does the performance of the SSD increases as total disk space increases? 128GB is faster than a 64GB SSD as example
*
For the same series, yes, you'll notice it in benchmarking reviews that the speed and especially IOPS increases when you move on to bigger capacity, it's the same as your RAID0 with more hard disk, the speed increases as more NAND flash is stacked in the SSD (RAID0 of NAND Flash?? hmm.gif ).
But recently as the technology in NAND flash improved, even the smaller size NAND flash has the capability of very high speed and IOPS despite the lower count of NAND flash, such as the the mSATA from both Plextor and Samsung, they're both having high speed with such a small foot print. shocking.gif

samsung 840 pro is an enthusiast consumer ssd. if you need to use a ssd for enterprise server apps with high read/write's, it's better to get the enterprise grade. alternatively, plan your deployments to use ramdisk and hdd if necessary.
*
I don't think I would use RAMDisk, or is there a good RAMDisk to recommend? Stability vs IOPS? hmm.gif
For a cheapskate company with small investment, I think it will be a huge upgrade from Intel X-25 to Samsung 840 Pro, or is there any better options, certainly the cost is a factor to be consider as well.

Googled that X-25, it was a darn fast read but the write... oh gosh, I should really get a change ASAP. doh.gif

Hi, guyz wanna ask u some opinion... Myb out of the topic but my friend keep asking me so i cannot help to ask all of u guyz.... bcoz i also dunno... LoL... sweat.gif The question is... Which one is fastest for gaming Seagate SSHD or Western digital black scorpio? smile.gif
*
Gaming? Frame per seconds? Or does he means the loads time in-game?
I would say take the WDC Black, better responsive vs normal HDD, in the case of Seagate SSHD, I guess it's just a small cache to compensate some small files for frequent loading so I don't think it'll help much in terms of loading games data (huge), it'll still loads from the HDD itself so the speed is still slower compare to WDC Black.

Suggest him SSD... no turning back... whistling.gif

As long as you follow the guide from 1st page, then you should have a great performance and lifetime for your new "toy". brows.gif

So now your OS mobo can use AHCI + RAID? sweat.gif
My SSD is stuck with the RAID driver now, i have 2 RAID 0 arrays so cant use AHCI, i dont see any benefits by using it cause i dont hot-swapping, upgrading firmware on my Plextor SSD work without OS(offline updating FTW) so SATA mode is not important, but i lose the ability to check the SMART status of my drives sweat.gif
*
What software you used to check SMART? hmm.gif
I think HDDScan can extract SMART through RAID card, but not so sure about your RAID though cause I didn't see any update on HDDScan for many years.
So far HDDScan works on older RAID chipset, the IBM server at my workplace can be monitored but almost unreadable parameters, some missing, some unknown. sweat.gif

but based on the review I read (your thread  tongue.gif ) previous model before 2013 all slow because of sata 3 speed hmm.gif
*
Sequential speed won't prove so much in real-world application.
Most important is the response time in ms (best 1ms or lower) and the 4K Read/Write (higher better).
Wonder if OSX has AS SSD benchmark equivalent which has much thorough testing. hmm.gif

is it a good idea to relocate the user profile from ssd to hdd? since some mention that program like firefox will cause a lot of unnecessary write to the ssd, thus decrease its lifespan. sweat.gif
*
I don't think daily operation will affect the wear cycle that much, unless your firefox is surfing for 24/7 and more than 50 tabs continuous refreshing the content every minute, even so I don't think it'll affect as much as server does (writing several GBs/hour?) sweat.gif

Im about to be first time use ssd, how to use the acronis software? When existing windows on hdd or after fresh os install on ssd? I do read the faq but dont understand because of first time user. Thx in advance.
*
Best is to clean install your OS due to the fact that the OS will be optimized during setup for your SSD.
After install, you'll need to run some optimization again (optional) for much better performance and less wear cycle for your SSD.
Do check out the first page for all the information and guides. icon_rolleyes.gif

Here's my readings. Dunno why the writing is so bad, almost 5 times worse than advertised.
*
Judging from the benchmark, something is little wrong, especially the 104422K.
I'm not so definite sure about that error but could be the mainboard driver issue? hmm.gif
I never tried my SSD on my old Core 2 system of which still running SATA2... erm, may give it a try if I'm darn free, hehe....

Anyway, just to confirm, post your PC info in full if possible, could use the Aida64 report form with Hardware specs only or any other software that can extract your hardware info without much trouble like open up casing.

guys, what is the best ssd i could get that costs around rm300+? and will there b any speed diff between 120gb and 240gb or just the capacity?
*
The only different between 120GB and 240GB is the sequential transfer speed, maybe a little higher at the 4K read/write, other than that the response rate are pretty much the same.
For RM300+, Samsung EVO 120GB seems to take the crowd for now and with its RAPID tech that boost the overall performance. brows.gif

did rapid mode has significant effect on the performance?
*
According to experiences and reviews, it does has some but I don't think you'll notice it in real life, just a splash second faster unless you're into benchmark and IO heavy workloads. Read a few pages back, some users does enjoy the boosted speed. nod.gif

But they have 120GB SSD inside Black2 for cache am i right?  rclxub.gif

That's mean SSD inside Black2 is not function same like Seagate SSHD?
So why the price so Expensive one?  shocking.gif
*
You get 2 disk in 1 package, means you get the SSD as a start, after you installed your OS, and installed the appropriate driver and you get the extra 1TB partition.
Notice that it shares a single SATA interface thus the bandwidth is cut in half if 2 of the disk is operate simultaneously.

Reviews also shows that the SSD and the HDD is not up to par of current SSD & HDD performance but the only advantage is you get 2 in a single package, also it's much more expensive than you get a single 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD, a very-very niche market I would say. nod.gif

Gaming? hmm.gif sweat.gif
I'm not sure what performance do you seek in gaming from SSD but I don't think you will be getting higher frames from using SSD aside from faster loading of games or possibly in between chapters load. hmm.gif

If you want pure performance, Samsung 840 EVO seems to be the deal right now, performance/value.
Getting a single SSD is always better than the WD Black2. thumbup.gif

Organize all your stuff, only put your frequently accessed to the SSD, preferable left around 15% free (according to some users here) to preserve the optimum performance.
You can take the 256GB (~RM600?) for instance, or if you can't then squeeze to 128GB (~RM350?), put 1~2 games in the SSD, finish them first, uninstall and install next one, don't think you'll play 3+ games at one time? Unless you are... shakehead.gif (The World God Only Knows, Otaku should know this brows.gif )

I see thanks for the info, by the way is there any converter for this m.2? Also will it work if i use the converter to plug into the normal sata laptop?
*
See if these links below can help you, but getting it to work may not as satisfactory as PCIe, SATA3 still has limits.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mini-PCIE-SATA-Ada...E/dp/B0073U2EYU
Found no matching support from the list, probably won't work either.

Best to get SATA type which suits your needs.

My bad blush.gif , I should have known one of the optimization is marked "warning", re-enabled Hard Disk write cache for the SSD and the speed bumped back to normal, ~38MB/s now and quite speedy.
FYI: I'm using Plextor M5S 128GB
Also I noticed the boot up during my Windows 8.0 is so speedy that I only need to press the power button and adjusted my seat and it's already at the login screen, now I'm practically waiting for it, more than 20 seconds from the power button to just start to boot up Windows, the rest from the spinning circle is less than 3 seconds. doh.gif

*
What OS are you booting to? Windows 7? Windows 8?
Check your BIOS is optimize boot for which OS, usually new one is optimize for Windows 8, and will boot really fast from Boot screen (Asus logo) then straight into Windows desktop/login.
My laptop from the press of power button to Windows login took less than 10 seconds, but recently didn't bother to count already. sweat.gif

A very good BIOS booting speed is 1~3 seconds. My Task Manager (Windows 8) shows the BIOS boot time is 1.5 seconds. brows.gif
My old Core 2 Quad system however took more than 20 seconds on the BIOS boot... doh.gif Rarely open the system any more except for gaming.
Watch movie using laptop connect to external monitor.
SSD... you'll never... Ever... turn back! thumbup.gif

4xx vs 7xx is a very big difference though.. also planning to get a 750GB/1TB WD black HDD for my (going-to-purchase-soon) laptop :/

Yeah I know Samsung Evo is catered towards the mainstream side.. thinking if will it be more cost worthy to get a 120gb first then only upgrade to a 240 in the future when the price drops. The only issue now is with $$ constrain.
*
Just get what you can afford right now, SSD price dropping like *ahem*Boleh*ahem*-land*ahem* market share so expect SSD price to shred half in 2~3 years time, so by that time your SSD warranty expired, you can actually takes up double the size at similar price.
This is all of course, the NAND chips do not suddenly goes extinct and the price surge like hell. shakehead.gif
