Going to buy a new laptop at tomorrow PC fair.

In the meanwhile, does anyone know whether there is matte screen protector in the market? Usually how much they sell? Currently all of the screen protector I saw is glossy one.

1. Preferred Brand: Lenovo (but anything else with good build quality would do)
2. Budget: RM2000
3. Usage: University, no gaming, preferably ultrabook type, fast boot
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14"

Question for the sifus: Lenovo U410 in Malaysia suffer by wifi issues or not? Cos I asked some dealer and he/she said no one ever complain before.

Thank you yah. smile.gif

Use remaining budget to upgrade RAM to at least 4GB, and also extend warranty to 3 years  icon_rolleyes.gif
If you are a girl, check out the Sony  brows.gif

Thank you
I'm sorry but may I know why need to upgrade RAM to 4 GB?
And the reason I dont want to continue using toshiba because my previous laptop always have the screen problem, the whole thing black out and in the end I need to change the screen. So, if for other brand will there be any problem similar to this?

Hi all,

My current laptop is slowly dying, would like to look into getting a new one... Would appreciate some help !

1. Preferred Brand - Not Acer or Dell

2. Budget - 3k to 5k RM

3. Usage - Photoshop / image processing, watching hi-def movies, running numerically heavy simulations for work (eg in Excel, Mathematica, C++ etc... I've heard that GPU technology is quite good these days for this kind of purpose?), playing games

4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 17" screen, as light as possible given the requirement

Appreciate any recommendations on this one, thanks in advance !! smile.gif

If i do buy Illegear,  what about the after-sales service after I move? It is Malaysian based right ?

Might want to check with Prince J on that mate. I'm sure they have international warranty coverage as well. But might as well just buy overseas if like that tongue.gif

U310/410 suffers from wifi issues and are older generationed notebooks hmm.gif
Go for S400 instead:
14"
Lenovo S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM1999[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB; AMD HD7450M/W8@RM2199

If you want fast boot, make sure you go for one that has mSATA. Most of the newer ones within RM2k do not have on , thus slower nod.gif

14"
Dell
Inspiron 14z, i5-3337U + AMD HD7570M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2299[1.87kg], 4GB, W8SL, OD *no VGA port
Vostro 5460, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT630M + (32GB mSATA SSD + 500GB(5400rpm))@RM2199[1.54kg], 4GB, W8SL, 3 cell

HP Envy4-1009TU/1019TU, i3-2367M + Intel HD3000 + 32GB mSATA+ 500GB(5400rpm)@RM1899[Beats][1.75kg], 4GB, W7HP

Toshiba Satellite U840-1009X, i3-3217U + AMD HD7570M + 32GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM1899, 4GB, W7HP

*Prices in RRP, negotiable
*Do take note that sellers will definitely recommend newer notebooks without mSATA, which are slower, so know what you want before trusting them brows.gif

All brands will have bad apples. And whether they have problems or not sometimes depends on user care as well nod.gif
Sometimes it just depends on luck, so its better to get good warranty support and duration instead to fix those problems when they arise nod.gif

4GB RAM is usually the "optimum" or minimum amount of RAM required for general multitasking. Your computing experience will be smoother, especially when you are doing several tasks at once time nod.gif

Electronics have a 20% tax in UK so more likely they will be more expensive over there. You can go on amazon.co.uk to check the prices.

Source? I've studied there for 2 years already
