To me Bali is not really the food...I dun really enjoy the food either except the Jimbaran seafood dinner...The babi guling as others said hard & nothing compare to local siu yuk..& food in Kuta is not cheap! unless u willing to eat at those dirty warong at popies lane 2.

The uniqueness of Bali is on it's culture, history & also sight seeing not available in M'sia such as Uluwatu, Kintamani, unique hindu temples (In M'sia u can only see the base of the ancient fallened hindu temples at Lembah Bujang Kedah), & the living museum of old Malay lifestyle before conversion to Islam...That's the uniqueness of Bali..& not the food, modern cities & etc....For those going there expecting modern city, nice food & sight seeing wth less than 2km away from Hotel..u definitely going for dissapointment...U should have chosen Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok or other modern city rather than Bali biggrin.gif

You can get it even cheaper if you are traveling in 2 to 3 people. Its bcoz he'll be driving his own car suzuki karimon (need not paying car rent). Size slightly bigger than kenari. Ideal for 2 person with some space left for luggage

How many days u spent over there? What I really concerned is the weather in Bali.
Coz I'll be going in less than 3 wks time, and the raining season supposed to start in
Nov. hope my trip in Bali won't be spoil by the rainfall, thanks god bless me.

Can't be said that way, I agreed on some such as the crispy duck and babi guling which is not to my liking compare to siu yuk, char siu and the peking roast duck. Pricey but how often you see people serve siu yuk to your plate straight for the whole pig next to it. Jimbaran is pricey and my meal at don't know which restaurant cost me rm300+ for 2 person. Its recommended by Wayan assigned driver Kadik. I suggest just order their set dinner. Its much cheaper.

Taste rather dull and plain but the scenery make up for it.

I tried their nasi lauk which is a local food and I like it (very similiar to malay style nasi lauk, white rice with lots of dishes to choose from satay babi and their sambal is thumbup.gif ) cost me rm5 with vege+chicken+egg+mee sedap. Its rich in spices and affordable. Of all the meal I had in Bali, this is the second meal beside warung made where the dish cleaner need not wash the plate (I finish the food.......all of it). I also found out that mee sedap is also one of the dishes which can be serve with rice.

I also tried their pisang goreng + many type of ubi and balinese eat this with cili padi. I still prefer our pisang goreng but I like their tofu goreng and their ubi goreng.

Bali is a heaven for people that like spicy food. I don't really like their duck but I love the sambal. Its the sambal that I manage to finish half the duck. Its also the sambal that save my meal in jimbaran.

Warung Made accept CC and no additional charges. Surprise when most of restaurant in Jimbaran incurred 3% charges. Geneva Handicraft also 3%. Later i found out cash advancement made from the local bank is even cheaper (after plus and minus exchange rate by bank and commision charges by local bank) if you change to rupiah in Malaysia and bring it over to bali. I'm referring to transac made in the bank card center not sure if from ATM.

OMG u really kena slaughtered kaw-kaw at Jimbaran...U probably missed my earlier posting last year regarding Lia Cafe at the end of Jimbaran seafood ctr (The older stall version) The newer & bungalow style along the Jimbaran Beach till the Kedongan fish market I heard all too new, not nice & cut throat!!

My nice seafood dinner for 3 only cost me RM26 only!!! thumbup.gif What I did was to check the pricing from stall to stall & suprisingly the prices varies alot!! The most expensive one are those brought in by drivers/tourist agents such as Ramayana & etc...the deeper one biz very bad but damn cheap..and I hit the target..Although regret at first looking at Ramayana wth lotsa customers & KLia cafe only 2-3 tables full, It turned up that that was the best & cheap food i tasted in Bali thumbup.gif ..no CC & charges just cash as per the receipt below:

p/s: I not dare to say..but I believed the driver hv pakat wth those restaurants for commission and this fact was told to me by Lia Cafe boss & also the staff at my hotel...when I ask for suggestion...They warned me about Ramayana & those newer bungalow style restaurants along the beach...So those going to Jimbaran seafood be warned...dun listen to the driver!!..No wonder the driver so cheap shocking.gif

though I haven't been to bali b4, but I do quite a lot of research coz I'm bringing
10 people along this coming 18/11/08 to 22/11/08. u can refer my itineray on
page 69.

For your case, my suggestion is as below :

Day 1 stay in kuta

Day 2 sukawati - Goa Gajah - babi guling(lunch)- kintamani - pura kehen (since
u skip besakih)- tampaksiring - bebek bengil(dinner) -stay in ubud

or

sukawati - Goa Gajah - Babi guling(lunch) -Tampaksiring - pura kehen-
stay in kintamani to witness the sunrise in Lake Batur.

Day 3 Ubud - Bedugul floating temple - candi kuning market- tmn ayun -
tanah lot - stay in kuta.

Day 4 morning free & easy - after lunch massage (can try murano spa in
seminyak got free pick up from kuta) - nusa dua - uluwatu - seafood
in Jimbaran - stay in kuta.(nearer to airport for your early flight next
morning.

From the roadmap of bali I feel this journey will be smoother and save time.
would like to hear others to comment on this itinerary.

By the way, when are u going?

Yeap, I'm aware of Lia Cafe but i made a mistake when I ask the restaurant to send driver to pick us up from our villa thru and flow FOC. Beside our dishes left other jaws dropping with lobster, crab, dunno what fish, and a squid for 2 person. lolz and I pay even more because I order ala carte.

Through our journey I never encounter with wayan, only his driver kadik driving his karimon. I'll be back to bali definitely, its just my next trip will be either on motorcycle around kuta or rent a car if travel elsewhere. regret didn't try out surfing. Would like to surf in blue lagoon next time.

- Uluwatu (Sunset + Dinner) If ur driver bring u to d restaurant sure kena chop 1. All tipu 1 la sunset + dinner. Nothing special.

Day 4
- Should buy all ur souvenier at sukawati. Is quite cheap there.

Hey guys... I have just back from Bali last month and have blogged my 7 days bali trip in details in my blog with the recommended food, places and accommodations in Bali.

I even did the hiking to Gunung Batur to enjoy the sunrise... and I was told by the tour guide that we were the only Malaysian team that he has ever seen in 20 years time that did the hiking!!

I did diving there too... We have fully utilized our 7 days trip but too bad we ran out of budget and gave up the dolphin trip cry.gif I really love dolphin...

Check out my My Travel and Living Blog thumbup.gif

This was our itenary:

Day 1:

* Arrive Bali at 2:00pm.
* Start looking for hotel or losmen in Legian/Seminyak area. Well, we didn't book the hotel in advance because we were backpackers, must act like a backpacker :-p... kidding... it was mainly because we were going to spend 7 days in Bali, so we tried to get cheap accommodations which might not be able to book online. Moreover, we will be moving around to explore the island as much as we can, so it would be more convenient without attached ourselves to a fix location.
* Visit Uluwatu for sunset.
* Dinner in Jimbaran Beach.
* Night walk at Legian/Seminyak area.

Day 2:

* Check out Legian/Seminyak to Sanur. Sanur is a quiet beach area that we wished to spend some peaceful nights at Sanur.
* Visit Ubud. Ubud is a great place for shopping and relaxing.

Day 3:

* 1:00am early in the morning, start a road trip to Mount Batur.
* 3:00am arrive at Mount Batur, start conquering the volcano.
* 6:00am enjoy the sunrise.
* 12:00pm back to the hotel.
* Evening time visit Tanah Lot for sunset. (Look like we love sunrise and sunset a lot)

Day 4:

* 8:00am check out Sanur heading Padang Bay.
* One morning dive and one afternoon dive at Padang Bay.
* Check in hotel in Padang Bay. Spend a night there after diving.

Day 5:

* Check out Padang Bay, head towards Tulamben.
* Another 2 dives at Tulamben.
* Back to Kuta and look for accommodation.

Day 6:

* Rest and Relax and hunt for nice food in Kuta.
* Explore Kuta area, i.e. shopping.
* Evening, fly kite. It is very important to fly kite at the beach.

Day 7:

* Rest and relax. Enjoy the last day in Bali.

Have a look at it and I hope you guys like my info.

I have all the expenses details that I have spent in Bali too... should serve you as a good reference. Enjoy rclxms.gif

woah man..u really got potong kaw kaw. Yeah gotta agree that prices along the 'main' jimbaran area is exp. Wayan brought us to one the areas, and he told us that the restaurant gives us 20% off (or was it 30%) . prices aint cheap, but we ordered juz nice for 6person's portion, after dividing it's around rm15 each. pretty reasonable. initially we wanted to go to Lia Cafe, but he told us bout the discount, so we would have thought, it will come back to almost the same amount with the discount. 1thing u got 2 b really firm with the driver, tell them u wan something cheap, budget . I think they can't catch hold of the term, so u explain hard, if ur all out for a budget stylo.

If ur around Poppy lane 1, there's cheap food too, if u scout around. We found one nice looking cafe with very very decently price food. I've mentioned it before from my earlier posts, so i'll jus paste it here

''We scouted for food, & we were lucky to come to a cafe called "Bayu IndaH". It's located @ Poppies 1, near La Walon hotel. Nice setting, and most importantly CHEAP FOOD.Here are some of the prices

Nasi goreng babi : RP8000
8PCS Steamed Oyster with rice : RP10000 thumbup.gif
Western food: Fish Chips/ Chicken CHOP/ Tuna Steak/ Snapper Steak/ chicken Schnitzer/ Jambolaya ETC : RP18000-20000
Indonesian food: Gado Gado, Babi Kecap, Something pele etc : RP 8000-15000
FRESH Juices( I mean really fresh juice , not like Malaysia, 1 oren + 1Cup water + 3 Tablespoon sugar)
: orange/banana/papaya/ etc : Mostly Rp5000-7000

& LOADS of other stuffs @ reaonsable prices''

To add, yeah we didn't really like babi guling too, but what the heck, it was touted as one of the must try. Ducky duck was not our thing, so we pass it. On the final free day there, we rented motorbikes and went around kuta. We were stopped by the police there, (as usual la, cari duit kopi) , but we were clean, so they didnt get anything. On the way back, it got dark quickly, and i was finding the way back to kuta. I overshot the white stoppage line @ the traffic light, (i didnt notice the stoppage line was soo much further back than in Malaysia, at the same time i have 2 look out for the directions, and make sure my convoy was not left behind) , & it so happened that, there was a police booth jus right beside it. So, kena la..call to the side of the road, some lectures from them, i know they were hinting something, but i pretend to act dumb. Mentioned " will bring to judiciary, heavy fine etc" . After he finished lecturing, I jus got straight to the point, how much he wanted. Demanded for RPK 100. I was like WTF, told them we were students (I still look young tongue.gif ) . so finally i paid RPK20, and was let off. So for those motorist, do be careful, and make sure u hav proper bike license. But overall, it was a budget trip, and we each spent around rm350-400 (entrance fees, driver, cheap hotel). excluding meals/ souvenirs etc

hehe..i'm taking that bayu indah down as a note for my next visit. seriously i went to jimbaran bay..and yes...the view is good but the food...argh..maybe i went to the wrong place. it's not worth for the food which we ordered...there were crab, fishes, squids but you bet, those in Telok Gong, Malaysia is 100% more fresh and tastier. it's located at the far end of the beach side restaurant (forgotten the name).
although they gave us the discount (coz we asked) of 20%, but we have to wait a real long time.
the cost was RM130 per person (we have 5 persons and we ordered 2 dinner sets)

btw...anyone know where to find crispy duck? i went and had smoked duck from ubud. kinda ok only.

the massage i had was from green garden spa. it's a 'for her' package...comes with basic pedicure (just a gentle feet scrub), body scrub, floral bath, facial (face massage), body massage, tea and brownie, outdoor jacuzzi (just a normal jacuzzi) and steam (in the steam room). the cost is RM 120. massage wise is so-so...ambiance is ... ok ok...but since i'm taking it with my bf so it's great...LOL. very relaxing i'd say.

i think goa gajah is a must too! btw shelynssl, i'm reading your blog..gonna take it as my ref the next time i go also...hehe

btw..i wanna ask, if it's okay to change to rp at the airport? some rates i saw were quite attractive

If you want a reasonable price decent accommodation, I would recommend Pondok Prima at Sanur. It's Balinese cottage style of hotel, clean and cheap. Check out the details at Budget Hotel, my blog. But Sanur is a bit far away from Kuta. The reason we stayed there is becoz it is more quiet. Unless you love the happening place like Kuta.

dear quack...internet connection at Bali was slow like shit! still using the dial up connection and in the same time charge me Rp15,000 (+-RM6) per hour..damn pricey for window98 pc!!!!

Haha... I think one hour RM6 is very good deal... I just came back from Sipadan, they charged RM10 for 15 mins!!

Hi Jenzl, thanks for your visit to my blog rclxm9.gif

I agree with Jimbaran bay, freaking expensive and the food so so only... not worth the price at all... we could definitely get better seafood here in Malaysia.

Regarding the crispy duck, I found the Kuta area normal hawker stalls crispy duck was fantastic... I love it so much.

I don't usually change the money in the airport, I am very sure airport will not give better deal than other places. So far I found that Mid valley money changes giving the best rate.

I agree on Day 2, Uluwatu is really nothing impressive at all. Unless you watch the kecak dance, or else it's just a place to see the cliff with sunset.

Sis,

Wow..Your Bali trip definitely my dream but I can't afford going to those snorkeling & diving sites...super dupper expensive rclxub.gif
BTW, Saw your 520K bill for a simple dinner at Matahar Bumbu Bali...Yeah I noted this new "bungalow" style restaurants too and I hv been warned by hotel staff on those high end restaurants....Super dupper expensive...

Just compare to my earlier posted bill from Lia Cafe...The same fish that cost me 45000 rupiah/Kg is selling at 95,000rupiah..more than double rclxub.gif ..The prawn..OMG 350,000rupiah rclxub.gif u really kena ketuk- kaw-kaw too...In Lia Cafe, king prawn probably around 100rupiah or less!! thumbup.gif ...And I tell u my daughter & wife luv it so much and until Today that cheap & nice dinner still lingering in their mind. biggrin.gif

So for those going to Jimbaran Bay, Please dun ever listen to your driver advices...They all are getting commission from those restaurants!! Go there yourself & check the price from stall to stall at the Old attap style satlls & not those newer bungalow stle restaurants... vmad.gif ...I think those restaurants really spoilt the images of Jimbaran bay.....BTW, the original Jimbaran seafood is at the Attap stile area not those semi-D bungallows style restaurants.. mad.gif ..BEWARE>>

Hi Jenzl, thanks for your visit to my blogĀ  rclxm9.gif

I agree with Jimbaran bay, freaking expensive and the food so so only... not worth the price at all... we could definitely get better seafood here in Malaysia.

Yeah... I knew it was a complete rip-off dining there in Jimbaran Bay... your Lia Cafe is really cheap!!
I wasn't recommended by the taxi driver, I was recommended by most of my friends to dine at Jimbaran Beach!! Exactly the place where I went.

I guess they have increased the prices... it wasn't this expensive last year when my friends went.

anyone tried lobster in jimbaran?...how much are guys getting at for a kg?...i think i got rip off there too...bargain kao kao but still....coz me n my gf were too hungry to go around sumore...the damn taxi driver just drop us there even though we say we want to go sumwhere more to the end...but at least they provide transfer back to kuta for "free"...but the meal was serve quite fast...not very crowded as said...dont need to book in advanced or queue for table...just some reason to make me feel better...haha...

n another thing is they're damn good...when i say i want my price to already include tax...i dont wan to pay any extra tax...they said ok...but they charge tax to my drink...damnnn....like tat also can...

havent tried much must try meal there...only tried made's warung n dulang beside matahari..it's nice..one thing i notice is the driver there usually will hesitate to bring u to eat at the place that the local usually go...when u ask they wil 'eee aaa...local food ah"...then just forget about the question liao...sigh...

whenever bargain with ppl there...be it jimbaran seafood or watersports etc...be precised...else suddenly all hidden charge will come out...try to speak a little malay to them else they'll thought you're a japanese...

anyway...our last 2 days we hire a driver...help us to get local price entrance ticket into tanah lot...haha...quite a friendly driver...

his number is +62-81236129922 name Parta....can give him a try...reasonable price...remember to bargain...haha...

anyway...for me...i would suggest to go with few more friends rather than just couple...i think so coz more ppl help to bargain the more easier..haha...n more ppl more merrier of coz...

though I haven't been to bali b4, but I do quite a lot of research coz I'm bringing

Day 1
- Don't sleep. Should go out. Very happening in Kuta City. Visit Ocean Beach, most happening place to hangout than HardRock.

Day 2
- They said Ratu is very famous for massage. But dun know where is it.
- Uluwatu (Sunset + Dinner) If ur driver bring u to d restaurant sure kena chop 1. All tipu 1 la sunset + dinner. Nothing special.

Day 4
- Should buy all ur souvenier at sukawati. Is quite cheap there.

im reaching 10.00pm, hopefully when reach hotel everything still stays open biggrin.gif
