QUOTE(nexus2238 @ Aug 18 2013, 08:20 PM) Dell has the best warranty support service in Malaysia. Hi, Inspiron 14R, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM1999 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8 , 6 cell Price is RSP, negotiable. Haswell spec for good battery running time. GT740M is the best GPU you can buy with your budget. Extend warranty from standard 1 year to 3 years next biz day on site for ~ RM300. All in within your budget. Can increase RAM after market, will not void hardware warranty. RM200 can get you 8GB stick right now. May want to consider going SSD. Buy a SSD (128G ~ RM300, 256G ~ RM600), swap it out with the HDD (and turn the HDD to become your external HDD) (again, will not void hardware warranty), and your machine will become very very responsive. I've been going around and after a while, I think I can increase my budget to RM2.5k. The laptops that I'll mentioned are not yet available with resellers/retailer (at least here in LYN. I didn't go check outside). I'm in a difficult situation to choose between these two: (1) Dell Inspiron 14R - I5-4200, Nvidia GT740M, 4GB, 500GB HDD, W8, 6 cell. 1 slot for RAM, battery undetachable. RM2049. (I didnt ask Dell for discount, might get one if I ask (2) Dell Inspiron 14R, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M, 8GB (4GB x 2), 1TB(5400rpm), W8 , 6 cell. 2 slot for RAM, battery detachable. RM2699. (Dell offerred me RM130+ discount Here why I have difficulties Case 1: Take (1), swap HDD to 128G SSD (~rm300), and change the RAM to 8GB (~RM200). Total cost ~RM2559. With this, I'll get a "very very responsive" system, and an external hard disk. But I'll risk the battery's life because I can't take it out during long hrs usage. :/ Another concern is, Dell doesnt do SSD swapping and RAM changing, hence, I have to do it after I purchase from Dell. I scare shop will charge higher (i.e SSD rm400, RAM rm300 Case 2: Take (2). Total cost ~RM2569. With this, I get a more powerful CPU and GPU, and I don't risk my battery's life. But I dont get an external hard disk and the SSD. :/ Also I think its good to mention that I don't store movies/dramas, hence I dont feel I need a big storage for my laptop. For example, my current Acer only uses 94GB out of 160GB. Most of the space are filled with my works/notes/softwares. Thats why I thought maybe I should get an external so that I can SAFELY store my works, pics, notes, books etc in it. What's your thoughts? Thanks. |

- Below MYR 4,000 (the less the better) - MS Office, Photoshop, web surfing, streaming & watching movies, lite gaming (FB games & MapleStory) - I tend to leave quite a few applications running at the same time, hopefully they could run smoothly? - FHD - Weighs around 3 kg or less Looking for a durable one if possible, 'cause I might be using it for long (My current laptop is 10 years old or more Thank you |

Hi all,
I'd really appreciate some help with a gaming laptop. I do have some unusual requests (the ASCII thing) but have never owned a laptop, so please bear with me and let me know if some of my requirements are not possible. 1. Preferred Brand: Any 2. Budget: RM2.5 - 3.5k (It'd be great if I don't have to go over 3k but I doubt that...) 3. Usage: Gaming and work - I play Guild Wars 2 (It's an MMORPG) and would like to have a smooth gaming experience on a medium to high graphics setting (medium is good enough, I prefer performance to graphics) - and I don't need anything fancy for work. (Note: Would prefer 6-8GB RAM, SSD and matte screen; ASCII keyboard if possible.) 4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15.6" max... As lightweight as possible coz I hate lugging heavy stuff around. Would appreciate feedback/suggestions. Another note: I do not need to purchase this immediately, and will probably need a couple of months to save up for it, so I don't mind waiting for new releases that will come out in a month or two. |

QUOTE(nexus2238 @ Aug 21 2013, 09:43 AM) Not that many models actually, some are just different specs for the same model. thanks for your suggestions Basically all of them are sufficient for you in terms of usage requirement. If you like longer battery running time, then go for U(LV/LT) rather than M(obile) CPU. Those Haswell ULT (ix-4xxxU) has even better battery running time (assume same battery capacity). The the rest is subjective and all up to you. Go out and look / touch / click / type / listen / carry the models to see which one you like best RSP - recommended selling price by brands. Re-sellers typically sell at lower than RSP. No, I'm NOT a re-seller If you want a very responsive laptop, may want to set aside some budget for SSD (128G ~ RM300, 256G ~ RM600). Swap the SSD with the HDD, install OS and apps on the SSD (keep the HDD as external HDD), normally will not void hardware warranty. |
