecked by weak processors.

for the 2 processors, no, not very much difference but the integrated graphics (Intel HD4000) has different speed.

QUOTE(heliora10 @ Sep 15 2013, 11:31 PM)
ya I know, as of now in Malaysia Sony Vaio Duo 13 is the only Full HD laptop with stylus I think, the others aren't available yet, that's why was seriously considering it.

went to Low Yat just now, Sony was promoting it in the concourse, played with it, decided against it due to 2 deal breakers: 1st is it only comes in 128GB, 2nd is I think the form factor is unwieldy, the sliding mechanism feels a bit flimsy.

checked out the other ultrabooks, none of them seems to feel really good, also 4th gen Intel processor will be coming soon so most of them will be updated soon, including Acer Aspire S7, Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13, Dell XPS 12 and Asus Zenbook (which wasn't on display sleep.gif). all of them don't have a very good trackpad (maybe a Windows problem), Sony Vaio Pro 13 has a pretty good display though.

at the end of it I think I'll just forgo touchscreen and go with a MacBook, it still feels to me the most well built and the one that gets the basics performing well (definitely the best trackpad), and man the retina display just looks stunning, comparing the display to MBA's makes me do not want to get an MBA.

think I'll prolly borrow someone's laptop to use and wait for the retina MBP to be updated and then get it.
*
you might want to wait for a refreshed surface pro. biggrin.gif
that is the hottest windows tablet out there in the market, even the RT version also done a pretty good job.

hi bro. since this is a new haswell laptop, i dont really know it very much and never had hands on experience with it. so it should take about another week to have hands on it.

Hi, I'm considering Lenovo Z400T i5-3230m 4GB ram. However i found that the touchpad is not that sensitive. Have another has the problem?
*
not sensitive in terms of the mouse speed or the touchpad feel?
normally touchpad feel is the fact that cant be fixed. mostly due to the poor surface of the touchpad causes this.

so i would normally pursue laptop users to get an external mouse (laser mouse for well funded).

1. Asus, but any unproblematic brand will do
2. About rm2k
3. For work, movies, internet, the usual, maybe gaming
4. As big as possible

Thanks guys. Just starting uni and I need smth that wont give me problems

ASUS is not problematic but the warranty support is. once your laptop is down, you will feel the pain when you send in for warranty for the 1st time. when you mentioned as big as possible, you may look for 15.6 inchers.
