guys need your help , i have an m17xr4 , the power brick is 180 watts. Whenever the laptop is turned on i am not able to use the power brick , when i plug it in the power bricks light seems to turn off and windows does not detect the charger so its running on battery.

The power brick will only work if once the laptop is off. plugged charger and turn on laptop then only the power brick would work. Let say if i unpluged it and plug it back on it wont work.

Help me please.

might be a faulty brick you have there. i would suggest you to try contact Dell and see what they can do.

hi, has anyone plug in external speaker with subwoofer to test the bass?
I think our alienware 14 got defect in its sound system. It has close to 0% bass when i plug into external speaker for testing not to mention internal subwoofer as well.

dell said that they will be sending someone to replace my power brick

i somehow think it has to do with OS or driver issues

seems like when i plugged it in , my laptop cant detect it or something and the adaptor lights immediately went off

anyway im using m17xr4 , my powr brick is 180 , is 240 better ?

anyway not sure now when they are going to send someone since today is public holiday maybe tomorrow?

wanna ask you guys if the repair guy comes can i ask him to install additional RAMs that i bought since i so lazy to dissasemble to place the memories below the keyboard , if they install for me will they charge me ?

one more , last time i heard someone in forum lowyat offering cheaper option to extend alienware warranty iinm its plutochip ? the offer still stands ? how much to extend ?

thank you sifus first time using alienware here appreciate your help, really like my laptop a lot

Well, my AW 17 works fine with my 7.1 setup. No problems whatsoever. Urs is 2.1 or 5.1? What I noticed that the 3 ports are configured like this, 1 for front left/right, 1 for center and subwoofer and 1 for surround speakers. So what I assumed is that ur speaker has the green jack only and it is plugged into the front left/right port without subwoofer cable. The software only allows u to do either stereo or surround setup and there's no option for 2.1. Have u tried googling about the workaround or is there actually one?

I think just try the replacement power brick first. From my POV, I don't think it is the OS at all.

Obviously the more power wattage the better. This will come in handy when u upgrade to newer graphics card or OC. About RAM installation, it depends on the individual. If the person is kind hearted, most likely he'll do it for u.

About warranty extension, I think u should ask putochip123 about the price.

Thanks for the feedback , am very lazy to open everything just to add RAM since its not your normal conventional RAM slots on every other lappy.

How do i get a hold of an M18xR4 anyone ?

you don't need to tear everything down to access just those slots. you stock ram should be installed under the keyboard. so your free slots are just under the back cover. (2 screws and 1 slides from you).

Thanks thats good to know , its just that i saw some videos on youtube and their stock RAMs seems to be at the bottom and the free slots are under the keyboard. Is there any other specific way to know where it is instead of opening it . CPU Z says my 2 RAMs are in slot 1 and slot 3.

er.. there is a much simpler way to check it. just pop up your back cover and have a look. you will not miss the ram slots.

Oh. Although access to slots under keyboard is also easy, you can ask for help from dell tech.

Ok, I hope it helps. It's actually not in Alienware audio software. It is in Windows Sound. Look for Playback devices and setup ur audio setup there. thumbup.gif

HAHAHA!!! No la... Don't say like that. Ur laptop is fine. It's just Alienware's configuration that's the problem.

P/S: I googled the answer online. Didn't thought of it in the first place also. sweat.gif

If doesn't work, then I'll try to search again cos I myself also wanna know how to do it. biggrin.gif
