exactly... regardless if one is a watch enthusiast, a beggar, a collector, not a collector, someone who doesn't wear a watch... they all know Rolex...

to everyone Rolex = Success...
to those who want to be different or enthusiast, they will go for something else, but... most probably they too have at least 1 Rolex laugh.gif

I guess that's my main gripe about the brand - the price of a JLC, but the production volume of the worlds best selling automobile. When you make nearly a million watches a year, everything is made by machine and very little done by hand. I think the actual cost of making a Rolex is far less than any other brand that sells for the same price range.

It's always been a difficult one for me because it has a tremendous about of history, innovation and satisfies nearly all requirements of a watch manufacturer. While many other well known watch manufacturers have been acquired by Richemont, Rolex still stands on its own. And yet, it's hard to appreciate something so mass produced, on so many wrists, with more fakes in circulation than any other brand, and yet so incredibly expensive.

I think if I am going to spend nearly 10,000 USD on a watch, I would do some research and see who else is out there making watches, especially if it is going to depreciate as a result of so many vintage versions of the same in the market.

I see. Thank you.

Time to save up for a better watch then.

What do you think of Maurice's movements? Are they accurate?

I just saw a Maurice Les Classique Chronographe in the Garage sales going for RM5k. Within my budget. I think I'd like to get it.
Noted. TQ.

Anyways guys, thanks for your input. Think I'll just have to reset it every week. Only concern now is the gasket, and maybe should just give it a regulation.
*
I still think Maurice Lacroix can be found at a resolute bargain in the second hand market. It does not have the brand recognition of watches in the same league and therefore has a very small resale market.

I paid about RM 18,000 for a Maurice Lacroix Calendrier Retrograde (2007), and I would be lucky to get half of that in the 2nd hand market.

The movement is fairly accurate, despite significant modifications to the base Unitas 6498-1 movement. It has several well engineered complications such as the retrograde date (springs back to 1) and power reserve. The movement and dial is detailed and well decorated, and very likely inspired by Breguet.

That being said, my watch tastes have changed and I would have probably sold it if not for the dismal loss I would have to realise. I think you will do well buying it used.

I finally found this in LYN.

But after reading few posts here I find myself kinda small....

I actually wanted to know if there s any Ball fan here.... But my, u guys r talking omega, panerai n stuff....  I m feeling so inferior now lol
*
Don't feel so bad. Let me tell you something funny. That feeling will only get worse as you spend more and more on watches. We all know I like Panerai, and sometimes I'll go to a local Paneristi gathering. I'll bring my small collection of PAM's and meet guys with 30 of them tossed into a single box like crayons. You can't imagine the inferior feeling I get when I pull up in a Porsche, and these guys are in 458 Italia's.

You just gotta find your peace and enjoyment with whatever you've got and know that there's a whole world of people that can barely feed themselves and find shelter.

A watch forum will attract people who like watches, and there is no more important measure of a mans success than a watch (other than a sports car). You can roll up in a t-shirt, shorts and sandals, but if you're wearing a Rose Gold Nautilus, people will know you mean business.

It's love-hate mang!

well i stand corrected. from what i see and experience it is up to the point that it losses 2 mins plus average daily. that i have to change the time every 3 days to make up for 10 mins of plus/gains. the funny thing is, its not even up to its service cycle yet.
*
Lose 2 min or more daily? Still under warranty get it service. Mechanical watch if u mishandle it may do so.
ML doesn't do a hell lot to modify

i do agree with you on this... fakes aside... i think Panerai too has quite a fair bit of homages around laugh.gif

but then, with USD10k... i'll be seriously considering JLC MUTs and of course some PAMs!
Arghhhh... i'm still very interested in those newer base models like 510 and 512 icon_question.gif

date adjustment also once 2x a month only... unless you accidentally skipped a date and cycle through all the numbers every month laugh.gif
but that shouldn't be the issue right?

maybe a lemon lar... but didn't it happen during your warranty period?

That actually happened before. three times.

The accuracy problem only show from last 6 months.

Anyway, will send it over to Maurice Lacroix at Bukit Bintang soon. If its a Lemon, i will know immediately.

Hmm, the El Primero 36000vph 38mm for me. Not the Striking 10th.
I doubt anybody would argue against the El Primero movement.
