not sure if extending warranty for your "import" set solve the local warranty problem?
*
As I understand from a re-seller, for Y series, Lenovo Malaysia only sell extended warranty upon purchase of local set tongue.gif i.e. buyer cannot even choose to extend the 1 year international warranty of the grey import unit sweat.gif

nothing issued with my customer that buy US set at this moment so far for claim any warranty...even their warranty can update in lenovo website just using normal shop receipt....In lenovo website they never mention receipt/invoice must totally 100% from lenovo only? they just ask for proof of purchase and dealer stamp only....
the problem for some customer dont get any support or less support...bcoz they dont bring any receipt/invoice as proof of purchase...even normal shop invoice not provide...u think they care where u buy it? u want buy from China, Singapore or what that is no problem with them...the problem if u want get support just bring invoice...bcoz their procedure like that....if not confirm get less support!
this for Lenovo Ideapad series...i think for all model ideapad...
pls dont compare with toshiba,hp, dell etc...

thats my 2 cents!
go ask my buyer if u not trust me...
oh izzit i care u trust me or not? hahaha

i doubt you yourself never deal with lenovo malaysia warranty department right ? yawn.gif for TS case, he bring the invoice from his reseller but yet Lenovo Malaysia ask him the "real invoice" which is the invoice that issue from lenovo US distributor to the reseller.

From what i see, US set / grey import set seller never will help customer , they only will ask customer deal the warranty with Lenovo Malaysia, when Lenovo Malaysia need contact the seller, seller never dare to show face to meet the warranty claim person...

my friend bought a Y400 from Authorize shop in Digital Mall, the unit got problem within 7 days, the shop allow my friend refund and claim new unit from Lenovo Malaysia. But how about TS ? just because of "cheap " price, even the unit got problem , he can not got all new unit doh.gif

You are wrong as reported by TS since Lenovo ask for receipt from Lenovo and not from shop for major warranty claims on US imported set. Pity TS bought the imported set and end with warranty issues.

QUOTE(skan1 @ Jan 9 2013, 09:23 PM)
your wrong on this part.

IBM Service Center wants the original Lenovo receipt , not from shop.

I double asked them. That is what they told me.

As for the service center, it was the one at KPMG.

Yes you are right, I bought it coz it was cheap. It is also my first time I purchased a laptop. I wouldn't have thought about the possibilities of this situation happening ( laptop breakdown, crappy services, no official receipt and etc). A first for everything right.

Claim without warranty shoukd not be an issue because they can always resort to the manufacturing date. In Lenovo Malaysia playinh with their customer?

Go to Lenovo website, check out its terms and condition for claiming International Warranty support, pay attention to ASEAN section.
Lenovo Malaysia just "throwing the rule book" at the grey imports re-sellers sweat.gif and acting within its terms and conditions tongue.gif

Thanks for the reply bro. Actually I saw your post.
It is just that from my perspective as the end user, how do I know it is a grey one if theseller priced it around the price of the local one? Because in that case I wouldn't notice the different. Please advice.

This is another scenario how they "throwing the rule book" at the grey imported laptop user reported in their facebook. sweat.gif
The warranty are governed by both local Lenovo policy and Lenovo International T & C. laugh.gif
Its best to avoid those grey imported laptop to save you all the hassle & headache during warranty claims. biggrin.gif

Lenovo Malaysia replied to grey imported laptop user in their facebook:
"Hi Ms Radhika, sorry for the delay. I have intended to contact you as soon I was able to speak to the reseller who sold you the U300 but was unable to since their number was not reachable, however, in the process, dialled your brother's number which was written in the purchase invoice (thinking it could be the salesman's contact number) and I have spoken to him with regards to the management disposition on this case.

Lenovo management has decided that we will not be able to support your request for a replacement or refund because this machine is a US based machine. The dealer who sold you the unit is not an authorized Lenovo reseller. I have tried to contact the reseller but to no avail, in order to advise them the situation and for them to liase with you with regards to the solution that they may be able to offer you. I suggest that you walk in to the reseller's office if you also fail to reach them via telephone and bring up this issue to them.

Although Lenovo is an international company, the services that we render is subjected to the company's local policy and at the same time governed by Lenovo International Term & Condition.

For your existing U300 which are still at our service center, we will finish up the repair but there won't be any more warranty repair should any issue surfaces after this. "

It is more of an abuse of International Warranty actually, come to think of it. So they enforce their T&C.

It look like local lenovo marketing strategy to protect their local market share against competition from the grey imported set with much better price/ performance and more variants. laugh.gif
So, they "twist" the international warranty to shred off the competition from grey imported resellers sweat.gif , so that they can monopoly the market with relatively "overprice" laptop and better margin. laugh.gif
Its not a good business ethics in the open market and bad to consumers. shakehead.gif

Exactly what I have in mind.
To me, grey or not, it was still bought legally from Lonovo and not some stolen item thus entitle to the international warranty.
