Hi there Everyone,

I'm planning to sign up for OWD class this mid June by doing the theory and confine water session in KL before moving towards to the island to conduct the open water sessions. Hence, I just want to ask should I purchase the necessary dive equipment for my course such as wetsuits, mask, fins, and snorkel? If so, how much will be the budget to invest the necessary the required dive wearings.

Thanks.

Regards,
Danial

You don't really need to buy anything for the course.. they can rent it out for you everything (usually it will already be included in the price)

After you are certified, and then have some more dive experience. Then you can decide which equipment you want to buy.

Personally I don't have wetsuit, mask or fins until now (but still newbie also, just starting last year). But I know someone even bought lots of things before they even started the open water course.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

But I'm afraid the wetsuits or mask that they provide might not fit towards my body and face, because my body size is kinda huge.

I think they should have very big size also. like for foreigner.. unless you have a very unusually bigger body than westerner..

Erm, I guess I can fit since I try DSD before and the wetsuit provide are suit as my body size. biggrin.gif

mask would normally fit or u could buy a cheap but fitting brand for asian like IST..
wet suit is an extra IMO.. I wore short sleeve rash guard and shorts..

Oh, I see. I think mask is required for me because my nose is kinda small. smile.gif Thanks for the comments anyway.

Hi guys, just want to ask is there any recommended dive shops around K.L or Klang Valley that provides PADI OWD course? because I did some research for the available dive shops within the klang valley area and kl area, and till now I'm not sure which dive center that I can choose from?

Do you guys have any recommendations? Thanks.

Wetsuit usually no problem. Worse come to worse, just wear tshirt and board shorts. Or you can go get a rash guard, which can also be useful for any other watersports other than diving.
We Asian mostly have smaller nose. The western brands may not fit very nicely but you can still use it, just a little harder. Try looking at IST if you're planning to get a cheap mask. The other brand that can fit Asian nose is also Tusa.

Many dive centers around and almost all, if not all, provides Padi OW course.
What I suggest is to take some time and speak to the various dive center and see which one that you feel is comfortable and convenient for you. Most of the divers here seem to have gotten their license from Diver Den in PJ, maybe you can check them out too. smile.gif

Thanks for the tips, munkeyflo. I'll check it out soon. biggrin.gif

I'm been Google around for searching a dive center around in KL/Selangor area for signing up OWD course, but still I can't decide which dive center to select. Do you guys have any advice or recommended dive center based around KL/Selangor area that I could start my OWD course? Thanks. smile.gif

Hi guys,

I just want to share with you that I've started my OWD course with Knowledge Development, the theory sections. Well, overall I feel the excitement of how my instructor could explain the necessary theory that will encounter while diving and he did share some additional knowledge that is out of the theory knowledge, which it also motivates me for wondering how the underwater world will look like. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Can't wait to start my upcoming sessions. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Great for you!! I completed my Knowledge Development with the TV and we even mastered the Dive Table by ourselves without any guidance.
Isabelle just didn't want to spend some time with us on this.  cry.gif

Oh, actually the RDP calculations is not that hard, just some simple calculations. My instructor just demonstrated some certain calculations, do some quizzes and review the chapters.

My instructor is kinda strict also and enjoyable when it comes to confine when I first met him, whereby he just want us to make sure how to be a safe diver and at the same time relax and enjoy the fun. biggrin.gif

Hi guys,

I just did my OW confine practice last Saturday. Well, I accidentally cut myself in my right-leg while underwater, which is a just a small cut, no big deal. biggrin.gif

Well, the skills I learned were quite interesting. Mask Clearing, Buddy Air sharing, 5 point descent and ascent, Neutral Buoyancy, Giant Stride, and one of the most hardest part which I think I need to practice more is the CESA, first time trying CESA almost use up all my air in my lungs, so have to do it twice. blush.gif

Can't wait for this week MIDE, gonna spend a long time to purchase rah guard and other necessary stuffs. biggrin.gif

Hi guys,

I'll be going to Tioman for my OWD certification trip. Should I be excited or nervous as I've never been to Tioman before, and any advise that could prepare me for my certification trip?

Thanks.

*
My instructor is Christopher. He's kinda a nice and a cool guy to hang out. Sandflies, i guess had to stay on the land should be better. biggrin.gif
Well, we will be departing this Friday early in the morning, as in like 1a.m and return to KL by Sunday evening. biggrin.gif

We just came back from Salang over the weekend. Dived with Marine Monkees, friendly bunch of people. laugh.gif
Have fun, be safe and enjoy yourself! Try not to hang out too long at the beach or be prepared to be raped by sandflies.
*
Thanks for the advise, I guess I just should anticipate the underwater environment by myself while I was tioman this weekend. biggrin.gif

Hi guys, I just came back from my Tioman trip last weekend for my PADI OWD certification and open water dives. Well, overall it's a total of fun and excitement, and this is why diving is fun. We did 3 boat dives and 2 shore dives.

At first during my first shore dive I was a bit nervous due to poor visibility and my buoyancy was not that good to control, as well as my equalization. But after 2 or 3 boat dives, well I finally understood how to control my buoyancy. biggrin.gif

Well, the most adventure dive is during my third boat dive after our lunch, we went to the end area of Salang to dive, and unfortunately there's a huge current under the water. And basically we are doing drift diving, which I thought and my other dive buddies felt that the excitement of being drift by the underwater current, and also got cut by some of the corals while drifting. We almost drifted to the end of the island just before the South China Sea. biggrin.gif

I already planning my next dive trip, hopefully my budget could fully resumed back ASAP, or maybe I could join you guys for any upcoming dive trips as well. biggrin.gif

We can arrange. biggrin.gif
Most likely at shah alam aquatik there.

Wow, I never thought that Shah Alam aquatik could conduct pool session for scuba. I did fine confine at Panasonic Sports Complex centre.... biggrin.gif
