QUOTE(totti 10 @ Oct 15 2013, 07:30 PM) The firm that i am joining has 9-7pm average according to the hiring manager, and he says that is pretty much the average in the industry. I think for goldman sachs they have a longer working hours compared to the other firms, and research on the internet also confirmed this. But they do pay alot more. Depend on the type of work you do, you may be required to work at odd hours, midnight, early morning so you can have an online meeting with your colleague overseas. Don't worry about their sleep and life, its always you staying up for the online meeting. And your local boss expect you to come to work at 9am the following day to have a meeting about your meeting yesterday night. Working hour is long, very long but I think you will do ok coming from engineering, 24 hour contactable, forget about movies, concerts and gatherings. This will be the first time i am joining a european company, i think their working culture is good, from what i learned during the interview. The manager even asked me to hang out this weekend for some drinks n sheesha to casually meet my future team and casually discuss about my future challenge jumping from engineering to banking. Btw i have been in sg for 2years, just not really active here recently Boss comment on the brand of your dress, bags, the car you driving, even the place you stay so to paint a picture to outsiders they are doing very well to attract more talented people into the industry and also to their clients. These are what I gathered from my coursemates who worked at ang moh investment banks, one of which one of my very good friend from uni so I don't think she is hiding or boasting anything. Went for one US IB before graduate just to see what they will be offering and partly due to peer pressure but never take up the offer, but still end up working in bank |

QUOTE(totti 10 @ Oct 15 2013, 01:52 PM) An investment bank came to me with an offer of 55.5k basic annum for an analyst position. Was quite surprised by the offer, considering i have zero exp in banking. The offer is way higher than what i demanded too (43k annum). No wonder all the singaporeans are chasing the jobs in the cbd. congrats... you are very very lucky.. i have been working as an analyst with banks and telco for more than five years and my pay is just slightly more than yours... |

QUOTE(be_happy @ Oct 16 2013, 06:43 PM) me also... I've made several application. Few application thru recruitment firm got a reply as below, the rest no news at all. "...In order to conduct timely interviews, this job is suitable for candidates who currently live in the country where the role is based, and who have the right to work there. We are sorry to advise that for this reason, we are unable to proceed further with your application...." Is that normal reason they reject? or they need those ppl already stay in sg? Maybe now is not the right timing, due to off peak and Sg gov strengthen the rules. How you guys apply job? mind to share? How to know they will consider Malaysian? How to know they will consider Malaysian? of coz their priority will be given to Singaporean/SPRs/foreigner that staying at there.. but that being said doesn't mean you don't stand a chance .. is just how badly you want to come.. u can however try to correspond with a SG hp number.. some say the head hunter tend to like local numbers.. you have not tell us ur experience yet.. are you fresh grad or working professional ? I think every one knows that Singapore government encourage Singapore companies to hire locals (Singapore citizen) .. foreigners might find it is harder than it used to be... even the PR feel the heat (not really on job thou.. ) to me.. there is no good time or bad time.. is just how good you are (ur experiences) or how low you willing to accept ... just my 2 cents.. |

Now probably not as easy to get a job here as a foreigner, but as iloveteddybear above shows, still definitely possible. Conditions now tightening a bit cos MOM putting more and more restrictions. |

QUOTE(lzhaojie @ Oct 17 2013, 09:47 AM) Do headhunters/employers like to see SG address and phone number before they continue reading the resume? Job that prefers Sg and PR will have the requirement stated there. In my case, the headhunters/employers were browsing through Malaysia database so there was no such expectation. For freshgrads, the hiring manager requires English transcript, and official letter stating your graduation. They are sufficient to get you employed in Singapore even though you're not yet receive your cert, or held your convo.Pure technical jobs are highly competitive due to high supply from India/Philippines. Hybrid job which requires similar culture in critical thinking and communication skill (e.g. techincal sales, auditors) give Malaysian the highest advantage. |
