[attachmentid=795893]

Yeap got tis casing for and additional e-view Power supply (350watts ) for RM290.00

installed the MSI 7551 ( KA790 chipset ) board. it plays very good quality MKV's and vob's with the slightest jerk,

you right cant install full height and heavy duty boards, who needs it anyway,

hi im thinking of creating my own htpc, im torn in between reusing my parts from my current pc to convert it into a htpc or whether to sell off the whole thing and buy all the parts from scratch, my parts are

MSI 945GM3
Intel E2160
Winfast PX7600GS
2GB RAM
Trendsonic T-450ATX powersupply

i'll mostly be using it for BTing and watching HD movies, although i might be using it to play some games, although this isnt really a priority because im on a budget.

Another thing is, my transfer speed is really slow, like when im transferring documents/music to my thumb drive... is this because of the power supply or something reason? im using usb 2.0.

So what do u guys think? i went over to a computer shop near my place and they were like "ah! change everything!" their advice wasnt very credible tongue.gif

I can't comment much on the specs. But as for the pendrive, what brand and model are you using?

ur specs are fine actually...although im not too sure how well the processor handles 1080p movies...

id say change mobo to a G31 mobo and change processor to a minimum E5200. if u can afford to go higher then by all means do it.

i use an E5200 and playing 1080p movies with MPC-HC CPU usage is around 70-80% but around 40% with BSPlayer.

thats actually quite a good combination mADmAN, im thinking of getting the Gigabyte G31M-S2L, what do u think?
also, i was reading hte forum and im a little confused, should i get a pure video nvida card for watching hd movies? or is my processor enough for watching them?
Its not only the pen drive that has slow transfer speeds, even when i sync my ipod or external hard drive, it takes much longer as compared to when im transferring stuff using my laptop... not too sure what the problem is there.

Should get Intel G45 chipset based mobo that can hardware decode VC-1 & H.264... thumbup.gif

Look for these 2:

Asus P5Q-EM

Gigabyte GA-EG45M

If u not mean to be a gamer, the G45 already can offload CPU and decode HD-DVD or Blu-ray with its hardware decoder..Pls take note its brother G43 cant do hardware decode 100%.

MKV playback does not work with GPU acceleration.. period!  rolleyes.gif  I need at least a E6600 (with slight overclock) and X2 5400+ to get it running properly and (almost) very smoothly. Whatever settings you've mentioned, it comes back to the processor again. Video lag is a very good indicator (sound comes first, not in sync with picture).. And re-encoding the video to MP4, WMV and AVI just to use GPU accelerated players is not something I would like to waste a lot of time with.  wink.gif

I think there already GPU acceleration available on MKV as there's setting for it..
I'm not sure how it gonna be done, till no time to play around that..

Here's setting on PURECODEC PLAYER:

I checked out both the motherboards u suggested accs_centre, but both of them are over RM 400... which, sadly, exceeds my budget... generally all the G45 chipset based mobo's are really expensive, is there any other alternative?
the gigabyte motherboard seems worth it though, these are the components that im thinking of making my htpc with

Intel E7300 - RM 400 (all IT hypermarket)
Gigabyte GA-EG45M - RM 470 (looking for a cheaper alternative)
500gb HDD
2gb DDR 667

how about the PSU? is there any type that i should look at? because i'll be leaving my computer on 24/7 and im planning on getting maybe two 1TB HDDs for BTing biggrin.gif

Added on February 12, 2009, 3:40 amOn a side topic, im using a MSI 945GM3 motherboard now, do you think that it is capable of running HD and Bluray movies? or would you guys here recommend that i get a new mobo?

Cheaper alternative: GigaByte GA-73PVM-S2H brows.gif Other alternative, get a cheap G31 chipset motherboard and install a cheap HDMI ready card. tongue.gif Anyway why worry about the GPU acceleration part? The processor is already fast enough to do it in software. nod.gif

Get a good branded one, definitely not cap ayam ones. I'm currently using Delta and AcBel for 24/7... previously was Enlight (HPC OEM). wink.gif

It can run those provided you change the processor... suggest at least a Core 2 Duo E6600 and higher (the faster the better). Since it doesn't have hardware decode acceleration, will rely mostly on processor speed for decoding thus the faster the processor the better. wink.gif The problem is finding a fast 65nm processor nowadays, usually you would have to look around in the garage sales... hmm.gif

sounds like good advice, was thinking for going for the g31 mobo and adding a graphics card, on top of grabbing the E5300... any suggestions on what gpu i should get? i was looking through and i saw the geforce 8600gt, i was thinking of that one because it has the purevideo technology
How many watts do you think i should go for? 550w?

Make sure the graphics card has HDMI, or otherwise get a DVI to HDMI adapter. Even the lowly 8400GS also has PureVideo. wink.gif

By the way, the GigaByte GA-73PVM-S2H is around RM295 to RM340 and comes with HDMI already but its not an easy board to find. hmm.gif

Looking at the specifications, a true power 300W to 400W would be suffcient, since most of the hardware are low power. You'll only need a 550W for a gaming machine with more powerful graphics cards such as the GTX260+, GTX280 and HD4870. icon_rolleyes.gif

yeah tried finding it but to no avail, btw, does my MSI mobo support the E7400? because it says all socket 775 processors are supported...
i think i'll just reuse my current pc and swap it over, im going over to lowyat later and i was thinking of buying

1TB green power WD (350)
400W true power (not too sure)
E7400 or E5300 (not to sure whether my mobo supports it)

what do u think?

thank god ur online at this hour for help! tongue.gif

it says that it supports socket 775 and the intel e7400 is socket 775.. so by my understanding, it should be alright... right?

Have a look at the link. But I have my doubts.
