I am studying in Universiti Malaysia Pahang(UMP) now which is kinda new Uni,guess you never heard bout it do you ? Students from UTP has higher chance to get into O&G industry upon graduation, that's what I heard and they do offer better education in petroleum related subject.
My second option is to go to INSTEP with my diploma and take 1 year course about petroleum technology. What about this bet ? is it a smart move ?
maybe some words of advise from bro azraeil ? icon_question.gif

Hi, I might be your senior. I graduate from UMP back in 2012. For your info, there is a lot of our super senior currently in the OnG industries. Yes it's true our uni is consider a new uni, and our chance to get a job in this field is slim compared to big uni such as UTP,UM,USM,UTM,UiTM, but if it's your "rezeki" is there, than no one can take it.

I have one friend's who finish his diploma in chemical eng currently is doing internship at Petronas Kerteh under INSTEP. I'm also currently trying to get a job in this field last time I take a short course of Process Instrumentation & Control Technology under PSDC. A few of my classmates got a job in OnG industries after joining this short course. The key is always keep trying, but if you got big "cable" than it's a different story.

Woah didn't expect to see an applicant posting here, wish you to be the lucky 50 out of the 356 appplicants. I had bailed out instead joining under the B7 program which is also a lvl 2 cert.

If dapat mechanical engineering, do tht bro...i think mech engineer is one of the most versatile discipline in the engineering field... cos when come to think bout it, everything related to mechanics, klau tak da mech engineer, no BMW, no fan, no air cond, no car and of course no petrol also...

on a side note, is UTP open for application atm?  smile.gif

For Diploma graduate I think it's better to join INSTEP. Since they're course is well structures plus you got to do an internship at Petrochemical plants. If you are lucky you might be offered a jobs.

For Degree graduate, you can't apply for INSTEP since they only accept Diploma holder, and if all other option is unavailable than you can choose to join short course like Process Instrumentation at PSDC. It's better for degree fresh graduate to join graduate engineering programme like Petrofac, Technip, Aker....try to google for more.

Call me pessimistic but we've drilled so many wells in the straits before and NADA, not a thing. The back-arc stops in Sumatera Island so in terms of trapping, I doubt there is so trap risk is probably a bit high. Unless they are testing new plays, I wouldn't put too much hope on this venture.

At approximately 8.20 pm yesterday, 11 October 2013, we experienced a well control incident at a drilling rig working at the South Furious platform, located approximately 80km offshore from Kota Belud, North Sabah.

South Furious and the neighbouring Barton field were immediately shut down.

All personnel on board the drilling rig and South Furious platform, including Shell personnel have been safely evacuated. 2 liferafts were launched at 8.50pm and they were saved by JM Bayu and tug boat 2 hours later. Thankfully everyone is safe and accounted for.
