Living out of a suitcase for two weeks now. Sucks.

Thinking of swapping the bracelet for leather strap. Hirsch, perhaps. Or anyone have any suggestions on what leather straps can fit the smaller speedy? Looking for a strap with material similar to that of the LLD, if possible...

Straight away go cordovan rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

having deployant of cos prolongs the life of the strap a little, plus makes it easier taking it on or off without worrying the watch is going to slip off ur wrist and go crashing to the floor tongue.gif

Strap on LLD is cordovan? In that case, I just search for that only ler. Quite like how it feels, and being waterproof is a huge plus. @sniper, when I was living out of a suitcase in US/EU ok la... now I am living out of a suitcase up north in Malaysia. Penang is still ok, but Prai area is a lot slower paced than what I'm used to laugh.gif

Bro @Everydying, I've never dropped a watch to the floor, ever *touches wood* Generally quite careful with things of value. Generally la... iPon dropped once. Hehe.

No.. cordovan as in horse ass leather not the LLD type. Check gnomonwatches under rios waterproof strap. I think got something similar to the lld strap.

Thanks @sniper! laugh.gif

Btw, I also have no footie skills, so I have to be very careful. For example, I never have curried anything for meals, unless I am wearing a dark shirt laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Anyone can recommend a good shop to get a Tag in Klang valley? I've heard shops can give up to 30% discount, how true is that?

^What was the deal breaker?

I like the dial, but not the way the lugs taper away from the case. And what's that protruding part between the crowns? A bit unnecessary if you ask me.

The deal's just delayed to cool down, not broken.

Some very anal observations/nitpicking:

- The shop quoted ~USD600 which is in the ball park of the expected price but not exceptional deal. Being USD600, its also out of the impulse buy zone.

- I like the dial and overall finishing of the watch. The lugs works better in real life especially from a different angle. I like the play between brush and polish. Didn't like the screwed on crown guard though.

- Main point is that my enthusiasm slowly dampens upon holding it. It feels a lot less substantial than its looks suggest.

- Its not really a "true GMT" like the Rollie. Works more like an unmodified ETA 2893. Can't independently adjust the 12 hour hand which OK to monitor another timezone buts not much use when actually travelling/hopping between them.

- The movement felt "loose" for the lack of a better word. Rotor noise is audible and the motion of the rotor is easily felt akin (though slightly better) a Seiko 5.

- There's also some lateral play in the crown (itself feels light too) and the 24 hour hand's 1/2 hour jumps with an insecure wobble.

- The fitting of the bracelet's end link is not flush. The clasp is a little underwhelming. While its the milled type, I feel Orient should have used a thicker metal. Its also a little "loose" as if its been worn for a while.

- In short, I'm conflicted because its EXCELLENT value for a GMT watch only its not one in the pure sense. As a USD600 watch, I think its just in the middle ground.

early rolex GMT also worked similar to the Orient Star right?

the rotor noise can definitely be heard / felt, minor issue anyway...though it does feel like it generates more torque.

the clasp, while i like it that its milled, i actually prefer it to be designed nicer / not as thick, since it actually sits higher than it should.

Yeah, similar to the original GMT with quickset date.

What I mean is that the red circled part in the pic is not perfectly finished but ya... just being anal and none of them are deal breakers.

Tomorrow going to another shop to see if its particular to that unit.
