QUOTE(Human Nature @ Aug 9 2013, 11:57 PM) ^ Thank you. That is pretty much a clear and simple to understand explanation. The camera is programmed to darken the photo if there are obvious bright areas in the photo (assuming you're using matrix metering) such as a sun or sky.The last sentence could be the reason why my pictures are not bright, no flash mode but taken at outdoor (sunny). However, the +/- Exposure Indicator is 0.0 Another thing that I don't understand is, under M mode, the Exposure Indicator bar (viewfinder) is at the extreme side of -ve. Is this the reason why my pictures are not bright, even under 'no flash' mode mentioned above? I thought the settings under M mode is independent and will not affect other setting (no flash, P mode, etc)? Thank you The same happens at night where the camera tries to brighten the photo when it sees lots of dark areas. P mode and EV compensation is where you step in by biasing this so that the camera captures what you want to see. |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Aug 10 2013, 12:52 AM) Thanks for sharing guys! Spot metering is used when you want a particular spot in the photo to have the correct exposure while ignoring the rest of the photo's lighting. Sifus memang sifus I've always thought P mode = Auto mode without flash LOL I was just wondering, do you guys often use spot metering? Apart from when one wants to blow out the background (Which i think can be done through editing if taken in RAW), I don't really know when else to use it lol... summore I always forget to put it back after changing it Say for example you have a person's face against a bright sky. If you want just the person's face to be correctly exposed you'll be using spot metering on the face. Otherwise you'll probably end up with a silhouette against a properly exposed sky. ![]() |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Aug 10 2013, 01:18 AM) Thanks for the input bro~ Normally you'd want to get the right exposure in camera instead of trying to correct this in post la. Ya I know how it works haha.. The thing is even with matrix metering and getting shot 3 above, if taken in RAW I would still be able to "produce" shot 2, and even shot 1 haha... So I was just wondering whether the differences are significant or not I think I've read somewhere that spot metering will be good for white clothing under bright sunlight too, but never tried it out yet If you leave exposure to chance you risk loosing detail in bright or dark areas if the camera can not evaluate the scene properly enough. |

QUOTE(teetaatee @ Aug 10 2013, 11:57 PM) i was like that too when started studio type of portrait, didnt notice all the small thingy, but thats very important yo I see, these girls all have no experience in posing, I'm the one directing them for the poses, although I only know basics, can't seem make their poses real enough to have meaning in the final shots yet. There's still something missing whenever I look at my shots. is she still fresh in posing? toning wise, how i learn for myself, im using lightroom then i downloaded many preset from net, from there i can see their adjustment, then i slowly make mine or modify from the preset Thanks for the input though, will definitely try to notice small details like these in the future I downloaded a huge collection of presets, but haven't really been around to use them yet. |

Have an umbrella type 60x90 one too Only thing missing is a backdrop to be honest. Wow, |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Aug 11 2013, 12:19 AM) I understand what you mean bro haha XD Most of my shots lack the "natural feel" as well, though to be honest its not really obvious in your shots la Yeah, to be honest I don't want pro models to be my subjects, since my aim is to bring out the best light and life from normal people like my gf and her friends. Most people are not trained like professional models, and will definitely become unnatural once the camera is aimed at them One of the best ways to shoot is to ask them to go about their business while you shoot, the shots will be more natural (even though the models will most probably hate them! XD).. but even this also depends on the cooperativeness and also chemistry between the subjects i.e. your gf and her friends.. Some groups get along super well, and are thus very easy to work with.. some do not I often use a lot of presets, but sometimes its best to not use any, particularly for ones like your present set of photos (strobes + white blackground), unless its a preset with very minor change of color tones. Just my 2 cents though haha I understand part of the reason that there's something missing is the communication between me and my subjects. Since it is me who is directing them through the shots. If I make them comfortable enough or otherwise, it shows in the photos. Therefore I gotta brush up my social skills too One reason I haven't really gotten around to using presets is I don't really know which suits what photo and all that. And also because I see photographers abusing it to the point where the effect takes center of attention, disappointing really About natural shots, I do ask them to do funny stuff, here's the few that I've already had up online ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

QUOTE(teetaatee @ Aug 11 2013, 12:30 AM) yea.. u got all the tools, why not trying out some new thing? backdrop just use white wall la.. haha Because the shot was kinda fast paced, had a few hours to do everything, no time to experiment so I just went ahead with what I know works. Two umbrellas left and right and a boom stand with a softbox on the top. sure u have to bookmark that link QUOTE(teetaatee @ Aug 11 2013, 12:32 AM) Exactly, memang This post has been edited by gunzerdude: Aug 11 2013, 12:36 AM |

QUOTE(teetaatee @ Aug 11 2013, 12:42 AM) Can always ask ur gf to be ur model anytime when u got free time to try out the diff type of lighting Yeah, she's been a great help to my improvements in the past two years especially with portraits, dunno what I'd do without her QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Aug 11 2013, 12:43 AM) I totally agree with you on the 1st sentence Hehe, as they say, without some sort of goal to look forward to, it's hard to motivate yourself to improve. Haha, don't be too hard on yourself mate, sometimes its not just about you la haha... if you have me as a model you'll have a tough day too since my expressions are all very fake one Again, great photos man. I like the one where they all hide behind sofa one (not uploaded here i think) What you see frozen in that slice of time, is that connection between the photographer and his subject. I look up video tutorials, and some of the more prominent ones like peter hurley and sue bryce produce really inspiring works. Oh yeah, that sofa shot ![]() This post has been edited by gunzerdude: Aug 11 2013, 12:57 AM |

QUOTE(rickyro @ Aug 12 2013, 06:08 PM) I found this news on facebook claiming that there are fake Nikon DSLR on the market!!! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=571...&type=1&theater I kinda doubt the possibility of being able to fake a DSLR, even an old model. |

QUOTE(seather @ Aug 13 2013, 10:37 AM) Anyone got USD82700 to spare? This ‘Complete Set’ of Nikon DSLR Gear Will Only Set You Back $82,700 Want a “complete set” of Nikon DSLR equipment without having to buy each of the lenses individually? The Japanese camera shop Map Camera is offering a sale on a massive Nikon kit containing a Nikon D4 and 20 different Nikkor N lenses. All you need is $82,700. According to the helpful robotic minds at Google Translate, the name of the package is the “Nikon Chivalrous Nanocrystals Complete Set.” That seems a bit strange, so we’re guessing the name makes a little more sense than that in Japanese. Here’s the full list of items included in the set: Nikon Rumors did some number crunching, and calculated that this full set would have a retail value of $89,800 in the United States. Map Camera is selling the kit for ¥8,000,000, or roughly $82,744. What’s interesting is that more than 60% of the kit’s value is due to just 6 lenses in the kit: the $17,900 800mm f/5.6, the $9,800 600mm f/4, the $8,400 500mm f/4, the $9,000 400mm f/2.8, the $5,800 300mm f/2.8, and the $5,800 200mm f/2. Those six lenses cost nearly $60,000 by themselves! Source |
