Greetings all watch Sifu's,

Finally I have gotten the watch that I wanted after sometime.

Just wondering, what's a good watch box should I get to be used when I wish to store my watch. I did check out amazon.com and there was a variety of watch boxes available to be purchased but what's a good brand or any particular model that would last pretty long ?

Thanks.

I actually find panerai attractive dues to their design ques. They are also very recognizable because of their newly crown guard trademark(if i remember correctly). However I was not interested buying them because of them putting eta movement and selling for crazy prices until they release their movement p9000. So i was going to research about the p9000 and also figure out which watch has such movement until i stumbled this http://www.network54.com/Forum/353391/mess...sterious+PAM318

After reading all about this and their after sales not willingly contacting all the other 318 owners, i find that this brand is out there to take your money and is not passionate about watches. That is why I do not look highly on panerai as a brand.

That is why i also agree with everdying that this brand is for those who are just into expensive fashion statement and not into the brand as a whole.
*
Yeah, I have to admit, that was a big FUBAR on Panerai's part, a bit of a comedy show, really. Bonati offered to replace the movement with the OPII provided the customers were willing to pay the shipping charges to the boutique. There was never really any explanation as to how it happened or why. I'm not certain if that fubar means one way or another that the watch is purchased as a fashion statement - if that was the case, nobody would have discovered this messup, especially with a fraction of a percent of all watches in circulation. Somebody wanted to open up the movement and see what was up, somebody more interested than just wearing it as a decoration on their wrist.

Most ppl are attracted by their designs not the brands.

For even a basic model like PAM111, I would have place my respect and spend my money elsewhere like for a Speedy or even a Rolex Sub, watches that come with historical value.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater, its just right that when you know that the movement itself just cost about US$300, would you spend the rest of the thousands on the case and design?
Correct me if Im wrong.
Same goes to HUBLOT. Dont you agree? brows.gif

I actually like those two watches, but I'll bite, for the sake of argument and interest. So you're saying, a watch brand that produces and sells nearly a million new watches every single year, one guaranteed to be on the guy in the next cubicle over? The two brands when combined have spent more money in marketing and promotion dollars to get every celebrity, olympics, brand endorsement, racecar, etc than Panerai has ever sold in watches in it's entire lifetime? Is it just me or when you see a Rolex on someones wrist the first thing you ask yourself is "Is it real?" If you're one of the most well capitalised watch brands in the world, it sure is easy to have a lot of history and a lot of first time innovations, especially if you're single-handedly focused on that messaging, meanwhile the specialist watch brand making purpose built watches can barely survive off of a single contract with the local military and the only thing one can come up with is "most ppl attracted by their designs."

I enjoy the spirited discussion, but I think if you're going to criticise a brand, you should come up with something more than "most people buy it because it's a fashion statement rather than it's history." Even if that is the case, you're just saying the watch is so damn good looking, nobody cares about the history? Why do most people buy Rolex's? Because of history? I think most people buy them because they are the best known luxury watch brand in the world. They have a huge womens market - an audience that typically cares very little about brand innovation, history and heritage. It's a testament to their sheer market penetration and the exploitation that they can cater to any audience.

Sniper, i particularly interested to know what you think since i knew you are a into photography and horology.

If you are to use the same amount of money and allow to choose between a:

1) Leica+Summicron lens
2) Rolex

Which will you get if only can choose 1?
Which will you get 1st if you need to prioritize?
Why?

Off course, others please feel free to chip in.

I'm just asking, not gonna spend money on the above anytime soon.

As an avid photographer with $5k in lenses alone, my opinion would always be, go for the watch. It will hold it's value for much longer, even if it's a Rolex. Unless you are a professional photographer than can turn that cost into a revenue generating investment, than the Rolex can never compete. But ask a question like that on a watch forum and you know what type of answer you're going to get. Go post the same in the photography forum and see what they say - I used to be pretty active on that forum, and I'm sure the guys would choose the camera + lens. tongue.gif

exactly... regardless if one is a watch enthusiast, a beggar, a collector, not a collector, someone who doesn't wear a watch... they all know Rolex...

to everyone Rolex = Success...
to those who want to be different or enthusiast, they will go for something else, but... most probably they too have at least 1 Rolex laugh.gif

If everybody bought watches because of functionality.. we'd all be wearing G-Shocks.

Rolex without its prestige, its recognition, the fact its been worn by the world's most powerful men.. is just a Tudor piece that tells time, which lacks a whole lot of functionality that can be done by a G-Shock.

I see. Thank you.

Time to save up for a better watch then.

What do you think of Maurice's movements? Are they accurate?

I just saw a Maurice Les Classique Chronographe in the Garage sales going for RM5k. Within my budget. I think I'd like to get it.
Noted. TQ.

Anyways guys, thanks for your input. Think I'll just have to reset it every week. Only concern now is the gasket, and maybe should just give it a regulation.
*
Well, u have to come up with a bigger budget if its for ML for a more accurate movement. I own one pontos rdm. n it losses more than two minutes a day. maybe its time for service. laugh.gif

RM5k u can try something else for such similar offer. The Tissot Heritage 150 Anni LE. U can only find it on the net by the way. Chrono24 is one. Its going from 1,280.00 USD to 1,800.00Usd.

ML pontos mainly use eta or SW movement
Their masterpiece collection ML tend to do more work on the movement. The classique much like the pontos collection uses eta/SW. Not too diff from say tissot or those microbrands
