Vios and Focus have different throttle mapping; Vios's is more responsive whereas the Focus's is more linear, you need to apply more throttle to get the same amount of throttle response. Most Contis and Sushis are different like this.
*
maybe you're right, or maybe my Vios got some minor performance modification. I was expecting a 2.0 litre engine to response much faster than a 1.5 litre engine...that also why you hardly heard the engine "roaring" sound in a conti compared to a sushis, I'll see what I can do with the performance modification on Focus hmm.gif

No complaint about he car except for the gear. If you can accept occasionally jerking and frequent grinding sound from gear, please go ahead!

actually I like the grinding sound... wub.gif

Lol, maybe I'm weird, after turning down the windows to use my access card in the main entrance of my condo, I'll leave the window down and enjoy the grinding sound (or was it engine sound?) until I reach my car park, lolx.

I know, some people like my wife can take it but i'm very particular about the sound while I'm driving it everyday.

If the car is having a good performance and handling but come with grinding sound and jerking , I still consider it as defect me. Obviously , the dual clutch system for Focus is not smooth at all when accelerating.

I'm not a professional driver but it's totally annoying when your car is jerking and come with grinding sound. After driving Focus, I will not recommend any of my friend to buy Focus unless Focus improve or change the gear system.

You must be Ford supporter.... LOL smile.gif

Personally I think this grinding and jerking is blown out of proportion. It is definitely not a "defect" as you have implied. Otherwise the vehicle would have been recalled by Ford.

The acceleration of the Ford is certainly smooth enough for me. Even at low speeds the Focus rarely exhibits jerk. If it does, the jerk is minimal and not to the point of annoying. Hence i am surprised, and I wonder if the jerk in some models is more serious than some others, or it is due to the variance in driver's expectations. The grinding sound during acceleration is also very soft as the sound levels in the cabin is quiet. So you can hear any rattling or engine sound in the cabin.

To top it off, I think it is suffice to say one man's meat is another man's poison. Even if you don't recommend the FOcus to your friends, he/she might come to love it after a driving experience. I will definitely recommend the Focus to enthusiasts who love a more sporty or thrilling driving experience in comparison to the Japanese makes on offer.

I thought comments will be on the jerk, but rather it's the sound of the engine this time. Anyway, don't let other opinions influence you too much. Cheer up and don't be too sad.

The' defect" is very subjective to individual. I'm sure nobody would want to buy a car package with grinding sound and jerking even is minimal.

I'm just a Ford Focus driver who showing my little comments and resentment after driving for 5 months.

Hope Ford salesman or Simedarby Auto Connection staff able to feedback Ford Thailand with return solution.

Forgot to mentioned about the "Tak Tak" annoying sound too.

Mine occur normally during the first gear? How about yours?

QUOTE(lowkl @ Nov 25 2013, 11:39 AM)
To open the car door lock immediately, I find slipping in my hand into the door handle without my thumb gripping around the handle, a lot faster/better. I think the "Lock" sensor sometimes detects my thumb first, so invokes the 0.5 second delay before allowing me to open the door. Try it out to see if it helps. Also, when I walk up to the car from the back, I sometimes slip my hand into the back door's handle, just to unlock the car that sub-second faster, so that the car is already open by the time I walk the extra 3 feet to the front door. But I'm being weird....

I also had problems with the Sync; mine was that the Bluetooth Audio would not connect. Finally I read up to do a hard-reset by yanking the appropriate fuse from the internal fusebox (located under the front-passenger's leg area), waiting a couple of seconds, then pushing it back in. It worked! Now the car syncs with my phone for music playback using any app. Hands-free phone operations still work flawlessly, and no, the radio didn't reset.

FYI the fuse remover clip is in the FRONT fusebox, located in the engine compartment. Be prepared for some cursewords, as the cover is a pain to remove.
*
Hi lowkl, I am having the exact same problem with my Bluetooth Audio like you mentioned. Could you pm me with specific details on which fuse to yank? Or better still any specific links for this trouble-shooting.....Always wanted to play my fav songs from my app on the superb sound system but not able to thus far...

Thanks

Well, I apologise beforehand but that's where the inaccuracy in your comment lies in your notion that "nobody would want to buy a car package with grinding sound and jerking even if minimal". I think you are speaking for yourself or a minority who have possibly regretted in getting the Focus for these jerks and grinding sound issues.

As mentioned earlier, these issues are very minimal and only occassionally happen at low speeds. Other more receptive or non-critical owners have considered them as non-issues.

I am not sure if your vehicle is showing more serious jerks than other vehicles that had caused much resentment on your part. If it is, then I hope Sime Darby would fix the problem for you soon. If not, then I suppose the jerks and grinding sound are something that is inherent in the Focus, something that cannot go away. Even worldwide reviews had mentioned about these.

If you want a vehicle with smooth acceleration, I would recommend the Nissan Sylphy, my previous car before I changed to the Ford Focus. The acceleration is silky smooth like butter, no jerks even for a tiny bit. The CVT gear is very smooth and refined unlike some inferior CVTs such as the one incorporated in the Proton Preve Turbo.

For me, I don't find the minor jerk an issue. It is very minor and does not occur everytime, even in low speed stop-go-stop-go situtations ie. traffic jam situations. The minor jerks will only happen during 1st to 2nd gear upshift, or 2nd to 1st gear downshift. If one is able to control the footwork, being light or gentle with the pedal, then the jerks will be greatly minimised. If the driver is constantly stepping or tapping on the accelerator with force then the car will surely jerk more seriously.

I am suggesting driving habits. Do you happen to be more active in your footwork?

As for the grinding sound, can't say I have experienced it a lot. In a span of 3 months I think I have only heard it once during uphill. Other than that, nil.

"Tak tak" sound - nothing. Is it from the suspension?

By the way, forgot to mention my vehicle exhibits rattling sound in the steering wheel, only when going over bad or rough surfaces on the road. Anybody experienced the same? I am thinking there are too many stuff, buttons and sticks on the steering wheel that may have contributed to some loose ends. Not really a serious issue.

Why not list up all the problem owners been having with their focus.. Eventhough it just a minor issue and put it in the first page so that future owner easily can read it
