how come i installed 24gb ram the WEI index showed only 16gb usable?
if i direct swap gpu 675 to 680 do i need to change any setting on BIOS?

Yes its the OS limit. 680m should be supported. You should do nothing.

er.. i have forgotten how w7 runs sorry. no no error. everything is fine. (well at least to me)

the only thing that i tried to get used to is the WEI haha.. it's removed since w8.1.
nice smile.gif
that's what i am  thinking also. at room temperature, i think the most it can go is about 74c iinm. (for cleaned system with replacement of thermal paste)

yup (y) tbh I agree alienware makes more sound on loads and the body gets a bit warm but compared to my G55... the temp used to get high but fan speed slow and body not that warm. For me the actual temp of the GPU matters more smile.gif

I think anything below 85 is considered good for GPU right?
*
88C is the max recommended temperature for a GPU to withstand. anything higher than that needs appropriate cooling.

Yeap I heard the same too. 90 is like.. better clean and reapply thermal. Oh and if you're using HP laptop... temps are usually SO high after doing everything. They have thermal design flaw. Hate HP notebooks anyway.. over priced crap.

for common usage, aw m17x r4 is not loud at all. yeah it gets warm on loads, but it's tolerable (just don't go and put your hands on the areas around the power button or the back of the laptop biggrin.gif)

g55 is a 15.6". comparing to the laptops of the same range, it's not bad. (it has a much smaller heatsinks, compared to 17").

for publlic awareness, i think it's better to stick to 85c as an indicator to do cleanup of cooling system for laptops. normally a cleaned system will not reach that point. and for 17" aw laptops, cleaning up is a simple task.

damn. the firmware update usb stick for plextor m5m got stuck after i have confirmed to upgrade the firmware :/ (it does nothing after that) (r4 bios a12, a13 are the same)

it worked fine for g55. i suspect it's the uefi thing. i have even tried to turn off uefi boot and runs only legacy, but still no luck :/

Hmm. Did you format the stick 'fat32'? try?
Yeap I have upgraded the Bios. It is the same but it was mentioned in the windows 8.1 drivers area. So I downloaded it anyway lol.

Plextor came with new firmware? hmm I got plextor in my zenbook.

have to do that way. the m5m in my g55 got upgraded seamlessly :/

why didn't the plextor firmwares are created to run on windows? (i have checked out the oem firmwares released by dell for m6m (oem). it does has the windows firmware updater ://

edit: surprisingly, i have tried to patch my m5pro. the firmware tool worked for these ssd's! something is wrong with the m5m firmware tool?

i use usb method. (pendrivelinux.com uui; works fine)

side note: out of curiosity, i extracted the ssd updater files from the firmware iso. it's just a isolinux bootable iso that loads freedos via memdisk. the freedos in turns launches the executable ssdflash.exe via autoexec.bat.

i suspect that the associated firmware updater, ssdflash.exe, or related files are the culprit.

in boot option, set to legacy (you can also set to uefi, but turn secureboot off and turn legacy rom or something like that on; save the changes), then press f12 and select usb stick.

after update, set it back to the usual.

Still the same error. It IS booting from usb but it gives that error. Is the ISO file faulty? I tried redownloading also.

uh? no problem from here.

weird :/

the steps i did were:

1. download the iso from plextor;
2. download the uui from pendrivelinux.com;
3. run uui and select unlist iso from the option, then browse to the firmware file;
4. make sure the usb stick was selected;
5. create the usb bootable.

what exactly is your boot option in bios?
