got my car last week, still learning the angle of driving a big car? lol coming from an old smaller car, driving in tight corner is a challenge and also side parking tongue.gif

a few questions... is that, the day after collect my car, I noticed that the mileage is around 200++ km shouldn't this be zero? I remember the SA told me that he has to get the car for me from Sungai Petani to Penang... I suspect they gave me a test drive unit...

another questions...that's about the rims... I was told not to change the rims because it is made in Japan and better quality, is there such a thing? tempted to change to a better looking 17" rim and quite worry about voiding the warranty and will it also affect the ABS and other safety features? thanks alot for listening... new user asking lots of questions... smile.gif

overall I am satisfied with the performance... first try going up hill today, ... I tried the paya terubong hill road to bayan lepas and it was quite smooth, but I was alone driving...

Actually no harm changing yr rim to larger one. But yr fc may increase by using other non standard rim or tyre.
Better keeping the stock rim at home after change to new rim, any issue of warranty later you can revert to the stock one before sending to sc.

Serena Hybrid Owners Alert....

I bought my car 3 months ago and love using it... especially for family outings.

Yesterday whilst getting ready to go out, my wife closed the rear boot quite hard and less than a minute later we heard a glass cracking sound.

The rear glass panel on the top section of the boot had cracked on the left and right side... from the top to the bottom.... a clean linear crack.

DO NOT SLAM THE REAR BOOT DOOR!!!

My wife is a petite girl but the downward momentum when closing the door can be strong and results (in my opinion) in the glass panel cracking.

I've attached photos of the tragedy.Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image

How could that happened? I have tried to close the rear door really hard in the Nissan Showroom, but nothing happen also. I really slammed the door real hard even the people in the showroom looked at my way thinking what has happened, but the glass still in one piece. Is it got something hard object blocking the door close properly causing this shattering glass?

Contacted Nissan head office in Jln. Ipoh, was told that i don't have glass insurance coverage and that the whole thing would costs around RM 2200

I feel it should be covered under warranty... it's a manufacturing fault that the glass can break by closing the rear boot.

Insurance shouldn't be the issue, the question should be why it happened when under normal usage.

The car had nothing in the back at the time, i am only guessing that the firm closing of the boot led to the crack because it happened about 30 seconds after my wife closed it.

We heard a "pop" sound, quite loud from the back and found the cracked glass.

The car was stationary, my wife closed the boot and was on the side buckling my two kids into the child seats and i was in the drivers seat about to start the engine when it just suddenly happened.

shakehead.gif Oh dear. Did the vents inside cause a vacuum inside when all doors are closed?

Most of the glass we have nowadays are the type called tempered glass made by the process of repetitive heating and cooling.
Therefore the will be some internal stress build in the glass its self and may shattered easily at certain weak point such as those sharpe edges.
The pattern of cracks shown is very obvious vertically patern at both edges. I believe this could be some kind of manufacturing defects of the material or the installation problem. Go ahead to fight for the compensation from TCM telling them about the facts.

Would tinting with safety film help? I doubt TCM will entertain any manufacturing defect, etc (its become a NORM for company in Msia to do just that).

Been asking around the different car dealers and most of them said the same thing, usually starts at a certain weak point especially at the edge.

Tchong wants rm 2200 for replacement, i've found a replacement from China for Rm 450. Still mulling over the pros and cons.

Did you make complain over TCM website? At least the case is recorded. Any future similar repetitive cases reported, then TCM should explain the root cause.

Why dont you try to do as suggested by sianglee. He can be considered as the most knowleageable person about mpv in lowyat forum. He did a thorough research before buying this serena.

There is no harm of making claims or complaints to TCM about the issue of self breaking glass. At least there is record as I mentioned earlier. This is some basic common sense regarding consumers's rights ..

Thanks guys for all your suggestions, the problem is fixed for RM 450. Not including re-tint.

Got no where with TChong. Didn't have glass cover and warranty doesn't include glass.

Will let you know if anything else develops.

Guys...anyone of you has managed to find any add-on accessories for Nissan Serena? Such as Rider body kit or Impulse Bodykit?
