Dear sifu sifu.

I took this RES off a friend that found it wandering in her garden.. she was about to release it back into a lake or some sort so i thought i would adopt him as so happened i was looking for a tortoise / turtle myself.

Its SCL is about 5" so im assuming hes about 3-4 years old.

His shell looks like its covered in moss and i think he might have respiratory problems as sometimes when i pick him up he makes this huffing/wheezing sound.

He's got a tiny aquarium right now as i'm in the midst of getting a bigger tank for him. got some tips from wwkay to setup his basking area..

right now he is super frightened of me and tucks his head, legs and tail in whenever i come by.
i dont think he likes it when i hold him because he is always trying to struggle free..

Should i scrub his shell? is there anything wrong with him?

Thanks sifu sifu for the advice!

This thread is sure silent......

Anyway I am in the process of re-building an enclosure for my tortoise. The list I should have are;

- UV light - 1 x PT-2192 Solar Glo 125W (inclusive UVA and UVB plus Heat) & 1 x PT-2056 ET Porcelain Clamp Reflector Large

- Substrate - I will use Alfafa Hay.

- Bathing everyday or every other day.

- Food - Mainly Mazuri.

Any other suggestion in general for my setup?

45cm x 60cm for enclosure but will upgrade for a bigger size soon, at least . I really wish to set up outdoor closure but afraid people break into my housing area and kidnap my tortoise cry.gif

The species is Kleinmann's tortoise.

Hi wKkaY,

Fortunately it relatively easy to get your hand on Mazuri nowadays. Below is the list that can help you to buy Mazuri;

It is almost wiped out, even in Egypt itself. I intended to search throughout the world for a female tortoise so I can pair them up for future rebreeding.

Both pairs are slightly above a thousand each. They were not babies when I got them. My 2 leopard are 7 & 9 inches each; My 2 star are 5 & 6.5 inches each.

What about yours? biggrin.gif
