beginning u say!!! shakehead.gif Thermalright already famous ma, is just that they are fxxxking hard to get in M'sia

which is their product that makes them famous, XP-90 or XP-120, can't remember it, cause so many heatsink they produced & all of em became the best in it's class laugh.gif

Well, this is because, last time out, many people would opt for other stuff than TR.The TTBT and others has far more users here..Zalman as well i must say. Now, everyone is switching towards the TR and i do agree here that those TR coolers are really outperforming so many competitors...lol...

Hows the performance actually comparing it with normal high end air cooling? Is it better?

I am wondering, would the Zalman 9700NT or the Silverstone NT06 be blocking any ram slots or gc slots?I am considering of changing my Zalman Fatal1ty as it is blocking a pair of my ram slots currently...

I think there is a graphic cooling thread here:

But not sure whether you can post gc cooler here...lol..

A change of the stock Opteron's fan to the Silverstone FM82 had caused a drop of almost 6c on the Opteron 165. Previously running at 42c IDLE, now at 36c IDLE...A fan will really affect the temperature that much?

yes it does. seriously does. the stock AMD fan is crap.

Oh yeah... More powerful = more CFM... It really help to get rid of the heat from your heatsink.
*
IC, but i never really thought changing a fan of stock cooler would make that much difference. In fact, the stock cooler uses a 72mm fan and it is now changed to a better 80mm fan.Just needed to modify and screw it into place...

1 more thing, is all aftermarket/stock cooler will have fan that should be sucking air out, or blowing it in?I mean mean for those fan that are lying flat like stock coolers...

But then, the Volar design sure looks much much better than the crappy Intel stock heatsink. laugh.gif

Weird though, even for Core2Quad QX6700, intel still use the same old Intel Stock Heatsink design, only that they've replaced the Black round fan with a "Gay" blue round fan which the maximum speed is higher than the black round fan. doh.gif

Can't they change the stock heatsink to a better design? sweat.gif
*
Like AMD giving a heatpipe cooler for the Opteron series?lol..

1 question here. For 3rd Party HSF that comes with fan, they normally have that thermal sensor thing which allow the fan to adjust its speed according to their temperature. Will it be fine if we force the fan (ie, add fan controller) to run at full speed all the time? Will it be problematic as in the fan might damage in long term use?

QUOTE(rainingzero @ Apr 2 2007, 08:04 PM)
for ur q, the fan lifespan may be shortened due to the 100% speed operation for a long period. that's y most of the 3rd party HSF fans got thermal sensor.most of the fan running for gc also not running 100% speed for most time....
*
Well, the reason is because my HSF is running at maybe less than half the speed it is capable off at the moment.About a lowly 1000rpm instead of the maximum of 2.5k rpm..And my proc temperature isnt that low either, sometimes almost reaching 45c during idle (might be because my AS5 having sink in yet). Therefore, i thought of getting a fan controller in order to be able to allow my fan to run at a higher speed (if not max) most of the time..

Hi guys, need some help here..

Not sure whether this is the correct place to post but if its not, please redirect me ok..

Yesterday, i tried to setup a fan controller for my Fatal1ty cpu cooler as i feel that the fan is not spinning fast enough. The original Fatal1ty come with an auto fan controller which spins according to the temperature. But i wanted it to spin for almost the max speed all the time. Therefore, i added another fan controller (the one they used for the CNPS series) but after doing it, the fan would not spin.It did during the first few seconds but after that, it stop.Does this mean that the HSF is not compatible with a fan controller?

wait, so there are 2 fan controllers?
afaik, there shud be no incoompatibility issues between the zalman fan controller and other fans.
*
No.This is because my Fatal1ty does not come with a fan contoller.AFAIK, i dont think the fatal1ty come with one.Thats why i just gotten myself the CNPS fan controller aka Zalman Fan Mate 1 for the Fatal1ty in order to be able to control the speed of my CPU cooler manually.

This is the way it connects:

Fatal1ty --> (3pin) --> Zalman Fan Controller --> (3pin) --> Mobo 3 pin CPU connector

However, when i starts my computer, the fan turns for while, slow down, and then stops.Thats why i wonder might this be a problem in compatibility or not enough power?

You can set the fan to spin at full speed aka 12V at your motherboard bios.

You need to do something with the bios.
*
Thanks for the info there..I actually does not like to tweak the DFI bios very much.Too many thing to consider.I will try the controller with other CPU cooler and see whether it works or not..

yeah plug it into ur mobo.
if possible, put it directly into the the psu supply. coz the mobo would alvo have controlled the speed there. so ur speed decreases.
*
Do you mean i should plug the fan controller directly to the PSU?Means convert the 3pin to Molex?Never thought of that before.Maybe i should find the converter and test it out.Thanks...

typically, asus's distro in malaysia tends to jack up the price.
so, this is expected. but it aint too bad of a hsf too smile.gif
maybe comparable to the Ultra 90. but yeah, price is a stellar
*
Yea, thats so true. I was looking forward to this cooler last time when i first saw it on review in some magazine and it seems to perform well. However, after looking through some review, it was dissapointing and i was like, OK, if the price is cheap, slight difference in performance aint going to be a problem to me...

Suddenly, it lost any news and when i saw it back lately, i was shocking.gif to see the price at RM259. I would rather spend it on the Noctua or maybe the Ultra-X as well...

oh...maybe i'm still new to hsf,haven't see the brand b4 sweat.gif  all i know is Scythe,zalman,and CF  tongue.gif

btw,17dB will it be very noisy? because our stock hsf is bloody noisy when its running  mad.gif  besides that, the heatsink can lap 1 mar? after lapping will have better performance?and compare with Scythe ninja, which is better?
*
To be honest, i think Noctua could be one of the best cooling in term of silence. The fan performs well and yet, produce less noise. 17dB is already very silent compared to other fans which might produce around 30+dB just to push around 40-50cfm..

Noctua is kinda new brand and hardly can be found in Malaysia. Not shocking if you dont know it. The only place i know is via irangan's bulk. And the NH-U12F is already proven to perform really well...
