Hi there Everyone,

I'm planning to sign up for OWD class this mid June by doing the theory and confine water session in KL before moving towards to the island to conduct the open water sessions. Hence, I just want to ask should I purchase the necessary dive equipment for my course such as wetsuits, mask, fins, and snorkel? If so, how much will be the budget to invest the necessary the required dive wearings.

Thanks.

Regards,
Danial

U do not need to invest in any equipment as they will provide the required but a rash guard would be nice.
Malaysia waters r warm so think twice if u wanna buy a wetsuit.

Maybe u should wait for July for MIDE to get better promotion prices on courses n equipment.

You don't need to purchase any equipment if you are planning to take up the OW course. What you may want to consider is getting a power mask if you are short sighted. You can also wear contacts while diving so you don't have to buy anything.

Wetsuits can be difficult to wear and most divers don't really wear wetsuits when diving in Malaysia waters. As for other equipments, complete your course first and try out the various types of equipment available before you throw your money into what you want.

wetsuit will protect you from jellyfish, scratches while underwater, and also the occasional thermocline. it's not fun underwater when it's too cold. but that said, malaysia is generally warm, so most can go with just rash guard and board shorts. dont' have to buy anything first. go for the first dive trip, then you'll know what you really need after the dive.

You can refer to the first post and some other posts here where other members have already shared how much they paid, for which dive centers and which course.

You can also wait for MIDE in July to get the best deals.

If you want a recommendation, please state your preffered location.

You don't really need to buy anything for the course.. they can rent it out for you everything (usually it will already be included in the price)

After you are certified, and then have some more dive experience. Then you can decide which equipment you want to buy.

Personally I don't have wetsuit, mask or fins until now (but still newbie also, just starting last year). But I know someone even bought lots of things before they even started the open water course.
