the fastest So-DIMM 1.35v RAM currently is 1600MHz.
There's Crucial and Kingston HyperX LoVo.
*
There is this 1866MHz 1.35v crucial ballistix sport, too.

Yes, the GTX7xx cards can be installed into the M17X R4. I initially was supposed to do that, but turns out that I got the go ahead for the AW17 and install my GTX780 inside there. I even have the vBIOS for the installation of the GTX7XX series into the M17x. If you go on forums like tomshardware and techinferno, you can see in their signatures that they're running 780's on the M17x's.
*
Perhaps i am wrong, but i have read from ebay that the 780m they sell are for non-3d models only. I think its better check and verify this part first.

The non 3D is only if you use it with the laptops that are designed for GTX6xx. And it's not that their graphics card does not support but rather that their vBIOS so far does not allow it. More of the software than the hardware. And the graphics card can be used in 3D laptops just that the 3D function will not be able to be used if used on the M17x models. So yes, if you're planning to use 3D, don't buy their cards for the moment because they have not fixed the software issue for it to be used with its 3D function. And I know this because I have emailed them.

But anyway, the GTX770 is not from them but from Dell directly. So no worries there.
*
sweet smile.gif yeah i guess the 770m is fine.

Where did you buy it from and your laptop only allows for the 1.35v RAM's to be used too?
*
i got it from newegg. i got it for my new laptop (not yet decided but it will be a haswell).

but first i wanna try it on my asus g55 to see if my theory is correct. unlike aw, g55/75 is rather picky on rams (e.g. it only allows 2x4gb of 1866MHz to run; for rams with tighter timings like 4x8gb corsair vengeance 1600MHz 10-10-10-27, some laptops worked but many didn't :/; i was lucky to run g.skill 1600MHz 10-10-10-28 at 32gb)

so i think MAYBE low voltage rams such as 1.35V might let me to use this ballistix sport with 9-9-9-24.

Does anyone know if the 1866MHz will work on the AW17 on 32GB?

it said it's compatible (guaranteed?) here.

M18 hmm thinking about SLI? smile.gif

Dunno bro. Or one more think you can look for is to get M18 from over seas and somehow buy local warranty for it?

you can ask Puchotip for that?
*
yeah sli biggrin.gif

correct i can get it from overseas; but it's about local warranty (if it's possible to get local warranty for foreign units? weeks of waiting during rma overseas are no joke :/). when i asked the agents previously they told me dell malaysia only provide warranty support for the stuff they sell.

Puchotip? ok will try to ask him thanks.

It's putochip123. And I don't think there's any local warranty for AW18. Ur unit will be warrantied either under Dell US or if u purchase thru reseller, then it's going to be under the reseller.

If there's local warranty, I might change my mind in getting that but then the price is too IMBA already.  sweat.gif
*
ok.

i think what you said is correct; if i want local warranty i can only go for 17, not 18.

M17 is not bad.. unless you're going to fully utilize the SLI on M18 smile.gif

Oh and check on some reviews before you purchase, people who actually own the new M17 and M18.. (y)
*
yeah. i lack of feedback on 17/18. i have had the parts almost ready (ssd's, caddy, rams, .ac router).

by the way, intel 7260 + asus rt-ac66u are good match. 866mbps all the way biggrin.gif

i dont know if its me or what, but after looking at the AW 17 for a longer time, it can be quite pretty cool.

last time i kept saying it looks ugly. and now there are some changes. blush.gif
*
haha.. it's not ugly. imo it has a better look compared to the previous versions.

But why? The fastest UniFi that we have only goes up to 20MBPS anyway. So doesn't matter if it can go up to 866 Mbps.

so that i don't blame my ap or something not relevant when i do large LAN file transfers biggrin.gif

Oh I see.
When my laptop is connected via wireless to the router and the router is connected to my network drive, am I able to get transfer rates at 400 Mbps?
*
er.. it actually depends on what you're connecting it to in terms of wifi. for instance, if your end point devices support only wireless-b/g/n, it will still stay at that speed. to me i think it's a good idea to invest a bit more for the network infrastructure (we don't buy network switches/wifi ap very often), and set it up properly to cater for your needs.

Hmm, sadly the intel 7260 is only double stream >.< i'll get it in a heartbeat but alas it is the same capability as broadcom that came with AW17 (wireless double streaming AC).

Does AC really improve range? from my read up it does not. From my testing my old 3 stream wifi-N intel 6300 has better range cry.gif

p/s: AW17 Broadcom AC is having trouble with most wireless router (my belkin is having severe timeout problem, my inlaw's basic streamyx router got no timeout problem but latency is 2ms average by pinging). Probably due to most routers are not upgraded with the latest firmware yet  vmad.gif thinking of getting asus ac68u or ac56u when it is available...
*
yeah 7260 is a double stream with bluetooth. i need bt for some devices. i think most .ac wifi adapters in the market currently are using broadcom chip (which match the one in 66u)

QUOTE(jsc_tidus @ Aug 16 2013, 08:12 PM)
does anyone with the new line-up alienware paired it with a bluetooth mouse? trying to pair my razer orochi with my 14 but so far no luck. can do wired only..
*
maybe you can try press and hold left and right side buttons at the same time for a few seconds when your laptop is scanning for devices. i did that and it worked.

The 512GB SSD will be the C drive.
The 960GBx2 will be set in RAID0 configuration and they will be used for keeping my lossless audio files in WAV format. As you can see in my signature, my main passion and hobby is audio. I have been a long time audiophile. The SSD's would be actually utilised for storage and playback of the lossless audio files that I have extracted from a CD. Also in my signature I list the player and the software that I use (JPLAY & jRIVER)

Here is a thread from an audiophile forum regarding the benefits in terms of sound when an SSD is used compared to a HDD.
*
aw17 has 2x hdd bays, 1x odd that can be converted using hdd caddy to hold hdd/ssd, and 1x msata slot. why don't you put your OS in msata?

I will be removing the MSATA and will be placing the 750GB HDD in its place, I need a HDD too as the SSD's have their Read/Write lifespan. So I can use the HDD for more vigorous everyday use. smile.gif

And the 64GB MSATA will be up for sale, as well as the BluRay drive. So if anyone is interested...........  tongue.gif
*
i think you should double check this part about putting the 750gb hdd in place of the msata sdd. the form factors are different (the connectors are also different). even if you can connect the hdd with msata slot (say you have a special adapter for this), i don't think the hdd will fit.

when i saw your purchases, i thought you are gonna make a raid0 with the two hdd bays, put the 512gb ssd in the hdd caddy, and installed the OS only in your stock msata ssd (which is quite small the size imo, but it can be done).

I thought the original components need to keep for warranty sake? I've asked Dell before that they recommend to keep the original components. I thought when u need to take the laptop for warranty, u have to swap back the original components in.
*
yes, i think so, too.

I don't know though cause I have not seen the inside.
But the trusted boys over at Illegear told me that Alienware actually has 4HDD Slots including the caddy from the ODD. the MSATA slot unlike the previous AW's were designed to fit HDD's.

*
ah.. good to know that! smile.gif

edit: yeah i have checked the specifications at dell (http://www.dell.com/support/Manuals/us/en/19/Product/alienware-17). it's stated that the msata slot is indeed for minicard form factor. (i guess the illegear guys know better smile.gif).

minicard form factor is mSATA SSD right?

if I understand it correctly, 1 mSATA and 3 normal size SSD (1 converted ODD) = quad 1tb SSD they were promoting. thats why it's only 256gb each for raid 0 as the biggest msata is currently 256gb?
*
yeah i think so. half-size minicard is our wifi card. the configuration that you mentioned was what i have thought of. the largest of msata ssd should be mushkin's 480gb. it might become cost prohibitive if you put in 4x480gb (4x MYR1,500 is already 6k dy; assuming each is MYR 1,500).
