Went to PC Fair to find GE70-2OE...they told me that I have to pre-order for it...but they're recommending GX70-3BE instead with the same price as GE70-2OE which is RM 4.5k....should I go for it?

GE70-2OE, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4499,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, backlit keyboard
GX70-3BE, AMD A10-5750M + AMD XT HD8970 + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4899, 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, steel series & backlit KB

GX70-3BE has more powerful GPU, but is seriously capped by the weak A10 CPU.

Consider this one instead:
GS70-2OC, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4699[2.66kg][Dynaudio], 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, steel series multi color backlit KB
(check out the weight)

1. Preferred Brand - Any brand which suits the needs
2. Budget - Around RM 2500
3. Usage - Bootable for Linux & windows, object rendering and some light net surfing, no games played on this since i got desktop for that ^^~
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 13" or 14"
5. Light Weight and portable and battery life shud b able to last at least 4 hrs
*
Still need reasonable GPU if need to do rendering tongue.gif

Dell
Vostro 5460, i5-3230M +Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04, 3 cell; W8SL@RM2099
Vostro 5460, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT630M + (32GB mSATA SSD + 500GB(5400rpm))@RM2199[1.54kg], 4GB, W8SL, 3 cell
Prices are RSP, negotiable.

The M CPU spec has Ubuntu spec right out of the box, the ULV CPU spec has better battery running time, but only spec with W8 (but you can at least be comforted that its sibling work with Linux)

Anyway, for any brands / models of laptops, it is typically up to users to make Linux work laugh.gif

I'm just asking only. cause not sure should I buy my laptop here or there. any recommendations?

If budget is a concern, it is definitely cheaper to buy in Malaysia and upgrade to get International Warranty. Just make sure the brand / model has SC in UK.

Unfortunately you will have to install the SSD yourself. Stock notebooks (apart from a few brands) don't come with SSD as standard.

Can consider this:
15.6"
Asus
S551LB-CJ077H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M + (1366x767; touch)@RM2699, 4GB, 750GB, W8
N56VB-S3070H, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2899[/b][2.7kg][B&O], 4GB, 750GB, W8

Lenovo
Z500, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2299[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 years warranty
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3099[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

*Some models are over your total budget, but worth considering since you can always put in the SSD anytime, as long as when budget permits
