My buffalo linkstation pro duo LS-WVL/E network port is dead but HDD and others is OK. (Due to lightning strike). Can I buy a newer linkstation 400 to directly slot in the exsiting HDD without losing data?

I want to configure one way sync between Synology and QNAP NASes but there are very little information with both Synology and QNAP website.

Does anyone know the configuration steps?

Thank you.

As a shortcut, you can try use the Synology File Station to mount or network share the QNAP.

Then see if you can use the Cloud Station app to sync to QNAP.

If cannot sync, you can still manually copy files over to the QNAP using File Station. sweat.gif sweat.gif

Or else, yeah, they say rsync is good, though I've never learnt how to use that before. lol.

Try using the default Synology QuickConnect app.

(look under quickconnect)

Hi all, (being not so active in Lowyat recently)
I am planning to buy a Probox 8-bay HDD enclosure.
Product link here: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/794512

I have tried to search for compatible PCI-E eSATA card, but until I hit with few comments that some chipset does not support port multiplier, means it may not support the enclosure that I'm going to get (8-bay**).
Saw some reviews that only uses the eSATA port from the mainboard but mine does not has 1, and also saw few comments about support for up to only 4 drives in a single eSATA port. Now I wonder if the PCI-E eSATA card can fully support the 8-bay enclosure that I'm going to get.

Does anyone has experience on connecting 8-bay enclosure to 3rd part PCI-E eSATA card? And which chipset can support up to 8 drives from a single port (eSATA multiplier).

Thank you all for your time.
p/s: NAS cost up to 5x the price so I can't go that route with my limited budget.

I found out when i trying to download torrent with Download Station, the speed is got limited by strxxxx (i am on 8M plan), only 10~20kbps. Usually i can get full speed 1mbps by using other country vpn to download on desktop. May i know can i do the same with this NAS?

Erm, this could be considered as networking question but here you go.
http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=173&t=79560

It's in the Control Panel > VPN, so I assume it's already pre-built inside the NAS itself.
Good luck setting it up.
The topic is about sharing the VPN connection on the NAS, so it's confirmed that NAS itself can setup as VPN client.

I don't want to setup sharing VPN, just to make my DS214 connect to VPN for download.
1 more thing, is it possible if my NAS is connected to vpn, but i can still setup ddns to external access my my NAS?

You can setup your NAS to use a VPN connection easily. However, all traffic will be sent through the VPN.

I believe QuickConnect will still work but it will be much slower. A lot of DSM user are requesting to have a VPN client for the Download Station only.

I think you can improve your torrent speed by port forward and use forced encryption on Download Station.

Hi, i had subscribe TorGuard VPN service, the speed has improved, but just about 10~20%, still cannot fully speed up.
I found out i cannot connect the vpn with UDP port, any solution?
I think UDP may offer faster speed for my download.

I suggest you contact TorGuard tech support. I don't use their service, just providing a reference.

Maybe you have some configuration error. Set your torrent encryption to Always may help.

Guys, i accidentally deleted ALL my personal files when attempting to sync between my synology NAS and my laptop using Cloudstation. Is there anyway for me to undo this or restore the files and folders?

Don't have experience with Linux filesystem recovery but normally the files are not actually deleted until the sector is being overwrite.

I guess you should stop using the drive and send it to some data recovery expert. Hope it helps.

Edit : Not sure if you have recycle bin enabled for your folder.

Thanks for the feedback. Don't think so. There's a "previous versions" bin, but that is only for a few files that were modified. The majority seem to be gone.

For now, I've restored a much older back up (few months old) from another source. I'll just have to make do with a 5 month gap in my data.

DNS323 user reporting in,

just a question
If you are not using raid and just using a standard system(two seperate drives)
can i continue using WD green or i should still upgrade to WD red..

because the only difference is that WD red is better for RAID due to the TLER

You can use WD green hard drives for the setup above. You can also use green if the hard drives are configured as mirror (RAID 1).
