It was discovered by Coltect that removing IPv6 compatibility and including OpenVPN, that considerable flash RAM space was freed.

Some words of wisdom from Diaryman.

QUOTE
The 4Meg routers with IPv6 have reached the end of the line for features. No more free memory to work with.

So they can stay frozen and I'll have one set of config files for them.

The 4Meg routers without IPv6 can then continue to be developed along with 8Meg routers with IPv6. This would be another set of config files.

Since the build is all automated it won't make any more work after I get it set up.

So we'd have firmware for the 4Meg routers with and without IPv6 and for 8Meg routers with it.

Not too bad and it allows more development on the 4Meg routers with the extra memory. Maybe Band Selection and SMS can be included.

So we now have a development path that should suit everyone.

Excellent idea. thumbup.gif

It would be Great if incoming sms is flashed across our device/s that are LAN connected but not WiFi connected cause usually the Admin(simcard owner) only have access to LAN connection whereas WiFi users could be Guest/s. We would not want Guest users to read our private messages rite. icon_idea.gif

In your opinion among the ROOter-able routers, which one is considered to have the biggest Flash Memory with the Highest CPU speed. It would be Fantastic for users to knoe them so that when they shop for new routers, they can purchase the "most powerful" one if their pocket permits.

Thanks.

Interesting thought. nod.gif

What about if SMS access was password protected?

There is a basic list and details of CPU speed and flash RAM of the basic ROOtable routers on the website.

http://ofmodemsandmen.com/supported.html

The other very important factor is the USB power available to power the modem.

Noted, it seems that TP-Link WDR4900 have the best bang for the bucks and future proof too.

The other very important factor is the USB power available to power the modem.

Powered USB hub to the rescue , possible ? Yeah, it would be just Perfect if that powered USB Hub can support multiple usb modems to load balance [ different telcos simcards ] like what those guys at Mikrotik are playing now. Maybe we need a bigger flash memory to accommodate the bigger file  sweat.gif

latest huntsman still have bugs,... while stock firmware able to surpass 25Mbps limit for zte mf820D modem,..

still many user out there is prefer stock firmware,.. user friendly..

actually stock firmware does come with a lot of goodie too if u pay attention,..

modem compatibility wise stock firmware is much flexible to recognize more usb modem than openwrt/openwrt(Rooter )

When you were on the early OpenWRT and i was on stock FW ( MR3420 ) , i too think this way.

But once i started using OpenWRT AA, i just fell "head over heels" on this FW, and since the introduction of ROOter ~ I never looked back ~ Bugs is common and is part and parcel of the package.

Now ROOter is getting more and more exiting drool.gif drool.gif

OpenVPN support like Sabai OS , SMS receivable and much more are in the pipeline, we name it, Dairyman will try to accomplish it ..... I want mutiple usb modem support so that i can combine a Maxis (LTE)+ Celcom (LTE) + Umobile (LTE) simcard to blaze the Net brows.gif

Hi,

I and other Whirlpool participants have done many tests with an MF821 4G modem (and other fast modems) with TP-Link routers with TP-Link firmware. I've not topped 25Mpbs.

Once the router has ROOter firmware, speeds greater than 25Mbps are readily obtained.

Details here in a long thread, of my investigations into a MR3420 V2 with a number of modems. It is pretty conclusive that the standard TP-Link will not go faster than 25Mbps. I have not received any response from TP-link to indicate that they support fast modem protocols.

What does your system log show about the modem connection?

The Qualcom based MF821 would require QMI protocol, rather than PPP to work at greater than 25Mbps.

Note: Speedtest.net is not terribly reliable and any test is best done on a lightly loaded tower at very low traffic times.

Cheers

But not very good at the latest model modems and not at fast speeds.

There are very few modems that the ROOter does not support.

Anyway they are my opinions. smile.gif

The ROOter itself is password protected so that should be sufficient?

Meaning only the person who have access to the admin page will ONLY be able to read the SMS and not others ?

If your answer is YES, that would be sufficient. Pls bring it on.
