do choose when u have the options. but if u do not have that many options, dont be too choosy. if that job cant fulfill ur potential, at least make sure it fulfill ur pocket for the moment.
do move on when u r offered a more preferable position. do not lay in idleness. kill time while u can..

QUOTE(goliath @ Mar 14 2006, 01:04 PM) No. It is not wise for fresh graduates to choose their jobs. Apply whatever job that states "Fresh Graduates are encourage to apply" . so fresh grads can only apply to these jobs?

QUOTE(bbear @ Mar 14 2006, 09:24 AM) The catch is it is pretty normal that Chinaman Company will not send you for Training or give you much benefits . I am not to say there are no.. but hard to Find. I have been working in 3 Chinaman Company before joining the MNC.. and it changed my POV about this.. used to think can learn more thing in Chinaman Company that do one leg kick but then.. looking around of my colleagues that is in this MNC since day one of their working life.. they gain pretty much more then what i got... not to say their salary too. I assume you are from Motorola ? Well, it really depends i guess. For myself, i would still work in a Chinaman Company. But, i won't think the MNC is the best place you should go next. Instead, most of the engineers i heard, jump from MNC to another private companies after having a few years of working experience. At least MNC offer you a better security of your future and higher starting paid salary. Every training will be paid by the company exactly. So let's say that, you have to be more focus and independent, have your target in mind if you decide to start from from Chinaman Company. This post has been edited by WinDs: Mar 14 2006, 04:25 PM

You want a job or a career? They are very different. If you know what you want and exactly what career path you want, then you should choose the job that best fit with your career path even though the pay may be less and the work hours maybe tough. Choosing the wrong job for your career is just wasting your time. If for example you're an IT graduate and your goal is to be a Java Architect specializing in the financial sector, then dont take the first .NET programming job in the education industry that comes along. You'll just be wasting your time, a few years down the road and you're still no where close to your career goal.

Sometime i feel looking for a job is depend on your luck too. My fren job turnover is quite fast also. Sometime also wonder how he can get a new job so fast. For fresh graduate don't really choose the job yet. Just apply whatever that is 'Fresh Graduate are encourage' even those stated that need 1-2 years experience you also can try. No harm of trying. Enjoy all the interviews, you'll get more experience if you have more interview.

After working for a year plus, i find that working in a smaller company was better for me because i was exposed to a lot of things. Besides being a netowrk technician dealing with cisco devices , i'm also in charge of server maintenence of the campus and had to learn up on FreeBSD and Windows Server 2003 fast. At the same time i have to deal with vendors. The pay might be small but the experience enabled me to get my ccna cert. I'll only move to another company once i've completed all my ccnp exams.
I was with an MNC before this but i hopped since i didn't like being confined to just one job function(COBOL coder) which i wasn't performing very well in.
For me , the first year is best to get a feel of the whole working environment and adjust.
Still ,if you are already set on a field , might as well pursue. My methods are more for grads who are unsure and want a feel of all aspects of IT.

I personally think that job hopping is bad for your career. You will end up one day nobody wants to hire coz they are afraid you cant work. At least a year in a comp before hopping shud be ok.

When you are given a lot of choices then yes, you may be choosy but do not be too narrow when it comes to being choosy. You need to weigh your goals/career against job/salary.
A lot of people will say that salary is important, yes it is but at one point you might get sick of the job and want to move in a totally different field which might cause you to waste your time. You have to know what you want to do and then go towards it.

But i don't really know what they want to do with their rest of their lives after entering the so-known dream company. Just focus on what u did best and move on from there.

Fresh grads arent encourage to choose jobs but you should choose a job which is your interest, or at least your field of studies. I had been choosing the job between MNC and chinaman company last time and I chosen MNC... cos the salary differences too far away... We cant live without $ right?

QUOTE(eRiCCa @ Mar 14 2006, 03:51 PM) so fresh grads can only apply to these jobs? sorry for late reply. anyway, fresh grad tend to have higher chances of getting into a company whereby they offer positions for fresh grads. however, fresh grads could also apply for those positions which require 1-2 years experience. they (the company) might look into your application if your results is good.

Fresh grads should choose their job carefully but it should not be based on the salary. They should choose the job that offers valuable experience.
Currently got lots of job for call centers jobs from fresh grads with starting pay around RM2.5 K . But what is the value of the experience gained ? Will you learn programming, administration, management or planning skills from these jobs ?
Its better to start at lower pay but gain special skills that would make you highly sought after in couple of years time

Please choice your first job carefully . Dont think of go in first then c what best suite me . People have curiosity , when u go in one company sure there are something interesting in there . U will think that why dont i have a try in here , and stop finding the job .Without realise ,When u find out all the trick, u lost you interest and u want other field . One of my senior have been working there for 7 year and this is his first job . He cant change to other job because he didnt have the enough skill for doing other thing .Soon he will going to marry and as a senior engineer he is manage to get 3000+ .He alway mention to me ,when u are young try for few company .Before u have car , u have your girl , your engament . GO out and see the world because u will never got your second chance .
I am a E&E grad , i really interested in networking and telecommunication . Unfortunate , i doent think propelly to my career and just want to start a job to earn money. When i first go for the interview , i think the job are fun and i may learn a lot of thing there .My first job is a technical support engineer for door access system . It fun for the first few month , paid 1800 + petrol +phone +car maintanance . Could go out many place , meet most of my friend . After 8 month , i found myself bore with the job . It was not challeging at all . I decide to follow my own will to involve in the networking field . Then i paid $$$, for the CCNA and CCNP class , after 4 month , lucky enough to have pass the exam and move to networking field . Pls if u have decide the path , pls let your first job to be related with your path . I wont said my first year wasted but it will be better to work in networking to start my career .
