I just don't understand the concept of paying deposit for something instead of cash on delivery. These are shops and they cant afford to get stock from supplier?
*
They normally do not stock server range models due to low demand to normal consumer market.

No choice...

Is HGST drives officially sold in Malaysia?
Can't seem to find them.

I've heard many good things about their Deskstar NAS drives, and I'm thinking of getting them for my new NAS setup.

Normally asking to pay deposit is that, they don't stock such item in the shop.

It is not a popular thing and keeping in the shop is a dead stock.

Such supplier won't send their unit to the shop for free.

They will order it for you if you want. Deposit is to make sure you're serious about it.

Want using cash, just go over to the shop and pay.
*
They cant sell also without deposit.

I lost my QNAP (TS-653 PRO) keys to unlock drive bay. Is there alternative ways to unlock without damage the unit?

Guys, did u recently encountered someone trying to access ur synology NAS with admin account?

I have some keywords configured to trigger security alert to my email, starting this year I found quite a number of attempts to access my NAS with admin account. Lucky all failed and IP was blocked after 3 failed attempts.

The NAS should have Log for you to check the IP from where.

Copy paste the IP in google and see where it from.

Last time got such experience before. Whole day for whole month kena hack. After I comeback from China.

And guess what, the IP is from China. ranting.gif

Yeah, I chked and the IP is from Russia (95.70.26.60).
My question how does one knw our IP since we using dynamic IP. I worry synology exposed our NAS IP.

I worked a month in China. Often got to access NAS back here.

That is what I guess how they know.

They some how able to track like how a DDNS track your dynamic IP.

That's why I don't trust much equipment that using China hosting server.

Does anyone have experience sending QNAP NAS for repair? What is the procedure if you may share (where to send)?

My TS-453mini experienced problem after a firmware update. The story: RAID10 (4 x 4TB WD RED) went into rebuilt mode after the firmware update restart (Disk 1 failure?) It stopped after sometime before finishing as the NAS reported some disk was dropped and disconnected from the array. Tried to restart the NAS and when booted up all disk is available but RAID went into "inactive". The recover/rebuilt function is no longer available.

Contacted QNAP and all they suggest is hardware failure, ask to send for repair. Dang...

Another thing: Do you guys do disk scan/SMART test for your disk in the NAS regularly? Is it necessary or good to do? Thanks.

Try to check their forum or google such problem result. Or ask inside their forum. Might find some answer.

I always do that before decide to send.

My synology have schedule to check the hdd health. I don't do disk scan/smart test. Let the unit decide itself.

I'll search some more but I have also tried some linux commands to fix/recreate the RAID but it seems the root device is always not found. sigh...Thought paid good money for a NAS and RAID10 config would kind of lessen issues with backup

Try takeout the HDD and run empty. If the cause from the unit, than no choice to send for repair.

Can the firmware back version ?

Hi All,

I am looking to get a NAS for home use - mainly for file storage, backup, movie streaming and torrenting.

WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra is currently in my list and perhaps the only one.

Is it sufficient for these tasks and is it easy to setup?

Please advise

hello ,

I am having a synology 211J which bought in 2010 ..

having some problem needs your comment and advice ..

1) after updating the DSM to 6.1 version .. the loading time on synology assistant become very slow on loading to browser ..

I am using mac mini High sierra OS on chrome ..(on unifi 50M connection )

the loading time on browser .. require about 40 seconds to load complete .. ( on my stopwatch count )

which i consider very slow .

any local malaysia .. encounter the slow loading on DSM 6.1

I had google abit but do not seems to get the satisfy solution .

please advice and comment further .

2) understand that my 211 J is 2010 spec with only 1.2Ghz and 128MB ..maybe couldĀ not perform to the standard of DSM 6.1 ( latest update )

will you think that if i upgrade to a latest synology 2 bay ( ds 718 + ).. this issue will be smoother
on the loading .. ???

3) if i take out my 2 HDD from my 211J to insert into my DS718 + .. will it works on plug and play .. or do i need to format my 2 HDD on DS718 +

please advise

4) what if i consider change my NAS to asustor ( AS 3102 ) and keep my 2 HDD to this NAS .. surely I need to fo format .. ... Right >..??

5) any local malaysia Asustor AS 3102 can please comment comment on your experiences of usage ..( I like it bcos of HDMI .. can hookup to my home theater system

. thank you for your reply comment ...
cheers

Normally how long can a NAS last? Up to 6-7 years?

Will the hard disk fail first or NAS?

From my experience, the NAS fail 1st. Average 6-7yrs.

Haven't experience HDD fail.

Either 1 fail, your file still safe to be recover back.
