Yes, totally agreed with you, I hardly hear the grinding sound unless I open my windows, and it's a joy to drive in high speed, sooooo smooth and fast icon_rolleyes.gif

About the low speed jerk, it's how you control your right foot, as most Malaysian are so used to the AT, thanks to Sushis car manufacturers who basically dominate Malaysia market for the past 20-30 years, but I would say I see changes in the car market now, at least in big city like KL, PG and JB, I can see a lot more non Japanese made car on the road nowadays, give it another 5-10 years, if Japanese car continue with their "high price, low spec" strategy, their sales will definitely going the down slope tongue.gif

This Focus is a driver car, I conclude  nod.gif

I like Focus since it was intro to Msia shore. Didnt expect to be this unlucky sad.gif. Yes speeding was great but after first service i kind of loose speeding power. They will check for gear leakages so I heard.

Yes, Sylphy is a good car. As a matter of fact, my next car replacing the 4 months old Proton Preve Turbo will be either the new Sylphy or new Teana. Nissan cars(Sylphy and Teana) are excellent in comfort, quietness and smooth drive.

Do you mean the engine of the Focus vibrates when the car is stationary, and the vibration is felt in the cabin? Hmm, not too good. I have not experienced this yet, only time will tell. Your mileage at 13,000km is much higher than mine at around 3,000km.

Teana is really a comfort car, sit in it a few times rclxms.gif

ah ha, now I understand where the complaints comes in, those cars are comfort and quiet car, again it's back to what you want, if you're looking for comfort and quiet, you should have go for CVT instead, but anyway, since you're in the boat now, let's see if the SC can help you in anyway, do update us here in the forum, if it's needed we could all make some noise together to SD, give them some stress to speed up the resolution.

Good to see more discussion among owners here biggrin.gif

Where can you get such premium features with 3 years free service and 5 years warranty that even covers wiper blades, brake pads and even the battery - all this for a great price tag?
*
Correction, the battery only cover for 1 year, not 3 years. confirmed with the SA when I collect my car last Sat.

The only thing the Focus has in common with cars like the Sylphy, CT200h, Altis and Civic is the price. Other than that, the Focus is a totally different kind of machine so it's not fair to compare the NVH and comfort level.

The Focus' biggest competitor (in Europe and US) is the Golf TSi, and if you had sat in a Golf before, you'd know that the Focus is much more comfortable, quieter and drives smoother. Even the interior quality of the Focus feels better to touch. The Golf wins in terms of torque and its twin/super/turbocharged engine.

The more features/technology you owned, the more changes/possibility of function break down, this is the hidden price we all have to pay, even my ex boss's brand new BMW 3 series, went in SC more frequently in a year than my Vios in 3 years, lolx, now who said Vios is not a good car? At least it's reliable with basic function - drive able, lol.

Remember, Golf is so much more costly in the land of Malaysia. I thought Focus's competitor is Peugeot 308/408? Didn't know it's Golf, feel proud to be able to threaten this master piece, lol.

One thing the focus is really good in, is the stability, the solid driving feel compared to Japanese car.

By the way, forgot to mention my vehicle exhibits rattling sound in the steering wheel, only when going over bad or rough surfaces on the road. Anybody experienced the same? I am thinking there are too many stuff, buttons and sticks on the steering wheel that may have contributed to some loose ends. Not really a serious issue.
*
I'm having the same noise too, initially i thought it was from front suspension.

In Malaysia, people tend to compare prices to determine competition, which is why people lump the Focus together with the Altis, Civic etc.

On the global stage, the Focus and Golf have been great rivals in the hatch market for many years now, since the days of the first generation Focus.

Focus Duratec vs Golf TSi
Focus ST vs Golf GTi
Focus RS vs Golf R

I would consider the 408T/308T as competitors, but not the main ones. The Focus and the Golf are both in a class of their own when it comes to handling, engine refinement and the technology. Plus, the Peugeot brand has never been and still isn't taken seriously in most of the developed countries around the world.

The Focus was the best selling car in the world of 2012, and up until now, it still is the best selling model. If that doesn't speak for the car's brilliance, I don't know what will.

Do you know that our Ford Focus Mk3 cost RM96,400 (Titanium Non Plus) to RM 108400 (Sport Plus) from Thailand?

http://www.ford.co.th/en/cars/new-focus/sp...ions/price-list

http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/conver...From=THB&To=MYR

Our car is very reasonably prices along with the fact that Ford Thailand only provides 3 years / 60000km warranty & service.

Yes, certainly pertinent points. The unbeatable value of the Focus is one of the main reason I have gone with it other than the performance in handling and driving dynamics. The Focus seem to render the Toyota Altis, Honda Civic and Nissan Sylphy overpriced.

The overall value of the car in interior fit and finish and features, coupled by 3 years free service and 5 years warranty are something that is worth mentioning.

Yup, that's the right word, driving habits, I've learnt to drive a DCT with fiesta and carry it to my Focus, thus hardly any jerk except for exceptional scenario like jam going up hill.

If you're looking into smooth gear, CVT is the answer, my father's Altis is silky smooth too, to the point I feel it's boring to drive, lol
*
I believe your dad's Toyota Altis and the Nissan Sylphy share an almost similar smooth jerkless drive, though I suspect the latter will be even smoother due to the CVT gear(Altis is on 4-speed transmission if I'm not mistaken).

Typical Japanese = smooth, quiet, comfortable and fuss-free. Only problem is it is characterless and doesn't invoke the spirit or love of driving. Good for passengers but a bit boring or mundane for the driver. The feeling of excitement isn't there once you step into the driver's seat of a Nissan or Toyota. But stepping into the cockpit of the Focus, oh yeah. You just can't wait to start the engine and drive the vehicle.

Right now I can adapt to the very minor jerks of the Focus, but not so sure once it reaches 8,000km as some folks here seem to be experiencing some serious jerks, grinding and "tak tak" sound. I will only be able to verify myself by mid or end of next year.

So, it's a female. Haha.. Somehow I figured out ladies have very peculiar thoughts or opinions when it comes to cars. Just don't take it too seriously.

Cheers.

Yes, the Focus shares the same pricing with Sylphy Altis and Civic, and also the class is the same I believe, hence they are frequently being compared. The Lexus CT200H is more costly than the Focus I think, about RM30k-40k more expensive?

I agere the interior quality of the Focus, the fit and finish are quite impressive. All other Japanese equivalents feel pale, cheap and plasticky in comparison.

THanks for the information. So perhaps this sound from the steering wheel is common in most if not all Focus models? Fortunately the rattling sound is not akin to something like metal parts rubbing together, but rather plastic parts rubbing together. Hence, the noise is more "pleasant", though it is still noise. Not a big issue.

Yes, I too think Ford vehicles especially the Focus is in a class of its own, excluding some jerk and grinding issues plaguing some owners. Personally I don't have much interest in Peugeot vehicles, mainly because of the brand. And moreover the 408 to me look too ugly to be given consideration. The 508 is okay but at that segment I would be looking at the Nissan Teana instead.
