I might be wrong on this one but if your main concern is bitstreaming Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA, the ATI 5 series cards are a safer bet.
Hmm... I did a simple Google for u. Looks like the Nvidia GTX 260 is out of the question.
Edit : Wait, the article at anandtech is OLD. Almost 2 year old. Are we looking at the same card here? If it is, why buy a 2 year old graphics card?

I'm also seaching right now before i make decision, actually my pc is gaming rig 3k,so i get good offer for gtx 260 for rm500(2 month old),new price about rm650 and it perform very good for games.so i just use my pc as htpc for lag 1080p mkv and bmdv.wdtv 1 is good for most mkv and i'll upgrade media player later maybe forth generation, hopefully that time media player is cheaper and can play all mkvs, bmdv & bdiso without problem not like now.If gtx 260 can't support true hd,dts hd. i'll buy new ati 5610/5750 for my games & some mkv, bmdv

confirm gtx260 cannot support TrueHD/DTS-HD. go ahead with 5670/5750. unless you're really nvidia fanboy, maybe wait for Fermi, still not sure about the Fermi's spec. anyhow, IMHO: 1 ATI 5xxx series are far better than 1 NVIDIA+HDAV1.3.

Since my receiver doesn't support HDMI, would you recommend
HTPC --> TV  via hdmi
Then sound via optical output of TV via fibre optic to receiver?

Anyone using plasma instead of LCD for HTPC setup?
*
My AVR also does not hv HDMI, I use SPDIF (optical) to AVR and HDMI to my Plasma TV... Plasma/LCD..same same la.. just depends on the connections and the specs..

Just buy an TOSLINK (optical cable) for the digital sound connection to the AVR..

What I understand is that nVidia do not do sound and relies on the on-board soundcard where you plug the on-board SPDIF cable into the nvidia graphic card and it will multiplex ( audio & video ) it out via HDMI..

I almost want to get the GTX260 until I heard it faces lots of issues like stock shortages, much more power hungry and heat issues...

End up with a HD 5770 card for future technology protection...

I think TOSLINK cannot support DTS-HD/TrueHD. Must use HDMI to bitstream that HD audio.

When probably ATI HD 5450 will arrived in malaysia? Can't wait anymore.. biggrin.gif

Agreed.. From cost perspective, HDAV1.3 only will cost u around rm600. You can get better 5 series ATI card with that price. laugh.gif
Right now, no nvidia card can bitstream DTS-HD/TrueHD. cry.gif

Limitation of bandwidth is one reason. Other reason, its cannot support 24 bit audio (DTS-HD/TrueHD).

Hahaha, my PC use small form factor casing. So have to get low profile GC. nod.gif
I think only HD5450 in 5 series ATI card that come with half height size.

If you read review and forum, 5670 is the best card for HTPC.
You might need to consider sacrificing your ideal low profile set up.
Or look for a low profile 5670 to fit in.

Does anyone know how to playback BDMV file system with menu? The only way I know now is converting them to ISO and mounting them with virtual clone drive and playing it via powerdvd. But recently most of the BDMV that I converted will not playback on powerdvd. Need to have a solution for this.

Note: I want to playback full menu and not just the m2ts file

HD5570 is also in my list. But still not arrived in malaysia yet. sad.gif
But I think HD5450 is cheaper but less performance than HD5570. If price not so much different, i will go for HD5570. biggrin.gif
