PUERTO PRINCESA CITY— Military authorities searching for a missing fighter plane of the Philippine Air Force
have confirmed that the OV-10 fixed wing fighter aircraft had crashed in Puerto Princesa Bay early Sunday evening
even as they have yet to determine what happened to the two pilots manning it.
Coast Guard spokesperson Lt. Greaneta Jude told reporters they have located the nose part of the ill-fated plane
floating in the waters just one nautical mile off Puerto Princesa Bay.
“We found debris of the missing OV-10 this morning. Based on the debris that we saw, we can assume that the plane
had crashed and landed in the waters,” Jude said.
Commander Armand Balilo, PCG spokesman, meanwhile, said in a text message that the cargo bay door
of the OV-10 plane (tail no. 360) that went missing was found and retrieved at about 7:10a.m. one nautical mile
from the alleged crash site, or one nautical mile east of Puerto Princesa Airport
The two pilots were not sighted, however. Authorities have declined to release the names of the two missing
pilots as their families have yet to be notified.
The Coast Guard has deployed its SARV 3503, AS 71, and PG 383 for the search and rescue operations.
The plane made its last transmission with Palawan Tower 7:30p.m. Sunday, seven miles after takeoff from
Puerto Princesa Airport.
