QUOTE(jchue73 @ Sep 22 2015, 02:02 PM) Nice. I like the specs of the 1815+ especially the quad core processor and the 4x LAN with Link Agregration.
May I ask how much did you get the unit for? I've been eyeing this model since 1813+. It cost me RM3450.

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Jan 13 2016, 05:31 PM) If you can get somebody in KL and check out Viewnet, they seem to list the 7200rpm HGST NAS drives for sale.
3TB - RM 579 4TB - RM 779 6TB - RM 1199 That is expensive. HGST is premium brand?

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Jan 19 2016, 01:01 PM) It is not premium but known to be more reliable than the common WD and Seagate. Perhaps terrabyte for terrabyte, the HGST NAS variant is slightly more expensive than the other brands of similar sizes because the ones I quoted are 7200 rpm models. In my 9yrs of using NAS, hardly encounter HDD spoil. I have 2tb Samsung and WD red running till now.

QUOTE(gill1314 @ Feb 3 2016, 03:02 PM) i dont trust Seagate anymore , not going back , bought seagate barracuda LP 2tb x4 , WD green x1 , Samsung x1 , within 2 year die 2 , 3rd year all die , WD , and Samsung die too , now all 2tb die , switch to WD red x4 , WD purple x2 . this is really sad all 2tb cannot survive long time [attachmentid=5961876] this time i am cleaver , wont go max capacity , hope 4tb wont fail so fast [attachmentid=5961877] [attachmentid=5961880] Don't think is the hdd problem. More like your enclosure, nas or PC handling the hdd. I don't have such issue. Even the Samsung 2gbx5pcs running for 7yrs now.

QUOTE(deejay220989 @ Feb 20 2016, 04:57 PM) Hi all, I would like to get an NAS, just for downloading videos and playing then through TV. So I guess my setup would be connecting my router to both the NAS and TV via LAN cable right? I'm currently looking at Synology DS216play, DS215+, DS216+, and DS415+. Originally I thought of getting the DS415+, but now that I think of it, I don't need 4 bays, 2 bays is enough for me. Also, DS415+ has much better processor which attracts me, because I'm afraid that I won't have enough power playing 1080p videos. So what is good enough for me to just play 1080p videos? Are any of the 2 bays good enough? Please recommend. Thanks! Any of this NAS is capable to play. 2bay, 4bay or 8bay doesn't effect the speed. It is a capacity. But remind you that 2bay is small for keeping 1080p file. Unless you keep delete it out after play. LAN offer faster speed and stable stream. LAN cable is better. But you have to check your tv able to decode the format. This post has been edited by ozak: Feb 21 2016, 01:43 PM

QUOTE(deejay220989 @ Feb 21 2016, 02:39 PM) Thanks for all the replies Currently I'm using a Samsung TV, and I've been playing movies from my external HDD via USB cable without any issues. If I'm gonna get a NAS, I thought of using Plex, and I've been hearing things about the need to be able to do transcoding, so I'm afraid that the NAS isn't powerful enough. Apparently transcoding is also needed to burn subtitles to the movie.. As for the capacity, I'll probably rethink again, but I think 6TB is good enough for me (yes..I will delete movies which I think are no longer worthy to keep ) Yes, plex is available in synology. It is an add on app. If you can just delete the old movie, 1tb also enough. And 2bay.

QUOTE(deejay220989 @ Feb 21 2016, 08:04 PM) So..as I was saying, if I use Plex, do I need to worry about transcoding? Do I need to choose a NAS with better processor? I only know plex available as add on in synology. I never use Plex before as everything takecare by my media player. And synology have it own media server and video station too.

QUOTE(deejay220989 @ Feb 23 2016, 11:27 PM) I'm actually wondering if I need transcoding in the first place. I know that if I play the videos on mobile device, then I will need transcoding, but apparently even if I'm playing on TV I still need transcoding to burn the subs to the video It would be a disappointment if I spent a lot on NAS..but in the end get laggy videos Just use the DS video app for mobile device. Depend on your network speed. I stream from 8mb to my iOS at home. No laggy. Available subtitle to choose.

Yesterday suddenly the NAS cannot communicate with the PC. Upon check, the NAS LAN light doesn't have any activity and remain OFF. I have confirm the NAS LAN port spoil by 1) Plug into another router LAN port 2) Plug in direct to PC LAN 3) Plug in to another router which in currently running another NAS. Is there another way to communicate with the NAS beside the LAN port ? How can I takeout the data in the HDD ? The model is Synology DS409+. This is the back of the NAS. If not then buy one of this: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3931344/allhttps://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1358447/allThanks for the suggestion. It is raid 5 with 4hdd. With 1hdd, it can't read. Would the data still be read able if insert into another Synology nas? But different newest model?

My sequence try will be 1) put the HDD into the new NAS. 2) using USB But I doubt the USB can use as the NAS need to configure to USB before it can see. (Need to try to confirm)
