It broke. The fuel level dropped to 0 suddenly, one service centre said it is very common for fuel gauge to fail after around 70K km, but another Kia workshop say it is not the case. Sent in for checking this morning, fuel pump failed. ><

Do not frighten me. Is it really common ? I am getting worry for driving Forte now.

I don't know, I suppose it is not, not much information about this issue in the net. Korean Car Specialist quoted me just over RM900 to replace it. ><

Fuel gauge failed after around 70k km is not common i believe..unless for Proton cars (speaking from own experience).

1 more thing is, fuel pump failed should has nothing to do with the fuel gauge..2 separate system from my understanding (at least for an analog fuel gauge like Forte) (EDITED)

No need to worry bro..fuel pump or any mechanical parts on whatever cars will fail at some point & in most cases will not impose any dangerous situation if we dont panic & able to maneuver the car properly to the road side. No mechanical parts is fail proof right?

Correct me if I am wrong.

Gauge is the one which gives you the reading on the dashboard right? Analogue gives reading by a bouyant float on the tank and digital goes by sensor. Even if your gauge failed, you can still use your car. Just that your car's fuel reading will always be zero. Pump is not affected.

You will know if your fuel pump failed ma. There will be no fuel going into the engine. Practically, your car will not be able to run. You can still drive to SC? Ada kena con ka?

If really only the gauge gone, just change the gauge.

Oh. Too late to get worried. Hehe. I believe this is independent case la. If your mechanic tells you that it is normal for this and that to fail at this millage, he is just generalising. Your driving attitude and attentionto the car plays a role too.

The main reason for the fuel pump to fail might be the bro over there is always running on low level fuel tank. Always force the pump to run even if the fuel indicator blinks. Alot of factors.

But sometimes depends on luck also. Last time my Saga was tortured so bad that I always run her on hunger. No fuel for her till I know that I am at the very very empty limit. Sorry Mandy. I bertaubat. I will not do it to this car.

just talking with one of KIA SA doing promotion at my office. he claim that for new 1.6L 6 speed, now KIA already make some tuning to the ECU for better speed & better fuel csmption. He also claim that the car itself already increase of it horse power. Any existing owner here already send their forte to SC to upgrade their ECU to be up to standard with new forte?

i maybe a future kia forte owner...hehehehhe

i also facing the same issue before, for my case is just the fuel gauge sensor cable is faulty/broken inside the fuel pump. I check with SC before is around RM300+-, but i manage to fix outside around RM200+- to replace that sensor cable.

I have just installed the DIY Voltage Stabiliser and Grounding Cable from one of the forumer, erictioh. There is alot of good effect posted by different car users. I am going to review one by one, which some effect will be later because I will need time (at least 1 week) to actually feel, check and verify because I do not want to write placebo effect review. I have just drove a 2km distance to really feel the effect.

My own identified problems:-

1) AC not cold enough. I am current set at 22 degC and I do not feel that the off coil temperature is 22 degC - Feels colder. Can be placebo effect. It was raining before it stopped and sun shined and hot again. TBC

2) 1st to 2nd gear change is noticeable. Not jerking, but the sound. Other gears not noticeable - This one can feel immediate improvement. Not noticeable now. TBC

3) Car vibrates very very little at idle, my butt can feel it - Car vibrates very very very very very little now during idling. The steel bottle in the bigger cup holder does not emmit vibrating sound like it used to. Be it in idling, or engage in D, with foot on brake. TBC

4) Some of the songs has interference noise in stock car audio, but nothing on laptop - Not able to fix. The interference is still there. But bass and the deep voice enhanced. Cleaner voice and sound now? Still very subjective. The sound level seems like enhanced. Level 6 volume now in Music is like level 7 before installation. Radio not yet tested. Might be placebo effect. let me check again when I am on highway. TBC

5) Wife said engine noise loud when she is outside of the car - Noticibly lower engine noise at idling and running. Might be placebo effect too. Sometimes under certain condition engine can be as quiet as a sleeping baby, sometimes a lion roar. My benchmark/ memory might be noise from morning crank up, or when the radiotor fan ngam ngam kick in. Wei...I seldom step out of the car after car start of walk out with engine still starting. TBC

6) Piggy back feel at traffic light - Have not run on full course to try drag. Will try later. TBC

Some user's possible positive effect apart from what I have listed:-
1) Gear shift smoother for all gears in AT - Have not tried full run. TBC
2) Light (Head, cabin, tail, etc...) become brighter and less dim when air-cond compressor kicks in - I do not feel compressor kicks in effect on this car even before installation. So when does the compressor kicks in, I do not know. I also do not observe any light dim or power loss. Now still afternoon. How to check light is brighter now or not leh? TBC
3) Reduce sudden car slow down when you rev and at the same time Air Cond compressor pumping - No feel on this car even if no installation. So this one can ommit.
4) Increase battery life span - Too early to tell
5) Improve ICE audio clarity and bass because your AMP needs clean and stable voltage - Same comment as number 4
6) Engine turns to be quieter and lower vibration because the power from spark plug is enough and misfire is reduced - Same comments as number 3
7) Increase engine life span by reduce carbon residual inside your engine chamber and also increase engine performance - Too early to tell
8) Increase life span of car ECU, Car Player, AMP, and other electrical or electronic components - Too early to tell9) Improve Fuel Consumption - Too early to tell
10) Easier morning start up crank - Will test in the morning. TBC
11) Lighter throttle - Will need to run full course. TBC

I have been considering for quite some time, over the weekend (2 days, including yesterday 3 days). tongue.gif rclxms.gif

I just want a more comfy car. Not a kao kao performance car. If the electronics work better and is the throttle respond improved, it will be easier for me to follow cars in traffic jam.

Prior to this I have noiced that the 'piggy back effect' (not sure if this is the name) on throttle (during car stop start), where you step on throttle, there is a space in the accelerator which does not do anything if you do not step far enough. So this blank space is an annoying variable when you are in traffic jam. You press too light, car not moving as required. You press too hard, car move too fast and you need to brake hard when the car in front of you stops.

Since the 2.0 is a wire driven throttle, it is different from cable driven. Cable driven can just tighten the cable and piggy back effect gone. I have also came across one free mod on Forte Forum where you adjust the throttle to a max position and the effect will be gone. I have check my car, throttle is already at max position.

You might say save money on this and mod other things. I just wanted to try this first, at least the grounding will do good background work for electronics, performance aside. All reviews after installing I will share after I have tested out. Do not want other members to waste money if this is of no use. From V1 to now, no review on this mod.

I hate electricals, hence I do not take up electrical studies when I had the choice. But besides mechanical, electrical efficiency is important to get a higher efficiency modern car. Well, this is just an excuse to rationalise my purchase. Hehe.

So, would like to suggest maybe it's a good idea if the Admin/Mod can update the battery info (size & model) on the 1st page. It would be very helpful I guess.

Actually 2.0 should be more than enough power to drive around city street

If I plan to get a second car, how do I know whether it is new or old model? It is year 2012 registration.

Do you mean, you want to get a used Forte year 2012? Year 2012 is most probably the facelifted model with 6-speed transmission.

However, there are a few tell-tale features to look out for in the new 6 Speed. Firstly, the side mirror indicator is LED type, gear type is leather wrapped at the base, and not the gate-type which is specifically for 4 Speed. The front fog lamp for the facelifted model (6 speed) is trapezium shape and not diamond shape.

I did not complain about the 'power' sweat.gif . I am looking for fine tune smoothness in driving which adds to my comfort. VS is not a turbo kit which gives you the speed feel.
