user posted image Nexus 4 Proud Owner List

Instructions:
To add yourself to the owner list, fill in the form [CLICK HERE]
To view detailed owner list, view the spreadsheet [CLICK HERE]

The owner list in this thread will be occasionally updated, based on the speadsheet (Credits to tcmean for the spreadsheet & form)

Note: Names added between 19 - 23 January 2013 are mostly lost tracked. Check the spreadsheet here to see if your name is in there. If not, just re-add your name by filling in the form.

Note#2: All the duplicated entries in the spreadsheet will be treated as one (e.g. multiply entry for a single LYN username).

Note#3:Please only add your name into the list ONCE, even if the side-infos (e.g. Bootloader unlocked? Rooted? ROM? Kernel? CPU binning? Hardware version) are inaccurate, it doesn't matter as long as your entry is there. Duplicated entries will only incur more works to the thread starter. Your cooperation is much appreciated!

Total of 315++ proud owners and it's still growing strong..

Gotta give LightManager a try soon, since it's free as opposed to Light Flow (free version limits functionality sweat.gif)

The earpiece seems to be overpriced IMO, might as well as spending it on other earpieces laugh.gif

Depends on what you need. Do you want the extra functionalities offered in custom ROMs (e.g. T9 Dialers in some AOKP ROMs, etc); or do you prefer staying stock and not having to do any extra work (e.g. to flash, to download and flash again, etc). It's all up to your preferences tongue.gif

But I do recommend flashing custom kernels tho, in order to slightly improve battery life by undervolting.

Nevertheless, it might be a good idea to unlock your bootloader first if you're unsure whether to proceed or not (since unlocking will wipe every data in your device, might as well as do it early when there aren't much data residing in it).

nah.. both should be the same. The only difference is either your warranty is under LG or under the shop who sold you the phone. But if you ask me, I would take the Original LG set. Since you can straight away just send it to LG. instead of AP in which you'll have to wait for the shop to send it to their factory. But well, each person has their own preference, its up to you in the end

and what's the reason? Just because of the name? Or because you've had bad experiences with LG? I think you should always put the brand name aside, and try the product itself first.

Phone has been great. Been using ti for about 2 months. better than my samsung and htc. I can tell you that.

I used to be like that also. Only want HTC. But after getting the sensation, I got pissed at the development so I got the GN. I hated samsung, but it was a nexus. It was good, same thing with N4. I hated LG. But seriously, the Nexus line is amazing. No matter what manufacturer.

GN is quite slow compared to the N4. As long as you dont touch any high end Android phone when you get the GN, the GN would seem fast.

Do you know how much is the price bro? Can get it from LG outlets?

I'm pretty sure you can, but you'll have to pay a hefty price. I paid 1300 for 16gb. AP unit tho. Not really important to me. They gave me a 1 year warranty. More than I would ever need.

1300 is reasonable! No reason not to get it. Hmm I guess I should check the price first. Most probably getting it!

yes but 1300 is the AP device. The ones with Malaysian warranty is 1400+ if I'm not mistaken.

The lowest I saw for LG Malaysia is 1450 if I'm not mistaken.

It's about luck I guess, I've bought ap and it has no problem for me at all. laugh.gif so pray hard on whatever you wanna buy.

it is same like other tpu case just clear back cover that make it attractive. but with full cover on power and volume button makes it feel weird. depend on individual preference. for me, i'm ok with the button feel.

For me Waze is the best, since Google navigation isn't working. What's great about waze is the community based live traffic reports, rerouting based on road conditions and etc.

By default it's using the fastest time route (highway or main roads). I hardly see it suggesting me off or weird routes laugh.gif

Usually the route suggested same like Google one. Also can select another route (if available) if you dislike the current route.

Maybe he changed the navigation setting or opted to avoid highways / tolled roads tongue.gif, never had such issues (will use the fastest route which is usually the highway) on default setting.

Where exactly can I see the review unit in Selangor / KL area?

SenQ don't have http://www.senheng.com.my/smartphones/1228...xus4-black.html
I've go to several SenQ store, and they really don't have now, so please please don't tell me SenQ sad.gif

I googled LG Centre, and I got this http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/389307/all

Please no ah beng ah seng booth store, because you know they won't allow us to test unit without buying it. I only want to hold the device and look on it personally rather than seeing the pictures on internet all the time.

I find that nexus product are extremely rare to find so if anybody knows the specific location on where I can do hands on on the review unit, please tell me? thanks biggrin.gif

Try checking some Digi stores. I went to a Digi store in Sunway Pyramid before and saw a Nexus 4 being one of their showcased handphones. Tried it out and that made me even more interested in the Nexus 4 biggrin.gif

Most of the time the crack happens if the phone is dropped from bad angle or great height.. but so far most of us have (yet) to crack our screen (hopefully not now and never will tongue.gif)

Zero contract no more, but if you plan to terminate-on-the-spot, the price is still the same. Check first page FAQ's for current calculation; and first page's Information Archive (post#10) for previous DiGi Zero Contract's calculation.

if you want a local LG set, as long as it comes with LG Malaysia warranty card you are good to go. I am not sure on the latest price at Hotspot, but if you do a search at Lelong or LYN, cheapest ori LG Malaysia set should be around 1.4-1. 5k.

I dropped to a ceramic floor in a room while sitting, and the back cover had one fine crack... from the back LED all the way to the right edge. Just use a case or bumper, can minimize the damage.

I dropped it naked, so yeah.

Nope. Using SwiftKey now and ever; although I hate the fact that they took so long and yet Chinese PinYin support is still unavailable. Even Korean is now supported doh.gif

Checked online, all are 24 months contracts.

Check the FAQ, you can terminate on spot. But actually not worth getting from digi now. You can just buy a unit outside, LG Malaysia unit for about the same price without the hassle to sign and to terminate contract with digi.

Haha true. During jam hours I usually use their weird routes (e.g using residential roads to ss2 instead of all the way with ldp which are usually packed during peak hour tongue.gif)

As for the keyboard, i kinda love swiftkey suggestions and learning ability.. That's the only reason kept me using swiftkey lol.

Just an alternative. That app allows you to use Proximity (proximity is the main part) but also offers gesture to lock/unlock.

I don't own nexus 4. No guarantee. Just suggesting. Why don't you try it out wink.gif

This app is really good for flip case user. Too bad. I don't like flip case.

For this kind of gesture to work you need extra functions in kernel.
Google does not provide this function in stock kernel & Android due to patent issue.

*
Some third party ROM modify the stock app to suit their ROM.So to prevent the force crash the ROM create will recommend you not to restore system app.
Another reason is prevent fc from your previous ROM to repeat in newest ROM.

But let's say if you're using CM10.1 nightly & you want to upgrade from nightly build of 3 days ago to todays build,IMO there won't be much issue if you restore system app.

SwiftKey kaki here.
IMO learning keyboard is batter than predictive keyboard.Because we Malaysians use more than 1 languages. It's good to have a keyboard that can learn from our own past typing and use the pattern to suggest relevant words.

Google's stock keyboard is good in predicting pre-programmed words but but does not support good learning pattern.

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Report-clai...support_id42157

IMHO Nexus 4 have 4 issue. No pun intended.
1.LTE Support
2.Low storage size
3.Battery life
4.OTG support.

2 issue will be solved if Google did release newer Nexus 4.However the 4th issue will never be solved because it'll require LG to revise the SOC & logic board design.
Ah well, there's no perfect.Wait for next Nexus phone to see whether all the issues solved.

You can use stock rom but need to flash third party kernel. The extra module needed in order to make the gesture work is unavailable in stock Android 4.2.2 kernel.
If you're afraid of using some unknown kernel the Touch Control developer himself provide a modified kernel which essentially the stock kernel with added gesture modules. You can use that.

LTE is important because I'm hoping with the extra bandwidth our telcos will start to offer data plan with higher data cap with more reasonable price.Currently I'm using around 2GB+ per month.
16GB is ok if you can manage. But it'll start to cause headache when you want to store more videos and install graphic intense games which tends to take large amount of storage space.
Battery life is decent it need to be improved. Other higher end Android devices which comes with similar battery spec as Nexus 4 have better battery consumption than Nexus 4.
OTG support is doable but as I said before it'll require some logic board revision. It's something related to the Qualcomn APQ SOC.APQ SOC do not have integrated modem. However the SOC can power up external parts.LG choose connect the SOC with external modem instead of ic's which support external 5V power output.
Some claim this was done to keep the production cost down.
There are some APQ8064 SOC based devices supporting OTG functions out there. The OEM's might use different method to designing their logic board with the SOC.

But yeah, enough with the OTG.No regular user really care about the OTG mumbo jumbos and the technical details.

Guys, i might be buying this phone. Got a few question, how long does it take for this phone to get warm when playing games? For example real racing 3.

How's the call quality? Is it loud & clear? And regarding the camera lens, is it easy to get scratch? I heard there is a new tweak design right? New camera lens and got small nubs at the back right? Malaysia unit now got this new version right?

And i just wanna know random battery life from u guys, how is it? Thanks guys. Cant wait to return to android bandwagon again. biggrin.gif

Usually will get warm in 10~15 minutes. But different people have different perception / view of "warm", so...

As for call quality, no problem whatsoever so far so I guess it's clear enough.

For camera lens, if you're worried about scratching; get an aftermarket screen protector on the back which covers the camera lens (e.g. Nillkin Dual).

And finally for battery life, the best is visit all the previous old threads (link available in first page, first post) and search for the keyword "battery life". Many users including myself had posted their statistics which you can view and judge.

Around 15 minutes.Never really care about the heat.

Call quality is always good.Cell reception is good but as good as my previous S2.
Then again my S2 was legend in cell reception. There was 1 the DiGi cell tower in my hometown was knocked out due to some cable theft. While all the phone in my house didn't have cell reception for 2 days,my S2 had single bar continuously.Plactic body FTW!

Not sure when Malaysia will get the new design of Nexus 4.Might take a while because the Nexus 4 isn't a hot sell in Malaysia.

Battery is ok.You'll get through a day if you're a regular user.

Learn slowly and read up slowly
You don't need to root/flash any kernel-rom to use the phone

But yeah, enough with the OTG.No regular user really care about the OTG mumbo jumbos and the technical details.

it's based on the lg optimus somethingsomething. It could be they were rushed, or they didn't feel like removing it since they've built the devices already. Apaprently they're releasing the 4G version soon.

No worries - you can easily lock back and unroot it. Unlike Sony, HTC locking back bootloader will still void warranty as phone IMEI is recorded in their servers and no way you can hide previous unlocking

Nexus 4 is based on LG Optimus G.
And yes, to cut cost used the similar logic board with same SOC as Optimus 4.Part of the reason why the LTE won't work properly because lack of LTE signal amplifier. It's not Google intentionally hid the LTE function. It's just won't work as a proper LTE device.
Even if you enable LTE I don't think you can connect it to Malaysian telco's LTE.Also since the device itself lack the amplifier your signal reception will be spotty & can cause your battery consumption to increase.

Your superuser is the old superuser or the new superuser?
Most developer is moving to superuser back from supersu. Some problem with supersu causes this. Didn't really deep into this but remember seeing it somewhere... The new superuser got a new icon not the original black/green icon.

1) now, i've backed up all my user n system apps by using titanium backup, and if i to flash update my PA rom, i need to swipe both cache and delvik right? does this mean everything will be wiped out inside my phone?

2) if all of it is wiped out, does this means my titanium backup app too? i did read that the backup will be stored inside the internal SD card, some said that upon flashing a new rom or updating rom the titanium backup is not wiped out? quite confused already actually sweat.gif

To flash update, just wipe cache and dalvik cache. As their names suggest, it's just "Cache". Nothing will be done to your data.

A little summary
1) Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache: It's like caching your apps for better performance, faster launching etc. Wiping this will not do any harm except the next time you boot up, it'll say... "Android is upgrading... XX of XXX Apps". You can try to do this without flashing anything. Just a waste of time though. But DON'T SKIP THIS STEP FOR DIRTY FLASH.

2) Factory Reset: Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache/User Apps/Any Apps Data BUT NOT User data (your photos/documents/apk/backup files etc). But all the apps data are wiped. Your phone are like out from factory albeit your data is still intact

3) Wipe System/Format System Partition: Wipe ROM. Wipe this and you can't boot up your phone because there's no OS in your phone. Totally clean. But it won't wipe user data either. It's like formatting the HDD Partition on your PC containing your Windows laugh.gif

To wipe your userdata,
1) Flash factory image: Doing this will wipe every single thing and restore your phone to the state when you first bought it. Whole phone is clean.
2) Wipe/Format SD/Data/Can't remember what it's called: This is the one that formats your internal storage, all user data will be gone.

Then... for flashing
1) Dirty flash: For the purpose of updating ROM from one developer, with the same name normally (ROM's name). Better if the dev confirmed that you can dirty flash. Boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, flash ROM/Gapps. Reboot then you'll undergo "Android is upgrading thingy". Nothing is wiped. User data/Apps data all intact

2) Clean flash: For the purpose of changing ROM, going from Stock to Custom ROM or if you've got bunch of time, you can do this everytime the ROM updates. Boot into recovery, "factory reset", wipe system (optional, some dev asked to wipe), flash ROM/Gapps, wipe cache/dalvik (optional but I've tried few times bootloop if I flash without wiping cache/dalvik after I flash the ROM, not sure what's the cause but I've been doing this for quite some time)

Hehe... I think that's what you need to know.

Do whatever with your phone, should be quite hard to brick a nexus device. Just DON'T FLASH THE WRONG ROM FOR THE WRONG DEVICE eg: Flash Galaxy Nexus ROM into Nexus 4 tongue.gif

You will need the warranty card to show to LG when you claim warranty.

orait..that's really helpfull..meaning, if i wanted to update my rom, all my previous apps will still be intact right..just like updating windows 8 forexample..the purpose of using titanium backup is more practical when i wanted to change other roms which needed me to perform clean flash..am i right?..

To be safe, keep a backup also.
I normally at least keep TiBa for normal updates. Nandroid for major update/clean flash/switching ROM.

You can choose either to post back the warranty card to LG or register the warranty through online (www.lg.com/my). But both must be done within 14days.

I don't think LG really care about this warranty registration. I know some people managed to claim warranty without knowing the existence of this warranty card or the online warranty registration.

Hey guys, proud new owner of the N4 here. Everything about this phone is perfect. Holding off rooting for now though, since there's a high possibility Key Lime Pie is going to be announced at the Google I/O in 3 weeks (fingers crossed!).

On a sidenote, I also highly recommend this case if anyone is looking for one: http://www.rearthusa.com/google-nexus-4-hybrid-fusion-case

I have it on my N4. Nice fit, while giving good protection and letting you see the back of the phone. biggrin.gif

Running on Xylon v2.50 (April 18) and Franco r125.

14% left after almost 24 hours and just over 2 hours SOT. Mostly on wifi with some data usage as well. I turned off both wifi and data for a few hours because I didn't want to be disturbed during that time.

Somehow, my GPS ended up taking the most of my battery with almost 13 hours of usage EVEN THOUGH I only had it on for a max of half an hour. Me thinks it's just a software bug and it wasn't actually turned on. Who knows though lol.

Messenger also kept my phone awake for almost 50 minutes without reason. I don't think I even used it throughout the day lol.

Pretty happy with this combination though. Probably the best in terms of battery life as far as wifi goes in my experience. Will test it out on full data (if possible) today.

EDIT: Oh and err, what are your best results in terms of SOT and total battery life on full data? Need something to benchmark against.

I hate current phone design, phone manufacturer should think of beauty & durability.
no matter how slim it is, we still need to add a thick protection case, and it will cover the design of the phone.

Go for TPU cases! They absorb shocks better. I have had multiple experience of the phone falling down, but all good so far. I have to say that the official bumper is doing pretty well, I have dropped it twice on the tarmac with the bumper, and thank god all is well.

And +1 on the phone design. N4 is having a mixed reputation because of its fragility. Still the best phone that I have ever bought, well after the G1

For this kind of specs, its not weak, some people using HTC butterfly only can get 1 hour SOT,so our nexus 4 is considered very good already

Nice fit, while giving good protection and letting you see the back of the phone. biggrin.gif

Bro would you mind to take a picture of your phone with the cover? I wanna see how it protects the front side. I'm planning to get this case too. Good shock absorption?

CM was great for stock usage with minimal modification ... ROM like Carbon and Liquid have more UI modification than CM. I personally prefer stock AOKP by Whitehawkx

You got some wake lock problem. If you rarely use location related apps (GPS, check in etc), suggest you to turn off location services. For messenger, disable its location service too. Maps, if rarely used, disable it in System Settings (Not Maps setting), which is similar to freezing it. Only unfreeze when you need it.

Looking at your stats, 2 hours screen on is really very weak. 2 hours SOT is easily achievable on WiFi with over 24 hours run time even on Galaxy Nexus (I don't have Nexus 4 mah~~ tongue.gif) Nexus 4 is better at battery especially after flashing custom kernel (according to my friend). Quite much difference compared to stock.

If you have purchased the apps, you can simply re-install them via Play Store (data will not be there tho). But how come paid apps isn't backed up by the toolkit? Shouldnt nandroid backup be a complete full backup? blink.gif

As for me I hardly use the nandroid backup as I've had lots of issues with it on my previous attempt on my old phone (Desire HD). Thus, usually I'll just use MyBackupRoot and backup all the apps & data (if I'm rooted; there's one specific app to backup apps data for non-rooted devices but I forgot the name.. it was mentioned a few times in the thread but I'm too lazy to crawl back for now blush.gif)

Then I'll proceed with flashing, or any other stuff as usual and then restore the apps with MyBackupRoot without any issues as per mentioned. But then again these are based on my old phone as I'm not really motivated to flash ROMs in my N4 tongue.gif

You didn't backup your stock snapshot by generating a nandroid ?
maybe you can follow xda thread to restore it to stock completely.
Check at xda , return to stock.

I'm currently trying and learning to theme my Home Screen in which one of it is to create a skin for UCCW. Based on this UCCW skin:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...bearblanc&hl=en

Anybody know of how to exactly do that skin? I meant the sliding part. How do you make it so that a certain bar can hide and slides out when needed in UCCW?

Hi guys, my nexus 4 sometimes have this problem, while charging it will boost like 10 or 15 % in a spike.

As shown in the screenshot below. Is this a sign my battery is not doing well already? Only 3 months using it sad.gif

if you kernel only, follow efrant’s guide and flash the kernel only from the factory image. If your custom kernel is doing any modifications to /system as well, you can flash the system.img as well.

that's because of the unstable current which suddenly flows in and caused a confusion on the phone. tongue.gif

i've tried that from 5% to 100% in seconds.

no worries, just avoid using that socket, there might be some problems with the socket itself.

A very deep lip to avoid direct contact with the screen.
Hardshell in, rubber out.

CON
WAY TOO THICKKKKKKKKKKKKKK for almost all people. tongue.gif

Serious? I thought they claimed that they won't be making any modification? It's nice to know that they changed!

How about the water spot issue on back?
*
Not sure about them saying that, but I'm VERY sure that the tactile feedback I'm getting from the buttons is definitely a redesign. According to earlier complaints, they can't feel any feedback at all, I'm getting plenty feedback! I also had a very minimal rainbow effect on the back, but that was because of moisture that was trapped inside and the fact that I had a screen protector on the back as well. Took out the case and wiped everything, the rainbow effect went away.

QUOTE(jackdawson765 @ Apr 22 2013, 05:45 PM)
Bro would you mind to take a picture of your phone with the cover? I wanna see how it protects the front side. I'm planning to get this case too. Good shock absorption?
*
I can't tell you about the protection because I'm not going to drop my N4 and test it out, haha. But what I can feel is that the rubber for the case is slightly harder than that you find on normal TPU cases. Being harder, I don't think it would absorb as much impact as TPU cases. It would protect the phone fine for most drops, but for really high drops (head level) I guess you have to keep your fingers crossed. Anyway, here are a few pics:

My mobile and wifi signal logos go grey at times when there aren't any apps accessing it. But as soon as i open up any app, it changes to blue. This isn't always the case though, it's blue around 70% of the time. Fully stock kernel and rom.

No, thats not the Franco kernel. I think that is still the stock kernel. There should be "Francisco" written there if it were Franco. Have you installed a custom recovery? Bcoz you will need custom recovery to do any flashing.

You can either use Franco's own app, Franco Kernel Updater.. or some other apps such as Trickster Mod. But if youre really planning to stick with Franco kernel, then ill suggest you to buy the paid version of Franco Kernel Updater since it also auto-flashes new updates for you biggrin.gif

For the colors, you can use those apps that i suggested, they have a color control options. As for the PIE control, i think those are more to the custom rom's functionality, not custom kernel's

Just last week man, from DirectD. You can find their thread in the Garage Sales section. Not sure if LG Malaysia has brought in the updated design model though, it's best you check that with someone else if you're interested in getting it from LG. biggrin.gif

it's annoying like hell, trying to search in the net but apparently it's quite a common problem with no solution given, I don't feel like messing with the stock rom or anything yet.. It seems like a random firmware fault

you should be in a bootloop then. You shouldn't experience such a long boottime with the n4. Try flashing another rom.

Just get it without the rebate. When DiGi just start selling it ppl use rebate to buy because it saves around 150. Now street price same like buying it with rebate since retail price is 1649. Full rebate 200 also 1450. You can get it in shop for 1450 without rebate. One of the shop is satugadgetdotcom. You can ask them to quote you the price with rebate. Maybe just deduct RM50 or less or even none. laugh.gif

So, Chat Heads don't work properly if your notification bar is hidden. I'm on expanded desktop and the chatheads don't stay visible.

If I open a conversation from a notification, the chathead interface pops up. But when I close it, the chatheads themselves disappear. It works once I disable expanded desktop.

That sucks.

Using the Panasonic TM-101... works great but once u upgraded to thicker case, it won't work at all. Plus, once the charger fully charged the phone, it will shut off. If the battery starts to drain, it won't charge it back.

2) Doctat.

haiz my first smart phone but gave me so much problem

Your problem should be firmware issue.
Open setting->apps->all->gallery
Under gallery clear cache & app data & reboot.
If it still doesn't working clear everything again & do a factory reset.
If everything failed just flash back stock rom.Shouldn't be that hard & doesn't void LG/Google warranty.

Thinking of building a rom with linaro optimizations and a little more customizations from aokp and pna with cm10.1 base..
*
Some of linaro optimization breaks functionality sometimes. Do take notice of that.
It's due to some gcc stuff if I'm not mistaken.

no. when you flash aokp it'll change your kernel to whatever aokp is compiled with. after flashing aokp, flash your custom kernel again.

Lots of customisation. By default stock look. I removed already. Not my preference as I don't like too much customisation.
If you like AOKP or Paranoid, you may like this too.
*
Hmm, I see. I may give it a go next time around. Just flashed PAC.

Paranoid ROM... As the name suggest, sometimes that ROM makers think too much.
It's not really suitable for those who wants use their phone as a phone. Too much tweaks IMO.

I prefer CM with own customization.

Thank you for your suggestion, got frustrated. Done what you told. Call them and demand a replacement, they will send me a new phone with a box to return the old phone.

I like this concept although I have no idea how much i spent to call the international call center

Corrent directory should be /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/
Use any one of your file manager in your phone to check this directory.Viewing files through MTP in Windows sometimes does not show some folders.
Reboot your phone & your PC should able to view most of the folders now.

Could be some random apps causing lag.Only way I can suggest to solve this issue is by trying to uninstall apps 1 by 1 according to the instillation time.

CM's pie control isn't as responsive compared to PA's pie control.
Sometimes it takes few attempts before the the navigation bar pops up.

Use your file manager and navigate to /data/media/Clockworkmod

Nope, they do not store it there. it's at /data/media/clockwork.
It's pretty fkin annoying as you can't really see it with MTP even after you transfer it to /storage/emulated/0/

CM stock like

PA shit load of customisations.

It is all up to your preference. What is better for me, doesn't necessarily be the same for you.
