noctua is not a new barnd. well not to overclockers anyways.
its just that its relatively rare to find in malaysia. thats all.
yes i agree their fans are one of the better ones, after the Silverstone fan of course.
*
I agree silverstone fans are good but not everyone likes them.Too noisy, at least to me.Yes, they do perform but its really too noisy.

QUOTE(gsan @ Apr 21 2007, 09:46 PM)
you mean that U12 is not suit for overclocker?
*
I think he means that Noctua is a known brand for Overclockers, meaning, they are good for OCing. But to those that are not, they are relatively unknown because its rare here in Malaysia..

when u bench, u would want the max speed that ur proc is capable off. and i guess cooling is one of the factors.
the well, the U12 is perfect for day to day use, but i wudnt use it to bench as it does not push enuf CFM to keep my proc cool while benching. but for silent steups and such, its geat.
all those high CFM fans are noisy as hell
*
Do you mean if we are pure into OCing, changing the silent fan to something better, @ FM121 on the NH-U12 will do?

do you think i'm able to get it from lowyat plaza?
silverstone's fan very noisy ka?
*
If you mean the Noctua fan, i dont think you are able to get at LYP.The only place i know right now is via irangan's bulk. You may wanna contact him if you want it.

I am not sure about the silverstone fan as i do not have the FM121. Wanted to get it though as an exhaust. But i do have the FM82 and no doubt its NOISY at full speed. But the preasure is very good and is indeed a very good fan. If you can stand the noise at full speed, it will be a very good fan for you.I only run it at around 50% of the speed as i cant stand the noise but the pressure is still good. Indeed a good fan if you can stand the price point and the noise level...

If you are wondering how good is the fan on a HSF, my cousin had changed the stock fan of the heatpiped Opteron stock cooler with the FM82 and he saw a significant drop in term of temperature. At least about 5c drop..

Well, no more warranty already for it though. Is it possible to get any sort of replacement fan for it or send it back to Zalman to fix?

The fins broken..

or just buy a 92mm fan, and tie it on the heatsink... tongue.gif

Well, it would be easy if its something like Ultra 120 but on the CNPS, i think its quite hard not to mention its going to be very ugly..

QUOTE(Doom @ Apr 27 2007, 06:25 PM)
Seems llike that's the only solution for the Zalman fan replacement .. besides it's even better as u could choose the right 92mm fan wanted..
hmm .. lucky i didn't buy it last time coz my friend was so into it but in the end also he bough the HR-01 same as me ...

I never like heatsink that comes with pre built fan, it restrict the user from using their own preferrable fan type.. besides it's quite expensive as well ...
*
Well, I got quite a few Zalman products myself (A used to be Zalman Freak) and to be honest, i never had any issue with their products. The CPU cooler is fine (not the best of course), their VGA cooler is great, and the Chipset cooler had an OK performance considering its price tag..I even have their laptop cooler...

And i never had any issue with their fan as well. Some people are said they are noisy. Even with the Fatal1ty listing their fan runs at about 40+dB at full speed, i dont really hear any sound as well. The LED had yet to fail me (touch wood) on my Fatal1ty as well as a 1 1/2 year old CNPS. So, i guess its all about luck still..

Well, of course there are better choices out there in every category but the problem i had with the CNPS is because of personal mistake more than the Zalman.

Yea, thats why i am saying i might be the lucky one. So far no trouble with Zalman products whatsoever.Never tried their newer ones though like the 9700NT etc as i feel like getting other products which performs better at a cheaper price..

Hey guys....
i jsut bought CM stacker 832...
now i got 1 question......
the sside panel can put 4 fans, then i should be airflow intake or exhaust???
bcs now i only use 2 fans(rear+up)to exhaust the hot air and 1(front) for intake air flow...

I think this question is more appropriate if you post it at the Case Fan Thread here :

Need a recommendation here guys..

My cousin's CNPS9500 which i said have a fan destroyed previously had decided to get a replacement for his current Opteron 165. Looking into TR and Noctua, which will be the better replacement?

Budget constraint should be around RM200 - RM250. Not alot of OCing is done (meaning, not hardcore overclocker)..

Besides TR and Noctua, is there any other good HSF with a relative cheap price?Performance should be a main concern..

CoolerMaster Gemin II ??
Cheap and perform good...
*
Well, when i recommended to him, the GeminII came off my mouth first. Its indeed cheap but you will have to consider alot of factors. Spacing should not be a matter as he is using the TJ06. However, there might be blockage with the GC, nb cooler and not to mention, getting additional 2 good fans will stretch the budget way over those good coolers already..Therefore, TR and Noctua will be given priority first as i dont know any other brand which is good already...

QUOTE(Kataro @ May 13 2007, 01:35 AM)
with that kind of budget, I would say go for Noctua... it is only RM210 including with the great fan... thumbup.gif  TR is great too... but depending which model you talking about... and the price is also depend on the model... unsure.gif
That is if his rig have enough space for it... sweat.gif
*
Yea, Noctua seems good. Had been thinking all over it but i still wanted to check out some TR ones first. I have heard stuff about Noctua not being too well in handling OCing stuff but thats not a worry cause he doesnt OC in the first place..He just wanted something that can perform well enough the way it is when installed onto the PC..lol..

Between Ultra120 and NH-U12F, which performs better? What if i add another fan for the Ultra120?

The NH-U12F is not bad but the ultra-120 is better. See this review : http://www.anandtech.com/casecooling/showdoc.aspx?i=2976

The advantage of the noctua is it's silent setup.....
*
Just wondering, from the review there, is the Ultra 120 being cooled down by a fan or just simply on passive cooling? If its really on passive, the performance seems very good...

QUOTE(Kataro @ May 13 2007, 11:46 AM)
I am not sure about Ultra 120... as kmarc said, Ultra 120 better than NH-U12F, then I think you need to ask your cousin first lor, whether he want silent setup or noise is not a problem... if want silent setup, then NH-U12F is the choice... else Ultra  120 lor... just my opinion... icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Well, if given the review is right and the Ultra 120 is able to perform on par/better than the NH-U12F on passive cooling, its really very good. Well, of course, if my cousin wanted a fan, he could always get the Noctua fan and still run on silent right?hmm..Tough choice here...The only difference for me now is that he need to pay much more for the TR and not to mention, even more if he wanted the Noctua fan..

The ultra-120 was also cooled down by a fan. See the section on "noise" in the review.
The Noctua did not improved much even on a push-pull configuration (one fan pushing air towards the fins, one fan pulling air out the other side).

True, if you buy the Noctua with fan (NH-U12F), it is about rm 210. If without fan (NH-U12), it is about rm 180. That means the fan only cost rm30!! Buying a separate fan is rm60-70, I think. See bulk section for prices.....  thumbup.gif

Personally, I would have gone for the ultra-120, it's just that I need to buy an S-type adapter for my K8 mobo. The noctua can be orientated any way you want it!!!  rclxms.gif
*
Ouch, do you mean that he will need to get the extra adapter for Ultra120 just for it to work on Socket 939?

Well, i really love Noctua products.Already got my hands on their fan and NB cooler which both of them impresses me. I know the CPU cooler will also be that way but judging from the price of Ultra120 which is also similar with Noctua, i am torn both ways..lol..Anyway, will look into this matter thoroughly first before making any decision. As of now, it seems that the Noctua would be the best bang for buck with slightly less performance, cheaper and silent..

The S-type adapter just for turning the Ultra-120 90 degree.
So, basically, dont need to get the adapter should work.
*
But does this means that if my mobo is blocking and i need to turn the Ultra120, i need an extra adapter?which means more money, not including the fan..Ouch..Then i guess i will get the Noctua.

Yup, due to my mobo design, I could only put the ultra-120 in ONE orientation only. And that is with the adapter! That's why I bought the noctua instead.....
*
Oh man, in that case, the TR is going to be killing my wallet..lol..Is all TR HSF going to be like that or only the Ultra120?Just calculated that if i really wanted to get the Ultra120, it is going to cost more than RM300..

Ultra120 - RM210 (from bulk)
Noctua Fan - RM65 (From bulk, at least if wanted to run a silent but non-passive HSF)
*Optional Adapter - RM25 (estimated)

Damn..For that much, i rather spend it on something cheaper..Is there any way of getting Tuniq Tower as well here in Malaysia?I dont wana be left with Noctua as a choice alone..

Do you have any typical cooler in the casing?Fans?Third Party HSF?

If you are asking about casing fans only, there is one here:

Maybe it's because of your room temperature as Lian Li fans are okay just abit high on the dba.

To be honest, i never liked LL fans when i bought the casing. Not sure its their filter that caused the trouble or what but they dont really push alot of air to me..

QUOTE([KY] @ May 16 2007, 07:21 PM)
They do actually push quite an amount of air for me, even more than my noctua but certainly super noisy comparing to the noctua.

Akachester you do have Noctua fans right? I need to know something. 1st you run your fan with a filter at the back of the fan where the air gets pushed out. You put your hands the direction where the air gets suck in around 4-5cm from the fan. Do you feel a strong gush of air? I haven't tested it yet but the air filter seems to be reducing the fan cfm alot and causes air to get pushed the opposite direction.
*
Well, i could not tell you exactly because i have taken the filter out. Its really blocking alot of fair from being pushed out and that i am sure. Therefore, i decided to take it out and replace it once and for all..Anyway, will retest and see whether its as u say when i have the time..

QUOTE(Kataro @ May 17 2007, 12:54 AM)
I think the filter should be put at the pull side so that the air won't push back to the casing... icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Not really. LL casing come with the filter at the push side for the rear ran. Therefore, you got no choice but to put it there or else, there would be a big hole there...

QUOTE(kmarc @ May 17 2007, 06:41 PM)
Correction, it is not the fan grill. It is the fan itself!!!

My noctua fan is the same. I felt a gush of air coming from the side when the air gets suck in. Initially, I thought it was because the fan was rotating the wrong way. So I stopped the fan and noted that it was spinning in the right way!!!

It must be due to the design of the fan......
*
No problem with that when my fan is running. Its perfectly running fine without the filters for now..
