uh? no problem from here.

weird :/

the steps i did were:

1. download the iso from plextor;
2. download the uui from pendrivelinux.com;
3. run uui and select unlist iso from the option, then browse to the firmware file;
4. make sure the usb stick was selected;
5. create the usb bootable.

what exactly is your boot option in bios?

Keep me posted if plextor comes up with new firmware. (y)
btw what's ur idle temp for GPU on your R4?

No no my temperature is about 58c avg. (similar to yours; haven't replaced the thermal paste yet) i checked the temperature when it's just turned on. (Also, it's after rain; the room temperature is much cooler)

Wow.. Playing games only elevates 3c?! Thats impressive! Mine normally stays at 74c max.

Maybe you should ask for changing the thermal paste. What is current card?

Not sure dell has 8970m to offer. The thing with after market upgrades for gpu is that modded bios might be needed if the card is not supported natively.

save back your money by buying another HD7970M. the HD8970M is just a rebrand only.

Current card is 7970M. i had the black screen issue last tuesday, then on wednesday the tech came to replace the card. Last night it crashed 2x and the fan is too loud ( like FULL Blast )

I updated the driver to latest 13.11 beta 9.

Im also getting fps drop in dota 2, which is not happening on my previous 7970M.

Maybe will try repaste tonight or downgrade the driver to 13.4 or from dell driver.

yeah that sounded bad. i suggest you take the advice from raymondtong94 and call up dell tech support for possibly another replacement. sorry i have no idea about that 7970m.

by the way, what's the max temperature of your gpu (when the fans go at full speed)?

I think 7970M's a better card. I had problems with my laptop which had 7970M, my replacement laptop had 680M in it biggrin.gif probably they didnt have 7970Mstock that time. But 7970M was a very solid card for me with decent temps too. I believe it's just a little behind 680M but 50% cheaper than 680M

I havent noticed the gpu temp. will check tonight and let you know. idle temp is around 58 which is normal i guess.

But what is not is the way the fan go full blast. my previous card was so quiet.

as for the fan noise, did they change it too previously?

yeah use the warranty service. it's not that you broke it purposely.

yeah 1-yr normally will be quoted much higher. it's better to go for 2 years or more.

different people here sell different warranty packages. Thr r a lot of people over here who offer this service. Maybe try getting quote from all of them and then nego with each party. 780RM for 1 year is a lot though I agree. I remember when I was trying to get some quotes for mine. I dont remember who but I got offered 1100 or 1200 for 2 years. But this was around 1year + back. I never bothered to extend my warranty. I kind of like fixing my own shit lol.

yeah i know. i use discrete gpu without cooling pad all the times. the avg. is about 56c at room temperature.

however, 40c in a 15" with 7970m is pretty impressive. the 660m's idle temperature in my g55 is 48c (in air-cond'ed room somemore)
