SOTD - Mon Patchouly by Ramon Monegal

I was given a sample to test (thanks to Astroboy22) and wow, this is really good. I usually cannot take oakmoss but this one is added at just the right amount to give an edge to it. The patchouli and jasmine with a touch of oakmoss in this work really well in harmony to create a wonderfully blended scent. IMO, this one is definitely a unisex scent but leaning towards feminine side. It does remind me of classic women fragrances. Very good projection on my skin for the first couple of hours. Just be careful where you spray it as it may be a bit harsh at the opening. It gets 4 out of 5 from me. I like it!

BTW, BBW has just added a new line of fragrances from L'OCCITANE.

SOTD - Eau Sauvage Parfum by Dior
http://parfumfetiche.com/2013/08/31/esp

SOTN - Zum Mist Frankincense & Myrrh by Indigo Wild
Frankincense and Incense, I always thought they smelled the same. Frankincense is aromatic, balmy and slightly lemony while incense is smoky (burning incense).

was caught up with work n study... finally got some free time to post.... first and foremost i wanna say thank you to bro astroboy for the gorgeous samples...

finally give one of them for a full wear... Frapin 1697

1 word to describe this... COGNAC!!!!!!!! overall impression is you spilled a cup of cognac over ur body... very boozy, masculine....

thank god i got Pure Malt - a sweet whisky, which is my signature boozy scent at this moment, if not i will sell my kidney if i have to, in order to get this sucker frapin....

According to Fragrantica, the notes are:
Top: French Labdanum, Pink Pepper, Rum, Atemisia
Mid: Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, clove, cinnamon, Hawthorn, Dried Fruits, Rose
Base: Musk, Patchouli, Cedar, Vanille, Amber , Tonka Bean

What do i get:
Opening blast of thick, creamy cognac, it is a strong boozy start. Wear this to work, your boss look at u for sure lol.. and time goes, the scent slowly evolve into a woody tone and get sweeten a little by vanilla... however the cognac stays, it just get weaker and hide behind other notes yet still distinct that you still can smell it.

The nose behind it is my fav perfumer - Bertrand Duchaufour, the in-house perfumer of L'artisan. There are ppl talking that 1697 drydown resembles another of his masterpiece - Vanilla Absolument, another boozy bourbon vanilla scent. Well i have no idea as i never try tat b4. but then if it is true, i might go for Vanilla absolument as it is more friendly towards my pocket.

Projection - mild (5")
Longevity - Good solid 6-7 hrs

Would i get a full bottle?
No at this very moment.... USD200 for a 100ml EDP + Weakening MYR = big no no... Sweet whisky from Pure Malt still manage to wow me everytime when i spray it on...

Alternative to this:
Given a steep price point, there are several choices if you want a boozy liquor scent. A*Men Pour Malt (Sweet whisky), Guerlain Homme Intense (mojito), Vanilla Absolument (Rum bourbon Vanilla), Idole by Lubin (Rum), Virgin Island Water (Malibu)

Based on my previous shopping experience for designer frags at Lucky Plaza and Beauty Language, the answer is yes if not the same using BBW as benchmark.

I thought you're still a fragaholic? Hahah

went to sg last week and managed to smel the legendary spirituese double vanille by Guerlain (yes, tangs there has tom ford and guerlain exclusives) and IT IS MINDBLOWING!! (That is, if you are a huge vanilla fan). Jean Paul Guerlain created this scent based on what he smelled in a sundry store in madagascar during one of his visits to Guerlain's vanilla farms. The scent starts off with natural vanilla...so it is quite soft and toned down. However, a few hours later, its true colors emerge and a strong mixture of booze, spice and incense boosts the vanilla without distorting it too much. And it stays that way for the rest of the day.

if you think eau duelle is a good vanilla scent, this one makes eau duelle smells like bodyshop's vanilla.

Haha.. Envy your experience there smile.gif

but then with the USD250 price tag...

Vanilla Absolument is a good alternative and cost half of SDV

i dont really like vanilla as the main protagonist in my perfume, rather prefer them to act as supporting role, blend all notes together, sweet n smooth...

expresso, bitter, dark coffee. not the sweet one. probably what happens if i rubbed coffee beans on my neck XD that kinda smell. Yohji is actually still too sweet for me (had the sample) hmm. Givenchy play intense huh? the last time i smelled it it smelled like dior homme and l'instant de guerlain's retarded baby. gonna try it again sometime.

for me, vanilla is a very interesting scent to capture as it has many facets, coupled by the fact that scents that use actual vanilla is rare and hard to find as most scents use benzoin (expensive scents) or vanilin (....body shop vanilla) to mimic vanilla. If you have smelled actual vanilla essence before or actual vanilla pods before, you'll know that the scent is very different and very complex compared to vanilin, although it is not strong at all.

Interesting. I've sniffed Madagascar vanilla pods before and it does remind me of the vanilla from Chanel AHEB but I just can't take Le Male. Vanilla in Vanille & Narcisse by L`Occitane is quite nice too although it's a different vanilla scent I get.

Are you into single note scents too? Currently I'm digging amber, frankincense and myrrh.
