The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) plans to launch its first fully syariah-compliant fund by January 2017 with an initial fund size of up to RM120bil. shocking.gif ohmy.gif

Those who are interested in converting their savings to full shariah compliance status can do so on a first come first serve basis, EPF deputy chief executive officer of investments Datuk Mohamad Nasir Ab Latif told reporters today.

if you income is between 3k to 6k... and you dont have life insurance . .. then you will need to pay extra to the tax if you take 8%.

But if you have life ins + epf = 6k (Max), even when you take 8%... you doesn't lose anything.

Having said that, while most of us (majority) is in the 3k to 6k range, but I'm sure some of us would have the life ins... which should be hitting the 6k max..

You pretty much summ'd it up.

Way too many people don't have life insurance. As soon as they saw the news that they would have more money every month by not needing to contribute to EPF in a compulsory manner, they throw their hands in joy and not knowing they'll end up paying more at the end. That's why I said I wonder how many kena trap.

Actually it depends, some might end up taking 11% instead. (Even through, majority of us will prefer to take 8%)

But i think 60-70% of the "majority" will fall into the trap smile.gif because with the extra, they can now spend more.

To some of these majority, any amount of extra money will tight them thru this difficult times. Haven't u heard of people who borrow a few thousands from A Long but end up paying back tens of thousand? Also for this group of people they normally dont pay tax.
Under Budget 2015, tax payers with family and income of RM4,000 per month will not have tax liability. Moreover with the self-assessment system some of us will play around with figures (or get help fr friends) to see whether 8% or 11% will benefits us, at least now we have a choice.

with epf liquidating their london property this year should still be fine...but who knows next years... now that they lost some of their future pound denominated incomes, better withdraw if possible. bank staffs that have dealing with govt depts all advise me to withdraw anything to do with govt, whether epf or tabung haji or amanah saham, they say too dangerous current situation. later got donation sweat.gif
