Shower bi-fold doors:

I got my bi-fold doors from Vin Art in Homedec last Oct. There are 4pcs altogether @ RM380ea, with black color sand surface powder coat and laminated glass. I've waited couple of weeks since they came for measurement as I was informed that black color powder coating need more lead time as their common color running in the production is white.
All my bi-fold doors are in the same design, and i love the contemporary looks of them, matching nicely with the overall mood.

It's already colorglass-laminated actually... Not see thru unless ones stand very close to the door, there is slight shadow... Haha... It's unlikely to stand so close to the door when stripping or taking shower... Very slight shadow only noticeble when ones is opening the door when coming out. tongue.gif

Still the reflective properties are there, this is what you need to avoid.

From my previous reno experience, sometime things can't be avoided and perfection will made yourself too stress. I only see perfection when I deal with Japaneseccontractor in Tokyo, their workmanship are superb. Price wise haha can't imagine.

Since the reflective area is kinda small and they are not facing the bed, it's not a major concern... tongue.gif

True, it is indeed stressful and we shall already be expecting some imperfections anyhow throughout the renovation. Any rectification works sure take more times and hassle, so we may need to close one eye if the defects doesn't affect the functionality and it is not too obviously seen.

However as a consumer, it is our rights whether to be convinced by their given reason and accept those defects. Thorough inspection is a need after each major work. We should not afraid to voice out and point out defects as a good vendor will surely rectify it for you unless there is a valid reason why they are unable to do so.
If ones is 'malu' to voice out, then he/she has to endure the unpleasant quality for many years they live in there.... sweat.gif

One more thing, pls let your vendor or contractor know beforehand (or giving them sort of impression) that you are a bit OCD although you may look very 'nice and kind'...
If you are not, you may want to get your wife/husband to be like one. hmm.gif
For my case, yes I admit I'm in fact OCD. whistling.gif

Outdoor pre-filter can be installed later but your plumbing work must be getting ready first. You can ask your filter provider on what kind of spec and measurement for the standby paiping. For eg of mine, pls refer to post#395 in this thread.

As for the autogate wiring, yes you got to conceal the amor cable first of all before the tiling job, and also your other wiring if any for the additional lighting in the car porch area. Pls take note to mark the concealed location of your amor cable too if you are going to install a folding gate or sliding gate with track. You sure don't want to cut the cable by accident when you are cutting the tiles and flooring for the sliding track. If swing gate, no concern on the marking.

i just read thru this whole thread this morning, very informative, as i am also currently in talks with a few contractors to do my house renovation. Of course not so major as yours, cause its a new house, and mostly interior. I like your concept of the warm cozy feelings in the house, hopefully mine will turn out the same way.

but till now, still headache on which contractor to choose.... unsure.gif but at least your updated progress here tells me what to expect!!

Glad that u like this sharing. New house definitely less thing to touch. Anything you touch, money is flying away! moneyflies.gif brows.gif

Actually, mine took months for the initial stage which included doing homeworks on what do we want on aesthetic and material, most important matching those we want with the available budget. Adjustment on budget is happening from beginning till now! sweat.gif
It took me quite sometimes in sourcing contractors and getting quotations too. One contractor even took me 3 weeks (chasing after chasing) to comes up with a quotation. I won't bother his quote if not that I saw one forumer posted quite good reputation of him with reasonable price. However, his quote is not as 'cheap' as claimed but ok lar.. His delay in quotation pissed me so I ended up hiring my current contractor who did my neighbor's house.

Choosing a good contractor basically need some 'luck' too...do get a few quotations and avoid those who easily promise you that everything can be done. Avoid the far off cheapest quotation too, coz what I realized from contractor who charge not-so-cheap nor expensive are less likely to abandon the job. Reason being they have already factored in some extra little jobs that they are most probably going to cover during the renovating process....instead of asking the owner to top up each time when there happens to incur some extra job, even it's just some minor works. Nobody will do business with no profit, hence they ask for money, whereas the owner feel annoyed when keep topping up money. There comes the conflict and the tendency of abandoned works....

More random updates:-

- Bought this dust cover for the door where it can be inserted into the hole made for ground lock.
user posted image

user posted image

- door guard with chain for bedrooms.
The earlier door guard that I've bought can't be used coz the frame and door are not at same level hence the latch can't be slot in. So, I changed to this chain type instead.
user posted image

- Magnetic door stopper to avoid banging of door especially on windy days.
user posted image

- Motion sensor installed on the ceiling to control the led downlight at the entrance, so that it lights up automatically when we step in the house before we reach the light switches.
user posted image

- Power sockets located at a lower height so that it's hidden behind the tv console. An empty paip has been concealed up to the length where we gonna place our wall-mounted TV. As such, it gonna hide those ugly wires and I do not need a wood backing panel to cover the wires. I just not quite fancy those typical TV panels which can be found in most houses.
There is a master switch installed nearby (inside the DB compartment) for those sockets. The DB compartment will be hidden behind the curtain as the curtain is to be done up to the wall.

Sneak preview of bathroom and recent purchases:-

- Master bathroom
user posted image

You may think the s/s basket is ugly and so am I, but I opted for convenience as I will use this bathroom most and I don't have better place to install them given the limited space. Being a lady, I definitely have more bottles besides shampoo and shower gel. Hiak hiak hiak!!

- Instead of the following conection for the water outlet, I bought the nicer angle unions. (RM 16.50 ea)

- For my two other bathroom, I was initially wanted to save budget by using the original given shower head and its sliding bar from the instant water heater. However, the bad eyes of mine urged the devil to splurge on the budget again. So, the following is what I get from Johnson Suisse. Btw, most of my bathware, taps and accessories are from JS as it is one of the affordable brand with good finishing and those items also come with 5 years warranty.

i) sliding bar - RM101.50 ea.

ii) shower hose - RM26.50 ea
user posted image

iii) hand shower with 3 functions - RM44.50 ea

So, it adds up to RM172.50/ set
