400W true power (not too sure)
QUOTE(howjimmy @ Feb 12 2009, 06:06 AM)
what do u think?
Below are considered 400W+ PSUs under the "affordable" list...

- Silverstone Strider ST40F 400W
- Gigabyte SuperB 460W (real power 400W)
- CoolerMaster Extreme Power Plus 460W (real power 420W)
- AcBel E2 Power 470W (real power 420W)

haha i hate to be ignorant... but i cant really understand all that sad.gif
it says that it supports socket 775 and the intel e7400 is socket 775.. so by my understanding, it should be alright... right?

On second thoughts, do you have your manual with you? You could have a look through it. I am sure it mentions something about the CPU support.

yeah it seems like everything isnt supported! u think it would be a better idea to get a new mobo and a lower end processor that is supported? my budget would be around 400-500.

since lex mentioned a gigabyte g31 mobo is sufficient i think that i might stick with that and leave some room for upgrading in the future..

Yeah, what lex said is right. The G31 would support more CPUs than the current 945G.

This is the correct list: MSI 945GM3-F CPU Support List. As I've mentioned before, this board supports 65nm dual cores mostly. Re-quote from here.. wink.gif
QUOTE(lex @ Feb 12 2009, 05:03 AM)
It can run those provided you change the processor... suggest at least a Core 2 Duo E6600 and higher (the faster the better). Since it doesn't have hardware decode acceleration, will rely mostly on processor speed for decoding thus the faster the processor the better. wink.gif The problem is finding a fast 65nm processor nowadays, usually you would have to look around in the garage sales... hmm.gif

Whats your total budget, by the way? hmm.gif

so it does support it? thank god or rather lex, i was wondering where i was going to pull that extra cash from! tongue.gif
so im going to upgrade the processor to the e4700/e5300 and get a hdd and psu, what do u guys think?
i've got 2 PATA 160gb hdds and 1 250gb sata hdd, because im using a mid tower now, if i add on another hdd would it affect the electrical flow of the computer if i were to not buy a psu?

Nopes, your current MSI 945GM3 motherboard does not support 45nm processors such as the E5300 nor E7400. wink.gif

The 65nm E4700 is supported on your current motherboard. smile.gif

But I don't think you can find the E4700 in retail anymore nowadays, its EOL'ed. hmm.gif

So many HDDs? sweat.gif I would suggest a true power PSU of 400W and preferably higher. nod.gif
