Well, i was there for 4D3N but with gf only... Still, it was more than enough time to see most of the attractions, although island-hopping is out of the picture... I also missed out Payar Island but covered the usual sights like Eagle Square, the Cable Car, Cenang Beach, Kuah shopping, and Underwater World...

i've spent 3 months in langkawi, AB motel is a good deal if you're going with a bunch of friends, cause the room size is quite big...but if you're looking for comfort and a more "hotel" like ambience, there's a place not too far down from AB motel called Beach Resort,i think...beside it there's a chinese restaurant, laugh.gif its a much nicer place to stay, at about rm90++ per night. Its along cenang beach as well. As for car rentals, try asking the locals there if they provided any car rental services,it can sometimes be cheaper than those rent-a-car shops. As to getting to langkawi,if you're not rushing for time...take a bus from KL to Penang or Kedah, then ferry across to Langkawi...it'll cost you less than rm40 per person. If you choose to go back the same way,ferry+bus...you MAY be able to take more alcohol+ciggs as the security at the ferry is not tight tongue.gif ...if you have a lot of money to spend,i'd strongly suggest The Four Seasons. smile.gif

If get caught just pay the tax. But depends alot on your 'budi bicara' also. Managed to get 50% discount on tax payable (with offical customs receipt, no duti kopi).

Tax computations are rm40-45 per litre (depends whether whisky, brandy, vodka.....)
rm8 excise duty
20% sales tax

There are plenty of carparks around, try getting those covered ones. Can see them if you drive further down the road after the jetty building.

First timer going to Langkawi?

Well, u better look for local agent who providing some langkawi tourney package for first timer purpose otherwise u will be bored for playing nothing in there, unless u are familiar with Langkawi. Don't spoil the good feeling while travelling cos I worked as a tour guide in langkawi b4.

If u are the leader of ur frens who go along together and u don't wan any agent provide any package tourney in Langkawi, so u need to do a lot of homework for the research on internet.

Travelling always think of how much u budget since u did not mention, I would briefly let u know what is happeining in langkawi, but I don't recommend u staying hotel but chalet in langkawi for not getting any package tourney, cos staying at hotel will cost more than u go for chalet. U may try this resort called "Mali Best". It's located at Chenang beach in langkawi, all chalets are on the beach. But I don't think u will b able to get a room cos it's bit late for booking, besides it is a travel season in December. There are quite a nnumber of chalet nearby in case of unavailability of rooms. Google internet urself...

Click me for MaliBest Resort

Renting a car of cos is always better than a cab, taking a cab will always cost u alot going to the town or having sight seeing (of cos u need a map if u are first timer visiting langkawi). For car rental, if not so many frens eg.4 pax, u may rent a Kancil for RM45 a day, driving car heading to Kuah town about 25mins from Chenang Beach.

Places to be recommended to go for first timer:
1) Snorkelling Pulua Payar
This tourney is a bit costly which cost about RM80 - RM100 for a trip, (including roudtrip ferry, lunch, snorkelling equipment, baby shark feeding...), this trip will kill half of the day... Beware of profiteer in Langkawi..

2)Cable car
3)Underwater world (new building has been built, got penguin)
4)Blank Sandbeach
5)Kuah town (shopping)
6)Eagle square
7)Explore urself

Usually the activities listed above is for 4d3nites trip which i recommend.

Buying duty-free item in Kuah town must be carefull, do survey in all the shops nearby cos different shops they selling diff price esp hard-liquor. Buying chocolate must see the expiry date...They selling expired chocolate rclxub.gif

BEWARE of PROFITEER....
