Hi, I am new to this forum,

I too,.... am wondering....on a quest, as to go for a simple Multimedia player like Divico, WD HD or HTPC.

1) can a normal PC be loaded with the HTPC software, if can what
software and version

2) which is better Multimedia player or HTPC in terms of simplicity

- Video to LCD(which will be better)
- up-conversion from normal DVD to 1080i/p
- audio quality when routed to a HD-DTS amplifier
- ease of use-- in terms of just switch ON, select and PLAY
- browsing and selecting ot songs, movies, --- which is faster, and
lagging or delay when selecting and play

- in terms of support and future upgrade

3) for a starter from which is the recommended buy????

4) most of all, for users that selected HTPC, or migrate from MediaPlayers
to HTPC please also elaborate why,why & WHY

I hope this request will benefit all that is half decided which to buy, as
SORRY TO SAY, we learn from past users experiences and setbacks.

thank you very much,

rgds

HEHE...... my acer notebook only support 2GBMax, will be very slow on Vista, have tested out oledi.

anyway, what the difference with XP and XP MCE, mean to say the outlook is different, when you boot up you get a multimedia format like we see in AV fair JW Marriot

thanks

heard from fren, that HDMI carries Picture and Sound (maybe HT-DTS )
FOR THIS CASE, altertanatively, is to get the HDMI to the LCD and enroute the 7.1 channel to the AV amp:)smile.gif

dont know whether its true or not,

HDMI = DVI (video only) + coaxial or optical or 6.1/7.1

Happy CNY to all forumers

anyone knows how to configure, 2 different screens for MPC-HT

ie. 1 screen for Normal Computer VGA another for LCD, right now i'm, using ( clone mode ) under the Display setting for Vista Home Premium and 790 chipset 3300 ATI Radeon.

when i configure screen 1 for VGA and 2 for LCD ( The screen 2 on the LCD just display the Blank Vista Wall Paper (no icons), i cant (maybe dont know) hoe to channel the Video to it for viewing.

Thanks

yeap ....... Vista MCE (Home premium ) is more superior to XP MCE 2005

the GUI is more detail and expressive, forget about XP MCE 2006 just an ordinary XP afterall w/o the MCE loader screen

just assembled a HTPC
KA790GX chipset
AMD quad Core 9550 CPU
2gb DDR 2 PC800 Ram ( just ordered another 2GB ram ) hehe!!!
c/w build in ATI Radeon 3300 chipset with Hybrid crossFire X
HDD hmm...!!! 20 and 30GB IDE HDD ( poor guy just a mouse in a church House) sharing the sata 400GB with my Divico
Liteon 20X Lightscribe DVD burner
e-view casing, Logitech EX 100 wireless kb/mouse set

looks like the HTPC ATI really performs well, plays mkv files jerk free unlike the divico 4000 with noticeable jerk trails even on VOB,AVi (my divico cant play MKV's)

Audio wise the Divico is superb running on coaxial as compared to HTPC's built in 7.1

Divico performs a fullscreen format on my 50ins LCD unlike the HTPC ATI even on whatever modes i use, its not borderless (hmm... i like this word)

any one can enlighting me on the setting to display a bordeless

How does the PQ quality compared to those standalone BDP profile 2.0?
*
well if the majority in BD Player forum says a 1k BD player PQ output = a 2-3k BD player, then i wouldnt see a quality deficiency problem on a PC based BDrom.
as no one is mentioning DVD upscaling here biggrin.gif

Go for WinXP Pro...  my MediaPortal is on XP and I don't lose any functionality.
Vista is resource hungry and your 2GB RAM may not be enough.

Make sure you use the latest drivers and codecs for everything.
*
i have a lappy centrino duo with 4GB and an AMD quad core desktop with 2gb DDR2 ram running on the same vista ultimate

both also the same not much difference on loading ( but maybe multitasking ie openning up of too many tabs will slow it down)

BUT anyway if dont like Vista... XP on 2GB very good adi for movies biggrin.gif

it's available.. depends on whether you want to pay for these features or not..

besides, you need your movie library to be in HDD or NAS server... have you started transfering/ripping them yet?
*
guess still a very very long way for me to go..... biggrin.gif

all files in HDD already

No NAS yet smile.gif

i wanna set up HTPC. What OS should I use? how to connect my HTPC to astro ah?
*
looks like someone really needs a big help..!!!

1st of all how "HTPC" you want your set to be....

is it dedicated Multimedia HTPC, normal PC,

1) Dedicate Multimedia HTPC
centralise cctv, lightings controller, plays media file, DVD, BD etc

2) Normal PC (HTPC)
play games, normal computer stuff, DVD, downloading, media files

3) Media player

i still think if you want a normal PC for HTPC, any computer shop can recommend and assemble you one, with the option of playing games or w/o games, the there goes to what casing you ne, wireless keyboard/mouse etc

i may be wrong, but its what i gather..
