QUOTE(jumpman23 @ Jan 21 2008, 08:48 AM) anyone work as a Technical Trainer? Hi Guyshows the environment and salary scale ? n wat bout travelling? anyway, i heard that they have revised to a new allowances packages for outstation.. n its lower den before.. shucks.. I have been offered a position of senior marketing manger by Huawei for their GSM business. They want me to relocate to their HQ in Shenzhen. I am from Pakistan. Many people have warned me that the working atmosphere in Hauwei is very different and is not even close to a typical multinational company. I have also been told that in order to grow, one has to be a chinese national. Is that really the case? Also there is a concern about working hours and work load. Having worked in mutinationals all my life, I am accustomed to the usual 9 to 6 routine. Are longer working hours an official requirement at Huawei? I have been offered a 2 year contract. Is that normal? I was told that it would be permanent position but in papers it is 2 year contract. What are the implications of this fixed term contract? Finally I will appreciate if some one can tell me what is considered to be a good salary in Shenzhen. At my current position I am earning around USD60K a year in Pakistan. This is much above average. Thanks in advance. Druid |

The working environment in Huawei is scary, you are expected to work OT most of the time. OVERTIME.
They do expect you to come and work on WEEKENDS sometimes...when you are near a project deadline. a new claim policy. They had reduced oversea travel allowance, now its depending on what country you go. Money is good but you get no life. Do not expect work from 9am - 6pm in Huawei. I would say 9am to 9pm. and you have to know Mandarin/Chinese well else you gotta have some communications problem. They do offer high basic salary, but benefits wise, there are none. No specialist, no dental, some may and may not get contractual bonus. Appreciate your life if you have one, but money is what you want then go for it, but pls be prepared. If you have a family or married, you wont find yourself suitable here. |

Thanks lukelimck. Are the official working hours from 9 am to 9 pm? How do other expats cope with this? I heard there are many foreigneres working for Huawei HQ in Shenzhen.
Regarding language barrier, does all communication take place in Chinese? Thats pants, why are they offering a foreigner a job knowing he can not work there. Anyways, please tell me how far is their HQ from Shenzhen downtown. I was trying to find out what place would be best to keep my family and apparently Shekou area seems to be a good locality. Can you tell me how far that is from Huawei HQ? I have been speaking to someone called Xupei Zhong. Do you know who he is at Hauwei? Lastly can you please tell me what is a good salary for living comfortbaly in Shenghen with 2 kids.
