QUOTE(sweetgyun @ May 6 2013, 04:55 PM) hi all. im interested to take up diving course. but which pulau should i go to? tioman? perhentian? and which dive centre? anyone can recommend? interested taking up scuba diving... are u comfortable with water or the sea?if no or unsure, go for dsd, discover scuba diving. [refer Page 1 "Discovery Scuba" for more info] if yes... proceed. there are few scuba agencies available as stated on "FAQs about Scuba Diving", Page 1 of this thread. Do some study and googling around the web... which dive center? long answer coz i cannot find shortcut yet... there r 3 ways (as i know) being certified as a diver, 1. island package, - choose an island of your (can be you or frens and you) choice - choose the beach or area that you r interested - choose the dive center ** how to choose? - ask frens for their experience - google and read thru blogs and reviews smartly and not blindly 2. local dive center eg, there are at 3-4 dive centers at klang area - visit dive center nearby - "meet the instructor" and talk to him/her - if uneasy or he/she can not project a good/confident image... NexT - find out are they attached to any island dive center or resort or where will they conduct the open water exam 3. Padi elearning https://www.padi.com/elearning-scuba-regist...ton_banner_2012 - sturdy and exam over the web As mentioned in "Open Water/Advance Open Water Certification FAQs" --> "Open Water Diver" [[Page 1]] Learning Process - Theory (Revision, DVDs, Presentation, Quizzes, Knowledge Review & Final Exam) - Confined Water (Learn & Practice Scuba Skill in Pool/Shallow Water) - Open Water Certification Trip (Practice scuba skill in deep sea with instruction provision) For Island package, you will have all the 3 modules being conducted at the island based dive center in 3-5 days. - you will be certified within 3 to 5 days if you finish and pass those theory exam and open water exam - you will be studying, answering quizzes and exam, watching CD, learning up diving skill in "confined sea water" and open water diving skill exam throughout your 3-5 days trip - so itz a very busy and compact trip but you are a certified diver within 3-5 days For local dive center, you will have the theory, exam, CD and confined water skill done at the dive center, pool and home. Then travel to an island for the open water skills exam. - you can arrange your time for the theory and pool session at your convenient time - if dive center has attached pool, you are normally allow more practices on your diving skills - you will have island and beach holiday besides the open water skill exam since theory exam is done earlier For Padi elearning, as mentioned learn and exam the theory module over the Padi elearning page. Then continue the Confine water and Open water exam through Island package or local dive shop. *** The above is solely based on my understanding and limited experience. kindly share me your otherwise understanding or experiences. |

QUOTE(munkeyflo @ May 1 2013, 02:13 PM) You can refer to the first post and some other posts here where other members have already shared how much they paid, for which dive centers and which course. Hi munkeyflo, thanks for replied my question. Im prefer either pahang or terengganu. Oh if like that better i wait for the mide. Because last wednesday i went to dive station at mid valley to enquire about this kind of things. ThanksYou can also wait for MIDE in July to get the best deals. If you want a recommendation, please state your preffered location. |

QUOTE(b5n111 @ May 8 2013, 09:45 PM) wKkaY... Congratulation I took it with Mrs wKkaY at Kon-Tiki in Krabi, and our instructor was Felicia. We did our confined dive in a random swimming pool, and the open water dives around the Phi Phi islands.Maybe can share us some details like dive center, which island and your excited n memorable moments.... My best moments were 1) seeing the reefs, 2) seeing large schools of fish... and turtles, 3) feeling myself improve with every dive. I'm happy with the very professional service we got, and I feel that the PADI OWC syllabus is well-structured with a challenging learning curve. The e-learning modules upsell PADI courses and scuba gear a loooot though. |

QUOTE(tantalus @ May 4 2013, 09:20 AM) I think they should have very big size also. like for foreigner.. unless you have a very unusually bigger body than westerner.. Erm, I guess I can fit since I try DSD before and the wetsuit provide are suit as my body size. QUOTE(EvanSoon @ May 5 2013, 12:59 AM) mask would normally fit or u could buy a cheap but fitting brand for asian like IST.. Oh, I see. I think mask is required for me because my nose is kinda small. wet suit is an extra IMO.. I wore short sleeve rash guard and shorts.. Hi guys, just want to ask is there any recommended dive shops around K.L or Klang Valley that provides PADI OWD course? because I did some research for the available dive shops within the klang valley area and kl area, and till now I'm not sure which dive center that I can choose from? Do you guys have any recommendations? Thanks. |

Because last wednesday i went to dive station at mid valley to enquire about this kind of things. Thanks Hm, I'm not familiar with pahang or Terengganu since most of us here are within Klang valley. MIDE will be in July at PWTC, details on the first page. Usually will have lots of good deals on courses, trips and also equipments. Dive station is known to be a little on the high side, there are many smaller dive centers around in Klang valley/KL area. You'll also have to check where they will be having the confine sessions, on top of which island they'll bring you too. QUOTE(wKkaY @ May 8 2013, 09:39 PM) QUOTE(wKkaY @ May 8 2013, 11:29 PM) Congrats! Welcome to the underwater world Actually kinda packed to the brim edi for the coming 24-26 may. But if you're going on your own, maybe we can meet up for some drinks there or something. We are also planning for Tenggol LOB trip end of June (not sure if full edi or not cause 8 pax only) and weekend tioman trip some other time in July or August. Some of us also planning Maldives trip next January. All the events on our Facebook page. QUOTE(danial92 @ May 9 2013, 02:12 AM) Erm, I guess I can fit since I try DSD before and the wetsuit provide are suit as my body size. Wetsuit usually no problem. Worse come to worse, just wear tshirt and board shorts. Or you can go get a rash guard, which can also be useful for any other watersports other than diving. Oh, I see. I think mask is required for me because my nose is kinda small. Thanks. We Asian mostly have smaller nose. The western brands may not fit very nicely but you can still use it, just a little harder. Try looking at IST if you're planning to get a cheap mask. The other brand that can fit Asian nose is also Tusa. Many dive centers around and almost all, if not all, provides Padi OW course. What I suggest is to take some time and speak to the various dive center and see which one that you feel is comfortable and convenient for you. Most of the divers here seem to have gotten their license from Diver Den in PJ, maybe you can check them out too. |

Thanks Dive station does their confine water at diver's den pool.. might as well go to diver's den as the price would be cheaper by 100-200 if not mistaken.. U could use that amount to treat me lunch/dinner.. |

Anyway, congrats No, we only had a day to spare between our course dive and our flight, so we went kayaking instead in the mangroves. My body is really battered now |
