Hi, those who use N40L. Is RAID working properly if I run XPEnology DSM?
I would it worth more than DS413J

Finally got myself one DS214 since N40L is impossible to find now. While HP G8 is hit and miss for compatibility with Xpenology.
Anyway if anyone is interested, the G8 is just RM999 from Lowyat's HP shop. |

QUOTE(harakiri90 @ Jun 22 2014, 12:41 PM) Hi all, Get a better router, the TM one just support Wireless N 300Mbit and Ethernet 100Mbit.Would like to ask, I am planning to purchase a nas system the ds413j to be exact. So the question is do I need to upgrade my internet infrastructure. Currently is the basic tm unifi wifi set will it suffice ?? That would be bad either for Wireless or Ethernet. |

QUOTE(Sky.Live @ Sep 29 2014, 10:42 AM) Which File system to invest in? I got a Synology NAS and never regret it, it is so simple to use and setup is quick.I am thinking of building a 3 bay NAS (if there's such system). Cost is a problem to me now. Thinking to start with 2 HDD running raid-1 ( currently I have only roughly 600GB of data that need to be backup). I am worry about speed of NAS as I would be putting my photos on it, during editing I think it would be rather slow since theoretically gigabit connection would be quite limiting compare to a local drive? Their support is awesome and can even remote to your NAS to perform emergency repair if ever required You can get a NAS with dual LAN if you want. https://www.synology.com/en-global/products...rformance#4_bay |

QUOTE(nitehawk @ Sep 29 2014, 04:45 PM) The advantage of DS214play is the media transcoding feature.Read more about it here If you don't need media transcording, DS214+ if a better choice since both of them having the same price. |

QUOTE(Sky.Live @ Sep 29 2014, 11:53 PM) Thanks, I am much inclined towards DS either 2 or 4 bays with a + I don't think there's any with eSATA interface.Dual LAN seems great, I like the option to have a direct E-sata to my computer (not sure if that would actually be faster). Any idea what can I do with those USB ports? can I plugin printer to be share over network as well? The more I read, i realise it is a more than enough capable device it is As for the USB, you can connect a wireless adapter, bluetooth adapter, USB printer sharing and external HDD for backup. DSM OS is powerful and simple to setup, DSM 5.1 releasing soon. |

QUOTE(nitehawk @ Sep 30 2014, 07:46 AM) Most (99%) of my users are using Apple product (Mac laptop, iOS devices and AppleTV), what alternatives 2-bay model us best suite. Their usage included: DSM works very well with Apple products.1) watching movies via TV, laptop or iPad 2) listening to stored music 3) listening to Internet radio 4) BT download Thanks! File is accessed via SMB or Mac file service. You can configure your NAS for time machine backup. Synology also build apps so your iPhone or iPad can access the file. |

QUOTE(McFD2R @ Oct 15 2014, 02:10 PM) I'm planning to getting myself a DS1513+ Synology with probably 5x 3GB WD red or black. Mainly for purpose of storage and streaming of movies to my TV via my current TVIX Media Player. 1) Very simple to setup, there's an app for it.It will also be hosting my pictures and music library as well. My questions are .. 1. Can I access the photos in the NAS from my iOS smartphone and is that hard to setup from the get go? 2. I'm currently on Maxis Home Fiber 10mb. Can I run torrent downloads on the NAS wireless? Any preferred wireless dongle? I have wired Cat6 to my living room which I will use that to stream my movies to the TV. 3. I will be having 1x POE 720p CCTV connected. Shall that be connected directly to one of the 4 Gigabit ports on the NAS or to the switch. 4. Considering my purpose of NAS, what RAID is suggested for my setup? Why 1513? Love the expandability option in the future ... 2) Connect your NAS to the switch, you can control downloads wirelessly on any of your device. 3) Connect to the switch. 4) SHR is great for beginner, easy to setup for future expandability too. |

If your HDDs are not damaged, just connect the HDDs on the new hardware and import the ZFS pool into the new system. Try google "ZFS recover on motherboard fail" you should get an idea |
