At least now you can use DSM 6. So many new cool features. Virtual DSM, file request <- this is long overdue.

virtual dsm can create another DSM with another network port good if say you want to run a dedicated VPN client for streaming rather than using your existing connection.

you can only see speed improvement on link aggregation if you have many users connected to it. i tried bonding 2 nics and pulling files from it don't see much improvement for 1 connection. make sure you have a managed switch else it is just redundancy.

you should surpass the 100MB/sec mark per file copy easily. if everything is on gigabit (to be honest i personally think cat5e and cat 6 not much diff if short cables.

If for 1-2 users at same time accessing the NAS it will give better bandwidth if I got 2 LAN cables attached from the NAS to gigabit switch?

I have Samsung HU7000 series ,no ethernet connection but planning to upgrade to KS series once it launch here.
Tried playing around with plex from laptop ( wired to router , wireless to tv ) and it's almost unplayable even 1080P movies, much less 4K.  Not sure if it's due to transcoding or wifi connection (using VIP10) ( not exactly technically proficient here    )

That's why wanna confirm NAS route is capable otherwise I'll stick to 2.5"hdd connected to usb port .

Media player like HI-Media you mean ?  I have it next to tv but actually planning to get rid of it once I got NAS.
Switch will just add more box for me, anyway don't know what advantage it will have over direct router conn to tv.

Guys I got questions: if you all already have a NAS or server to store your data, do you all still maintain another backup somewhere? I.e. a offsite backup of your NAS or external drive?

My company is plan to buy a NAS for office use.

Main purpose:
1- shared folders (currently those share folders are in my server and my server need some space for new coming b2b system so plan move shared folders to NAS).
- Volume1/Data/HR              (For HR user only)
  - Volume1/Data/Account        (For Account user only)
  - Volume1/Data/Sales          (For Sales only)

Can set every user's right? like above?

2- backup accounting data.

3- centralized the sources for latest update (now we're email to head of department especially sales if any info  update such as product picture, price list, documents etc. then the head will pass to their teams.

Yesterday went to AllIT hypermarket and they suggest WD my cloud mirror, any comment on this?

any recommend NAS for above function? budget within rm1.5k to 2k

i've a technical question need to ask. can i share partition/space with my family with security features, like they have to login with username and password ? lets say i wanna share 500gb of partition/space each for 3 person with security features.

can i do that with NAS ?

my synology nas show disk 1 degraded and beeping. i need to replace the hdd in order for it to stop beeping?

what does degraded means? hdd damage already? such a short life span?
