Noted, I assume you mean inclusive of shipping to here.
Intl warranty applies to HDD?
*
Yup, included shipping still cheaper than here.

2pcs save me RM500+. sweat.gif

Not sure got intl warranty. If spoil will try RMA to seagate.

5) Make sure the air ventilation in your NAS is good, HDD don't like high temps
*
From my NAS infor, look like seagate ironwolf run hotter than WD red.

I prefer a slower drive like 5200rpm. It runs cooler and lasts very long. Doesn't effect the NAS speed.

Got some toshi n300 6tb’s
What a diff vs wd red 4tb’s

Temps after a copy that lasted 8 hours
The n300 temps was just 4c more. 41 vs 45c

The big difference was plex. The issue wasnt on my comp or laptop. It was on my iphone. Scrapping, and sometimes buffering issue on wifi 5ghz. I always thought issue on phone low power mode or wifi having interference or cell tower issue

With the N300 zero issue even on 4k. Guessing the 7200rpm 256mb cache.

Phone was iphone 7plus and 11pro.
*
have you unable in the NAS setting for video or media streaming thing? max the stream ouput.

Also check your NAS network telco for upload speed.

Sometime I have to lower down the phone stream quality and not set to auto.

So far I don't have the problem with WD red beside aging bad sector.

If you using DS218+, check the memory usage. You might need to increase the ram size.

just transfer a file via network
or download a file from google drive..
*
Try with google drive, but it seems can't download to the NAS. Paste the URL into the download station. But no content in the download. or error.

Try with another cloud station also same.

But my broadband speed is only 100Mbps. sad.gif

I think there's some ways that Google block download from using download manager. You can try with any internet browser that the NAS have.
Also can can try with any site that have direct download without captcha or security, paste the link to download station.
*
Have no problem paste the link to the chrome browser and download.

But can't download with NAS download manager. Use this for torrent download.

Try with others cloud also same.

Anyway just try test speed. But home broadband is 100Mbps. Fast enough for me.

I just googled, there is no internal web browser for DSM?  sweat.gif
It also don't have GDrive add-on package to sync google drive with NAS?
If torrent also can reach 100mbps download then means it have no problem to reach max speed. thumbup.gif
*
No web browser in DSM. For DL, have built-in download station.

No Gdrive add-on package.

Torrent DL depend on network and seed. 100Mbps is no problem at all.

800mbps LAN transfer try before no problem. I use Link aggregation and switch.

I just tried to place an order and it seems like Amazon no longer ship HDD to Malaysia

[attachmentid=10472379]
*
I didn't use Amazon to ship. Expensive and for this case, can't ship.

Probably warranty problem.

Use 3rd party ship.

The price still expensive as exchange rate is high. Even Amazon price down.

I will wait longer.

Another hdd can use if you using Synology. Exos model. Even cheaper.

Interesting... I've never bought any HDD online because I'm over worried about the HDD DOA due to bad packaging/handling.

May I know how's your experience over buying HDD online i.e. from Lazada or even Amazon? Do they cover INTL warranty?

Thanks...
*
QUOTE(rylim @ Apr 23 2020, 09:39 AM)
Thanks for the recommendation and I wonder if you had to pay kastam duty for the stuff imported or not?
Same here! I would like to know as well
*
This is my 1st time brought HDD online too. I also worry about the handling since HDD is a sensitive device. I try 2set 1st and see how is the delivery and put into run test.

Packaging no damage. I request additional amazon packing instead of just the Seagate own pack box. But the 3rd party shipping might open the packaging and stuff together into 1 to save the cost. as long as it has an additional box ontop the own Seagate pack, it fine to me. So far no damage and run for 3 weeks now. Everyday test it read/write.

Amazon might not have a warranty outside US. Check with Seagate the serial no. on the HDD.

I take the risk since the price is cheaper than here. If it can last for 5yrs, good enough.

My experience so far, never encounters HDD spoil during warranty period.

The only WD external HDD spoil under warranty is the internal battery.

If you don't have that luck than consider properly before getting 1.

So far no custom duty either with amazon or 3rd party shipping. Not the 1st time using them.

Hi guys. I plan to get my first NAS. Majority plan to use for storing my design files, media back up and able to access remotely.
Also will use for Plex to watch show.
Is Synology 918+ overkill for my usage?
Anyone have suggestions? Thanks

Finally the "China 4 bays 蜗牛星际" arrived.......ordered 9/5 ..arrived 22/5....almost 2 weeks....

stuck in customs around 3 to 4 days....as usual our customs process is slow...

too lazy to test....just done
1. simple cleaning....
2. power on
3. access the DSM software....disable all stuff and just enable nfs and non secure ftp
4. to be continue....

will update once got time.....
*
The problem with such NAS is, how reliable is it.

What happen when it spoil? Can the data be transfer able to another NAS?

Here experience when my 4bay NAS spoil. Probably strike by lightning on the LAN port.

I can't communicate with the NAS. Nor able to transfer the file or backup at all. Cause everything have to go through the LAN port. And the NAS only have 1 LAN port.

Luckily it is a Synology NAS. From their forum answer, I can get a new Synology NAS and just swap the hdd in. Run the new NAS OS and repair the data back.

That save me alot of time and safe the data too. sweat.gif

Such experience teach me,
1) not to buy a NAS with just 1 LAN port.
2) Get a brand that long been in NAS industries.
3) With a good OS like such transfer able HDD or data hassle free.
4) Minimum 4bay or more

But Synology x86 4 bay NAS cost = RM2000+ ......crazy expensive
I just normal home user and need simple NAS to store my movies only........
*
If back 13yrs ago have a convenient today, I won't start a NAS.

After calculate the cost and maintain it.

After start having it, hard to turn back.

So prepare the cost for up keeping. It is not like buy and forget, let it run for the rest of the life.

I run 8*16TB Seagate Exos
*
How is the exos perform?

I want to use exos since it is cheaper.

But worry about mix run/use with ironwolf.

I read in Synology recommend that running exos need to off the hibernate.
