You can just plug in and select something in the setting to generate back the data.

You can put larger hdd size. But you won't get the extra space. If your existing hdd is 2tb, plug in new 3tb hdd, you only get 2tb from the 3tb hdd.

Use the synology assistance to find the NAS. than map it.

Reset back to default. And try again.

If cannot, that mean your router block it. Go in router check the setting.

The data need to be in raid in order to read it. Without another 3pcs hdd, the data in the hdd is useless.

Or you can plug into any pc as 2nd hdd and wipe it out the data.

Why you plan the hdd size so rojak? How to raid?

2gb is enough.

But use 2lan cat6 connection. To increase the speed.(link aggregation)

This morning My Synology NAS Model DS1815+ suddenly no light or respond. Press the button and nothing happen. It just died like that. Only 2yrs old. Probably no more warranty.

Upon checking in the NAS forum, found something interesting with a high failure NAS that use Intel Atom C2000 processor. After 18 month of running, the NAS will fail and won't power up.

So far I read, NAS model like DS1515+, DS415, DS1815+ is affected. This NAS is using Intel Atom C2000 processor.

For DS1815+, those S/N 15x to earlier 17x is affected. Those above 17x is already been fix. (My unit is S/N 15x)

Synology didn't inform any people that brought those model that affected and ratify it.

I have send an email to Synology regarding my NAS problem. Hopefully they fix my NAS even the warranty is over.

For those have such S/N no., try to send an email to Synology and see what to do. It is a matter of time to power fail.

Forget it to use laptop. It doesn't last long and fried it in short time. It running hot.

Depend your budget. If have, proper NAS is best. It reduce your problem handling the NAS.

But for synology, becarefull the model you choose now. Those using Atom C2000 processor will be have some issue like me. Check for the version you will get if you want to get wan.

This is the following case of my Synology DS1815+ NAS. The story is ontop.

Today I get back the NAS. They exchange a new for me.

After I write a complain to the HQ, they request me to RMA to them or RMA to the local distributor. So I send it back to the local side.

The tech guy told me this model have a lot of complain. Not unusual.

Between a week, get a replacement. My 3 yrs warranty is almost expired. Hopefully it can last long.

Put back all HDD and fired up. Reconnect back, link back the DDNS and update the ver. Everything work find now.

Brought from subang jaya. Their SC at USJ.

When I return the spoil NAS, tray, cord etc didn't included. Cause lazy to take out the tray from the HDD.

They exchange the new 1 with everything. Now I have 8pcs spare tray.

No issue with the latches.

What's wrong with the latches? Your HDD case same as mind?

I think they modify the MB with some component solder on it.

You have to activate the DDNS to connect outside. Register to some free DNS provider or paid. Than link to your NAS.

If you using Synology, register on the site and get a synology DNS. Much more easy to manage.

If still cannot see your cloud, go into the maxis router setting. Pass through your NAS IP. (I don't remember actual term and name)

Register to Synology, they host for free.

DNS - Domain Name Servers (DNS) are the Internet's equivalent of a phone book. They maintain a directory of domain names and translate them to Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.

There keep track our dynamics IP so everybody can find you.

Normally asking to pay deposit is that, they don't stock such item in the shop.

It is not a popular thing and keeping in the shop is a dead stock.

Such supplier won't send their unit to the shop for free.

They will order it for you if you want. Deposit is to make sure you're serious about it.

Want using cash, just go over to the shop and pay.

Try contact their service and see can buy or not.

The NAS should have Log for you to check the IP from where.

Copy paste the IP in google and see where it from.

Last time got such experience before. Whole day for whole month kena hack. After I comeback from China.

And guess what, the IP is from China.

I worked a month in China. Often got to access NAS back here.

That is what I guess how they know.

They some how able to track like how a DDNS track your dynamic IP.

That's why I don't trust much equipment that using China hosting server.
