Some updates as of 2 days ago:

One thing good about the contractor that I must admit...eventhough there are couple of overlooked mistakes happened from time to time, they have not push the responsibility away but put immediate action to rectify problem or redo...

As it is now going on with the under-coating, there are some walls especially outdoor's and the courtyard's need to do mold-removing at the first place before the basecoat. This procedure is necessary to prevent resurface of mold patches and paint-peeling in the future...
It is done with the high pressure water jet, generated from the small machine below.

Sand blasting is not recommended for removing paint in concrete surface as the dust & particle will fly everywhere and after that you will need to clear all the used sand will be another headache issue and additional cost involve for clearing and cleaning the used sand.

I bought these peranakan tiles from Terracotta in Glenmarie at rm4.70ea. These tiles are cement floor tiles and was all hand drawn...
http://www.terracotta.com.my
Before this, I nearly buy another type of peranakan tiles which I saw in many tile shops. Those are also with peranakan and victorian design but with embossed pattern and they are thiner, with different material.. Later that I found that those are actually for wall but not for floor tiling as it can't carry our body weight and will definitely break apart... The problem is most tile shop do not know this hence wouldn't be able to tell you this...so, pls take note for those who want to use similar tiles..

Chocolatewhore, I will PM you the contact once mine complete... smile.gif

Firstly... congratulations on your big day!!

Renovations are like that... it usually takes a great deal longer than many estimate. Look on the bright side... at least you don't have to rush and get a place that is just finished renovation cleaned. That is seriously some back breaking work to clean all the dusty areas.

Sub-contractors going missing is also another common thing. The electrical guy who worked on my place will never get any other projects from me or my friends because of his irresponsible behaviour. But life's like that... when it throws you lemons... you do your best to turn them into lemonade.

smile.gif

Ya...I understand that life wouldn't be turning up exactly as what we want. I'm adjusting myself to accept the fact and telling myself that I would rather want a better workmanship than a rough job results from the rushing...
I hope life could throw me some honey too...so that i can make it into some honey lemon.... smile.gif

I suppose the water jet method is a more common way?

After removing the mold patches, they did a thin layer of cement plastering to make a nice and even surface before painting the base coat...

I've bought some basic lightings lately and here's the sharing:-

I went to the offfice of a forumer (zealless) in Puchong and got some led lightings from him.
- 11W 4" LED downlights, 850 lumen @RM75ea. Bought all in colour temp 3000k accept for one which is day light 6500k for the area near dressing table. They come with 2 years warranty.

I prefer downlight in round shape instead of square because I think round lights generate better ambience...

- 6W eyeball LED spotlights, 450 lumen @RM35ea, pairing with Osram transformer @RM10 ea. However I did't get their fittings as I prefer the matt white ring instead of the glossy white ring that they offered. I thought it supposed to be in standard size to fit into all other fittings selling in the lighting shops but it seems not as I could't get a matching ones after searching high and low from a few lighting shops. Thier bulbs are obviously 1-2mm larger and coudn't be secured by the normal ring. I've rang them up and they promised to source a matching one for me by tomorrow, otherwise I would need to buy theirs...

I'm going to use those eyeballs to light up some areas like feature walls, the whole master bedroom (for the cosy ambience) and the back of my kitchen. I've learnt that there are 2 different lighting degrees for eyeball meant for different usage. 24 deg are for light effects on wall whereas 36 deg are for general lighting.

- LED Track light to be installed at my entrance foyer for the flexibility of its lighting positions and I can just add in lighting unit anytime in future without the hassle of re-wiring.
11W LED track light giving 650 lumen @RM95ea, and 2 meter track @RM38ea.

I also went to Classic Hi Light in Bandar Sri Damansara to get some other general lightings. I've actually paid a RM300 during an exhibition fair in last July to lock the promotional price as they claimed that they are the major distributor of YET Plus lightings. However, very soon after that I found the price that I paid for the YET plus PLC downlight fittings are actually more expensive by RM5.30ea compared to CIMA Lightings. (I'm comparing the same brand, same model here)... So, i've actually overpaid a total of RM58.30 for 11 sets here, with the so called exhibition promotional price! vmad.gif

Following are things I bought in Classic Hi Light:

- 2 units of 20W sensor outdoor LED spotlights @RM150ea.
Going to put one unit each at front porch and back yard.

- 20W YET Plus Outdoor spotlight, warm white, 1840 lumen, @RM98. This is for my court yard.

- 6" YET Plus round horizontal down lights with 1 pc Sylvania 20W E27 bulb, @RM28/set.
For the comparison apple to apple, CIMA Lighting is selling the same fittings @RM15.70, and Avalon selling the Sylvania bulb @RM7ea. It totals up to RM22.70/set.

I'm using this normal PLC E27 d/lights in all the bathrooms and in the spare room.

- Econlite LED recessed emergency light @RM150ea.
This is a local brand with sirim endorsement. I'm gonna put it at the first floor's ceiling near the staircase.

- Bought an Alpha 56" ceiling fan with incorporated emergency light in the middle @RM360. This is so that we won't get kelam-kabut when blackouts happens.
user posted image

- A Taiwanese made ceiling type motion sensor @RM100. That is to be installed to control the down light at the entrance, so that it will auto lights up once we open the main door and step in.

user posted image

- Lastly, I bought some YET Plus T5, 4' @RM15/set; 2' @RM12/set.

After Classic Hi Light, I went to CIMA Lighting on the same day and bought some Yet Plus 3W (276lumen) LED eyeball for testing. CIMA is having sales now and I saw some Oxyone led d/lights are selling cheap...

Have you test the brightness of the emergency light? Look like retrofit from the conventional type.
My emergency light need to change battery already 2years in operation. Thinking to change to led if not too expensive.

I am interested to know about this motion sensor function that you are installing.
This motion sensor is to detect movement and then turn on the lights being looped to do so.
So this lights are only sensor control or is it able to function as a normal on and off light switch as well?
Thought of installing this for the common areas during night time when lights are off and activate this function for safety and security.

Possible to do so? Any idea what is the range?
Thanks.

I had the same experience. My led lights were cheaper outside. And we are talking about 50 units. At RM 5 cheaper we are talking about RM 250 savings.
Same with 3M water filter. A forummer gave me cheaper by over RM 100.
Only thing I bought any any fair which is cheaper than outside is the Hunter Douglas blinds.
In short go to fairs to get an idea of the price then source it elsewhere.

Havent try it out yet but I think it should be bright enough for me to move around the staircase kua...as this is the type used in most commercial places. I bought the one in about 1.5' length. There is another smaller one look like a 6" square downlight and another longer version about double the length of mine.

I never know that the emergency light has got to change its rechargable batt...the one in my parent's place is still running good after almost 15 years... brows.gif

As you can see from the pic below, there is a pin needs to be pulled out after installation.

As the light is looped thru the motion sensor, guess u can't switch the light on with a switch but you may install the sensor with a switch so that u can switch the sensor on or off.....the light will be on when the sensor is on AND when there is movements around...

This works the same way either for the sensor-incorporated outdoor spotlight or the lights connected to the separate motion sensor detector.

Exactly!! People like us are expecting the exhibitor to be the main player in the market or main distributor who can give best 'promotional' price in town... mad.gif

I shall later compile a list of things that I bought thru exhibition which is a good deal or otherwise. hmm.gif

In addtion to the motion sensor, u may install a timer either to the sensor or straight to the lightings. Like mine, im going to put a timer to 2 downlights at the carporch so that they gonna light up automatically in the evening and auto off in the morning... The sensor spotlight is to be installed to light up a wider area when someone approaching our premises..

Anything on battery need to change, if not it won't last. New maybe 1hour, after few years maybe 10mins.

Yes the pin need to remove if not your emergency light won't charge the battery.
