dude, are u still up?
coz 'm trying to OC single gt750m right now but I seem couldn't find the acceptable O.C setting.
using nvidia optimization, Tomb raider benchmarking & msi afterburn here.
Got any idea for good O.C setting(temp below 85'C) ?

If you don't flash the unlock bios you are limited to +135 core clocks and as for memory clocks are not limited.
If you have flash the unlock bios from slv7 then you can have unlimited core and memory clocks (of course there is a limit)
For starters try +135 core clock and + 200 memory go for valley benchmarks for stability.

Because when you unplug, your core clock have been throttled into 300Mhz to preserve battery life.
Why you want to do that? You could killed your battery...
It is very unhealthy for your battery to game while not on AC power. Laptop batteries that drain this quickly will get worn very quickly.

of course i'm still up xD currently downloading the latest 320.49 WHQL Nvidia driver..

Urm, sorry bro, but I can't help u with that one. I've never tried OC'ing in my entire life sweat.gif . Btw, it's recommended NOT TO OC ur graphic card, especially for laptops one... Laptops are very fragile to hardware settings, unlike desktop. Minor changes can cause major results, but some result are good ones, some are bad ones.... I can't help u, but here's my 2 cents. JUST BE CAREFUL icon_rolleyes.gif

well, it's worth the try. btw, what AiSheep said was correct. For gaming, without battery is a no-go... must be plugged in.. if not ur battery will discharge quickly, and this affects the battery's life... unsure.gif

After hearing some good news about Nvidia's 320.49WHQL driver from @awkc , I decided to install this new driver. Hopefully it'll run fine. Keeping my fingers crossed! >.<

it's common to face lag when playing games on battery with most gaming laptop... This is because the gpu consumes too much power to process the graphics... When playing ur laptop on battery, the much advanced the graphic of the game that u run (such as Skyrim, Hitman Absolution, Remember Me, Dishonored, etc...) then for sure ur GPU going to consume much2 more power to process the game's graphics, and as such, the battery power can't cope with the demand.. hence the lag.. if no lag, then for sure ur battery finish after 15~30 mins xD
*
thanks .. but.. erm .. wait2.. i'm still not understand at all la as i haven't own it .. playing games in the laptop without battery will affect the laptop ?

and for yr answer, can i conclude that the higher graphic needed of a game the faster battery drained (while playing on battery yeah)?

Hey guys, the Y500 and the upcoming Y510 look like top notch gaming notebooks. Quick question though, between the Y510 and the Illegear RE-15, which would you recommend?

Thanks smile.gif

Although, I'm Y500 user IMO, RE-15 is better, unless you want SLi then go for y510p
RE-15 comes with your own customization which is design for every purse biggrin.gif
Where y510p

With Ultrabay, you can have
Extra GPU for SLi
ODD for DVD's
HDD Caddy for extra storage
Removeable Fan (useless)
Empty Caddy (for decoration)

You never downgrade your GPU, you just have additional GPU biggrin.gif

Y400(5937-7760), i7-3630QM, GT750M(GDDR5)@RM2499, 4GB, 500GB, freeDOS, red backlit, 120w psu, ODD, 2 years
Y400(59-373880), i7-3630QM, GT750M(GDDR5)@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, red backlit, 120w psu, ODD, 2 yrs

What is "freeDOS", first thing that comes to my mind is DOS OS, though it wouldn't make much sense considering it pretty much can be classified as abandonware/freeware.

What is a W8? It should be something good considering that it warrants an extra RM200.

Z400, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099[2kg] 4GB, backlit, 1TB, W8
G400s i5-3230M + GT720M@RM1799, 4GB, 500GB, W8

How do the Z and G series compare with the Y series in terms of gaming? Playing on low-med settings on 13xx by 7xx resolutions and/or lower and no AA. I'm thinking of games like bioshock, dishonored, etc. Both systems specs look about the same to me, with the Z series costing RM400 less.

How is the cooling on the Y series (Y400/500)? I remember purchasing an Acer 4736G back in late 2009 sporting an Intel t6500 processor, Geforce 310m and 4gb ram, and not being able to play games like FO3 without the risk of the whole thing melting. As is was and still is, I'm using power saving settings with the lowest cpu/gpu output available through default windows settings- it idles around 60C. I'm tired of laptops boasting high end specs when in reality around half to three quarters of the hardware's true potential can be used without frying the motherboard. Given the heat issues that plague high-end laptops, is there any point in adding adding a second video car?

How user friendly is it in terms to taking it apart for cleaning (cleaning fan, reapply thermal paste, etc) The Acer 4736G is not user friendly in this regard at all- I mean you literally have to remove whole thing piece by piece just to get to the fan. Check the video on youtube with the Vietnamese technician taking it apart to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Any news on later releases with a tad lower specs? like an i5 version? The i7 seems a little bit overkill in my opinion due to aforementioned issues.

Thanks!

freeDOS means that ur laptop doesn't have any OS.. u're free to install any OS such as Linux, Mac, winXP, win7, win8, winVista, etc..

and w8=win8=windows 8

i'm not sure how it compares, but if u're looking for mid-term gaming, then go for the Z series. But if u're looking for mid-high to high-end gaming, go for Y series.. My y500 able to run Dishonored on full settings without any problem biggrin.gif

Cooling is really bad-ass in y500~ y400 i'm not sure though.. back on the cooling of y500, i'm able to play games up to 5 hours before worrying about overheatin it, and this is playing the laptop without any cooling pad, in a non-air-conditioned room, without even lifting the laptop for better air-ventilation biggrin.gif

Well, i'm not sure how "user-friendly" this laptop is as i haven't done any research on cleaning the internal parts of this laptop or applying new thermal paste etc..

lower specs? I'm not sure about that.. most official Malaysian Lenovo Y series comes with i7... there's an i5 version for lenovo y500 with gt750m graphic card, but it's the US version unsure.gif
