Very innovative technology. Useful for the Focus but not very useful for the vehicles that are parked on both sides of the Focus. Some nasty folks may leave some scratch marks on the Focus if they are having difficulty getting into their vehicles due to the tight space.

have you guys encounter this problem before?

once i turn power off, the display lcd and speedometer remain lit up. It only switch off once i lock the car

i might be wrong but i think the display is draining the battery. my car is barely 2mths old and i have to jump start it twice already. 1st time is during installation of tinting, the car engine is off but the doors remain open during installation and when i tried to leave after installation, the engine couldn't start. 2nd time was when i left car at car porch without locking the doors, the next morning the engine couldnt start.

dont know whether is a battery problem or ignition problem

don't think is battery problem as I did tried to jump start but fail. Now car couldn't start at all. Barely 2 months n done 2000km. Called auto connexion and tow truck service is only free if u bought insurance with them. Luckily my insurer do provide free towing service. Called puchong service center at 5pm that I'll be sending my car over late and they actually arrange a staff to wait for me till 630pm. Hopefully tomorrow will receive a call saying it is just a minor problem...

Would appreciate if you can update this thread once you have managed to get the matter resolved on the cause of the problem. Also, it would be interesting to hear about your first time experience with Sime Darby's service. Hopefully you will get your vehicle back in no time.

Bro,
I bought my focus few days after launching on Oct 2012
On Feb 2013 my car died on me, baterry kaput, if the battery kaput, you cannot even get into the car unless using the key, and the key can only unlock the driver door, cannot free the gear, the car at P how to towed, and then after calling insurance company, the first 2 tow truck failed to towed the car,, please bear in your mind that we need tow truck with baby tire to towed the car.

After few hours at SDAC they could not identify the problem, the only solution is to change the battery.
What i learn from focus fanatic is that everytime we off the engine YES some display and button still ON, but there is some bug if after you LOCK your car the light at dashboard still on,, please observe your car, everytime after you lock your car please 'intai' inside to ensure all the light is off,, if some light still ON please restart your car, ON all light, ON your radio, if your USB drive still plug in unplug it

After you lock your car the only light that is still ON is the blinking PATS on odometer every 3 secs and orange light at dashboard with Key picture on it but this one will only stay for few minutes

Users can change the battery ourselves isn't it? Or we need to get the vehicle to be towed to the service centre in the event the battery died? If the battery died and the car needs to be towed to the SC, that would be pretty inconvenient wouldn't it?

Also, is the battery change FOC? What about brake pads and wipers?

Okay thanks. I will check with my service advisor next week on the battery issue. I find it peculiar to tow the vehicle to the service centre just to change the battery. If it's something that is faulty then it is comprehensible(like in the forummer's case earlier whereby the car failed to start when it's only 2 months old).

Got my car back this morning. Reason given was battery problem. They recharge it and everything is back to normal. Should it happen again, they will replace the battery. I find it weird, if it is battery problem I think jump start should solve the issue. Yes, what you said, I experienced it too. If battery died, remote unlock fail, and key can only open the driver side. I was frustrated as I can't free the gear and service center kept chasing me cause is already passed their working hours. Tow truck fella was about to ask his colleague to send the baby tire and I was trying all sorts of methods to power on. Randomly, I remove the plastic cover by the steering wheel and chuck the key in. Luckily it works and I manage to shift to N. To fellow focus owner, should your car died on you and you can't shift the gear to N make sure you inform the tow truck to bring baby tire....

My odometer doesn't show the battery warning sign. I just assumed it was battery problem. My concern is, if we ask mechanic to change the battery and if it still fail then we will incurred additional expenses and another concern is will Ford use that excuse to void the warranty....

My SA has mentioned about the "special slot" near the steering wheel earlier. Should the keyless remote runs out of battery, the "special slot" can be used to start the engine of the vehicle by removing the plastic cover near the steering wheel and inserting the key inside the slot, as what you have suggested above. I guess the same applies when the car battery is dead, but only to change the gear to N instead of restarting the engine of the car.

Since the service centres are closed on Sundays, if the vehicle cannot start on Saturday evening, then have to wait until Monday morning only can get the car to the service centre, additional waiting period. If the car is stuck somewhere on the road, or worse still in another state outside Klang Valley, it could be inconvenient.

Yes, it can be a problem though I will check with the SA about this later. Not too sure whether the battery in the Focus is maintenance-free or the flooded type.

Does anybody know if we can shift gear "D" to "S" while the vehicle is still moving? Does the vehicle need to stop completely with the brakes applied before we can switch D to S?

Hi, I am new to this forum and have been following this thread for some time to get to know the ins and outs of owning a Ford Focus. I have booked the Focus Sport+ and will be getting the car soon. I have the following questions that I hope someone will be able to assist:

1. I found out that the original battery for the Focus is not Maintenance Free (MF) version. I contacted my SA to ask if I can change to the MF type but was told that this is not possible as the original battery is under warranty. Is there any current owner who has changed to MF battery for their Focus and if the new MF battery is covered under the warranty?

2. I am trading in my old car for the Focus via the Ford dealer. The Ford dealer engaged their second hand car dealer to buy my old car and has completed the inspection and quoted a resonable trade in price. My query is on the trade in process. I was told that when I exchanged my old car with the new Focus, the second hand car dealer will not do the transfer of ownership until he found a new buyer for my old car. What they will do is to cancel my roadtax and JPJ will issue a receipt as proof. I am concern that since my old car is still under my name until it is sold by the dealer, I am still be liable if something happen to the old car. Is this common practice when we trade in an old car with a new one?

I would appreciate any advice from members of this forum. Thank you.

There is document ie. piece of paper whereby you and the 2nd hand car dealer will acknowledge that you have surrendered your old car to him. That will do it, even though the ownership has not been transfered yet.

Anyone can confirm about the battery type? If not MF, meaning need to topup the battery water.. I dont think the design of ford focus make it easy to access the battery.. You even need to pull out the battery to refill..
